Summary
The conceit of the night is simple: an exorcism of sorts, for Minthara to lay her lover on the altar and bring the knife down, as she has countless times before, but not for Lolth, not for Her glory, not for Her conquest. Minthara will know absolute dominion over Hasdrubal and stop her heart where it beats, and the only covenant guiding her hand will be the covenant which lies between the two of them.
She will also bring her back to the world of the living when she is done. Taking pleasure on an altar is a familiar vice, and the opposite of blasphemy to the Mother of Lust. Depriving Lolth of meat already butchered in Her name—if any crime is worthy of a transformation, it is that.
One night in the Underdark, Minthara brings Hasdrubal to the ruins of a temple of Lolth. Faith, she learns, can be reciprocal.
