Letting go of a shard.

Work Text:

Once, Rin asked a question to Clarith.

“Clarith?..” The blonde girl called out, “How did you and your lover meet?” she asked.

A stab to the heart, the question was as sharp as a knife. Rin, a tyrant princess who is now a fugitive, who was the cause of her beloved Michaela’s death…But she was also just a pitiful 15 years old child who was influenced by everyone to feel included.

“Ah…Her name was Micheala.” The older said, her eyes closed, remembering a comforting yet distant memory.

—---

Clarith in the past, was nothing more but a burden to everyone in the country of Elphegort. Freak, terrorist, weirdo, crybaby…Those were all of her nicknames. She was always scorned at, the look of contempt, just because she had a different hair color and eye color.

Everyone who had beautiful, forest green hair and lime eyes, while she had white hair and red eyes that made her look evil…But she was the exact opposite.

She didn’t even dare to hurt a fly, and always apologized to the people that hurt her.

“I’m so sorry for being alive.”

From now on, that sentence left frequently from her lips.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sorry.I’m sorry. I’m sor-

The pathetic Netsuma could only be cowardly and apologize. She was so kind, she even saved a beautiful green bird because it had an injury, before it eventually flew away.

And there, she knelt near the tree who was claimed by the others as a god in legends. And she muttered her biggest dream.

“Please give me a friend.”

And the tree stayed silent. And then she met the sunshine of her life; Michaela.

She met Michaela who fainted near the same tree she prayed to. Both became friends. Michaela even stood up for her against the arrogant Chelsea who wanted to torment Clarith.
She also managed to make another friend, Ayn, who was kind and good-natured.

Then life went like a blur until Ayn died. Michaela died. Every green-haired person, every person from Elphegort died.

Except her, who had a different hair color than theirs.

"The one who should’ve been dead was me, not her."

She told herself, sobbing as the guards of the Lucifenia continued their massacre.

Clarith started crying when she was startled by Rin’s silent sobs.

“What? Are you okay?” Clarith asked, worried, as she wiped the other’s tears.

“...I’m such a selfish person, Clarith.” Rin said, bursting out, tears streaming down on her face. “I ruined your life! I ruined everybody’s life! Why are you even taking care of me?”

Rin wasn’t lying. She ruined numerous people’s lives from her reign as the “Daughter of Evil,” but she was a lonely child from the start. Overshadowed by others. And when she finally managed to shine, she forgot how to shine properly. She was too used to be living at the dark that, when finally exposing such attention, she acted irrationally, childishly. Because she never knew how much her actions weight.

As Rin went to sleep, Clarith went outside, staring at the stars lighted by the beautiful moon.

Maybe she should let Michaela go.
