The Hymn of Our Bond

Summary:

"You hear whatever song your soulmate is singing AUs except one of them is a famous singer"

Work Text:

All dragons have mates, Neuvillette knows this quite well. As a dragonborn himself, he expects that he too would have one. However, he didn't realize finding his mate would take him centuries with barely any clue whatsoever.

Stories from his predecessors seem to say that he too would soon enough learn about their bond. Bonds, for each dragon, that they have with their mate are all different from one another.

So, when Neuvillette hums songs that constantly plagued his mind, he did not know those were the bond he has with his mate. Well how would he know? For the most part, every time his mate sings he's there at the front seat, watching her performance with much admiration. Nothing was out of the ordinary.

The songs he would hum were those he'd heard first-hand before, whether when she's practicing, performing or even just singing cheerily in the bathroom. Every thing clicks, nothing would give him the clue about his bond with his still unknown mate. He was always there, where ever she goes, where ever she would sing.

That is until after the fateful day. The prophecy came true but the people survived, their god sacrificed herself in front of him while wearing the face of the woman who lives to sing.

At that period of time, Neuvillette's mind was eerily quiet. Perhaps it was the ton of work he had to finish, or perhaps it was the gloominess from his own mind that was still plagued by images of the dead goddess. Her human side, leaving him alone in (their palace) Palais Mermonia.

He has the power to restrict her, stop her from leaving but he could only accept her request. He could no longer let her be confined in the hellish farce she had to undergo for five centuries. He can't. He couldn't.

Soon after, when she gets a little better, she finally meets him once again. Something warm pulses in his chest, her tone calling him like old times, like nothing ever happened.

The sun becomes bright that day after Furina's request to the Sovereign was accepted. Under the heat of the sun, Neuvillette continues his work. Soon enough he hums a song. A song... Weirdly unfamiliar to him but he could sing all the lyrics to it. The voice in his mind is none other than the voice he had been listening to all these years.

That's when it clicks. Neuvillette remembers the stories of his predecessors and how they mentioned a 'bond'. Could this perhaps be it? If this is it then...

"A vision?"

Furina takes hold of the hydro vision offering itself to her. It looks different from other Fontanians' visions. Visions are supposedly 'gifts' from Celestia. However, this vision is different. Furina couldn't put her finger to it but it was far more than a just a gift.

There was a bond she shares with it.
