"A pirate can overthrow a king if he or she... We aren't being sexist here. Tried hard enough" Kawaki answered, looking straight into Professor Neji's eyes. Boruto stared at his bench partner in stunned silence as the class looked astonished, some even laughing. The first mistake Kawaki made was sitting next to the professor's nephew, Boruto Uzumaki.
Boruto Uzumaki was the star student of konoha high, excellent marks, great record, the only son to the hyuga family who is supposed to take over. He has THE life. But he was lacking something. The social life of a normal teenage boy. Growing up, Boruto wasn't accepted to have normal friends, he did have two mitsuki and sarada. But unfortunately, Sarada left for an all girls school and Mitsuki left for another country.
Now he was alone. In school he couldn't make friends as his uncle neji would scare anyone from tainting the 'perfect hyuga child'. Nobody would even sit with him. So guess his surprised expression when a guy with Mohawk, gray eyes, ripped genes and black jacket just... Sat besides him on the bench.
Everyone was taken aback. Professor neji was glaring at the guy but he didn't care. Boruto felt.. Excited. But it started to fade away when the guy didn't say anything to Boruto once his uncle's eyes weren't on them. Was this guy just sitting here because he has to? Maybe a dare? Boruto felt disappointed but didn't let that sadden him that much. He guessed he won't have any friends ever.. No biggy.
That was until.
"Kawaki Kyo" Neji started glaring at the guy next to Boruto. Boruto blinked. Okay that was the guy's name. "How does a king get overthrown?" Neji asked. The answer was simple, that's what Boruto thought. By an angry mob. A king can get thrown by an angry mob.
But the answer Kawaki gave made everyone speechless. Boruto stared at Kawaki closely and quickly understood that Kawaki was probably intoxicated. Neji frowned. Boruto knew his uncle came to similar conclusions and without thinking Boruto said. "He is right."
Neji turned his head towards him, looking taken aback. Boruto felt his gut drop but he continued. "Historically.. Kings main revenue was sometimes transport. Pirates very much lutted the erm.. Goods on a ship. There have been instances of pirates cornering kingdom's into starvation in olden times which caused the civilians to migrate away and the king's reign to collapse. Pirates even came to land just to chase the people away and get their foods into their ships if things became drastic.. Not to mention the act of Mutiny" Boruto looked at Kawaki who was just staring at him. Mouth open. He kinda looked like a lost fish. Yep, certainly high. "So yeah pirates could overthrow the king if they tried hard enough"
Neji sighed but nodded before going back to teaching the class. Boruto felt his whole body relax. He then glanced at Kawaki and whispered. "You bad boy.. Owe me one"
Kawaki blinked but nodded. Boruto chuckled under his breath as everything went to a mundane normal.

Shit shit shit, yesterday for the whole last lecture kawaki was high. Usually kawaki never really went to classrooms when he smokes weed during school hours but for some unknown reason he did. Thankfully he has a pretty good recollection of what he does while being high so Kawaki knew.
He owes the golden boy of the school something because the guy saved his ass from his uncle. Kawaki honestly didn't know why the school celebrity helped him. The school smoker of all people but here he was. Anxiously waiting to get Boruto alone-- but guess what? That was hard as fuck. Getting Boruto alone. He was accompanied by his uncle Neji everywhere. Along with a few more hyuga people. Jeez, talk about having no privacy.
But Kawaki finally caught Boruto alone, inside the washroom. Surprisingly nobody was in there.
"Hello Boruto?" Kawaki called out from behind him . Boruto squealed in a whisper, it reminded Kawaki of a scared hamster. Which was kinda cute.
"Holy crap bad boy. Warn a guy!" He whispered yeller at kawaki. Kawaki smiled a bit. Bad boy? That was a new name. Yeah, Kawaki looked like one. But he never acted like one. He was more so the school loner boy then a bad one. Other kids filled the role just fine.
"Yeah yeah.. I am here to discuss what I owe you exactly" Kawaki said, staring at boruto. Clean black pants, white shirt with hot pink jacket, blonde hair that was combed down, faint whiskers and baby blue--to innocent looking-- eyes. It wasn't someone he expected being related to Neji Hyuga but here they were.
"Owe me?" Boruto tilted his head looking confused which caught kawaki by surprise but before he could say anything Boruto's eyes beamed with recognition "oh yeah- you being high and me covering for you.. Honestly I was kinda joking about the whole owing me something ordeal" Boruto confessed.
Kawaki just stood there dumbfounded. Boruto at least according to the rumors was said to be a stuck up person, the perfect imagine of a Hyuga. No nonsense, just business. But now looking at the guy who was now awkwardly staring between him and the door. He realized that the rumors were false.
"Then why did you save me?" Kawaki asked, raising an eyebrow. Boruto again awkwardly leaned against the wall beside him, stiff as a rock.
"Well.. My mouth just moved? I have no idea. I just didn't want uncle neji to target you just because you sat next to me.." Boruto looked away a little sadly. What the fuck? Kawaki's mental image he had of Boruto was at the point of shattering. This guy just helped him for that reason. No it can't be... But it looked like it was.
"There has to be something.." Kawaki tried. He never liked the feeling of being helped. By stranger non the less. Boruto shrugged awkwardly, eyeing the door again before his eyes widened.
"Well unless.. You are willing to take risks.." Boruto whispered. Kawaki raised an eyebrow looking at the boy. "Can you sneak me out of my house, bad boy?" He asked something completely serious and Kawaki's brain went blank.
Boruto was the hyuga heir. It meant he lived in a tight security house. Kawaki was no stranger to sneaking away from home but to break Boruto out of a tight house like that? "Why? You wanna go somewhere?"
Boruto looked a little embarrassed, a pink shade covering his cheeks. Again cute and. Kawaki needed to stop thinking about his facial features for ten seconds. "Never mind-" "--no tell me, I have to know where you would go before agreeing or disagreeing. If you run away, I don't want the police on me" Kawaki explained.
Boruto blinked before quickly shaking his head and hands in front of him "no no no.. I don't wanna run away.. I just" Again with the blushing. Kawaki raised an eyebrow. Did he have a secret lover or something? "I wanted to go to Inojin's night party"
Kawaki stared at Boruto, inojin's night party? The night beach one?? Where everyone would be intoxicated. "You, future hyuga clan leader, the richest and pure son of the school... Want to go to a party to get high?" It sounded right but wrong because this was BORUTO UZUMAKI. the goody two shoes boy. Boruto hummed, nodding.
"Y-yeah? Itsallrightifyoudontwant--" "Hush now. Let me think first" Kawaki massaged his head. He has to break into the hyuga clan conjoined buildings and then hope to God that there is no bodyguards around. Kawaki glanced at Boruto and halted. The boy was staring at him with ocean blue eyes that stared at him with too much respect. For what? "Do you have plan or am I just supposed to break in and hope to God cops aren't called on me?"
Boruto shook his head "no no! I will let you know which wall to claim and honestly, you only need to catch me from the first story building and well help me being sneaky. Then... Give me directions to the party I guess. Then we are on our merry way" Boruto grinned. Kawaki stared at him before nodding.
"Fine. But" Boruto blinked, tilting his head. "I will come with you to the party. And leave you home myself. No going our merry ways. I'm sticking for the whole ride" Kawaki didn't partake in the party in the past. Only going there one time. Mostly because he didn't like how buddy buddy people would get with him. But there is no way he is letting this innocent, pretty much a baby blond alone with high people. Especially if the hyuga's can tie Boruto's disappearance back to kawaki.
Boruto smiled widely "okay then kawaki-kun" This guy really needs to stop being so darn cute...
~
Sneaking away was easy. Too easy. Mostly because his mother and father were on their usual night dates that hopefully wouldn't bring Boruto anymore siblings. No offense to his sister but she was a handful sometimes and well himawari was a deep sleeper.
His uncles and aunts all were in a separate building so there was nothing that would come his way. Boruto was successful at sneaking away from the guard's mostly because he always kept track of their patrol patterns. Boruto glanced outside and there he was! The knight in shining armor. Boruto always felt scared of escaping even though he knew he could. Mostly because he was alone. But now he had kawaki!
Boruto gave a wave and Kawaki waved back. Boruto smiled before jumping off, not making any voice. Kawaki caught him with a surprising amount of strength. Yes Boruto knew kawaki can certainly carry him, that's why he asked him to do so. But to just catch him with strong arms and not wavering. This guy was both cool and well built. Like an actual knight! Boruto shook away those thoughts.
"Can we go now bad boy?" Boruto asked as Kawaki rolled his eyes, letting him down.
"Yeah after you lead us out of the maze you call your home" Boruto nodded at that. Letting kawaki and himself out of the hyuga buildings as silently as he could. It was once they reached the main roads when Kawaki took Boruto's hand and became the guide instead. Boruto blushed at the warmth of the boy's palms. Before shaking away the feeling.
The party was what Boruto expected it to be, teenagers being teenagers. Kawaki had a good plan of getting Boruto a mask to hide his identity because if someone recognized Boruto they would be busted straight away. The beach was illuminated with small lanterns hung by Inojin's father, with the flunky smell of weed surrounding them. It made kawaki want to go and get a little bit high but he wasn't so sure after he saw Boruto stare at the scene and just marveled at the sight. It made kawaki ask what exactly did Boruto do to be so isolated. Isolated enough to find this mundane things beautiful.
“So… you wanna get high or drunk?” Kawaki asked leaning towards him so that Boruto could hear him easily over the loud music. Boruto looked pretty unsure even with the eye mask on, Kawaki could see the blue shine with uncertainty. “What was the plan here?”
“Nothing much… I do wanna do normal teenager stuff, it's just.. I have never” Kawaki blinked at Boruto’s soft explanation and tone. Oh. So the plan wasn't to get intoxicated at all.. It was for him to have fun. “What do you… usually do here?”
“Here? I never come to these parties personally. I literally only came here because of you” Kawaki answered truthfully. Boruto turned to look at him confused. “This isn't the prime event of socializing if that's what you think. It's fun but not everyone’s cup of tea. I do get high but I only do it alone. If you want to have fun.. Well I do other things for that”
“Like what?” Boruto asked, tilting his head. Kawaki found himself chuckling. Even with the monster mask Boruto has a level of innocence radiant from himself.
“There's a restaurant nearby, it has an arcade.” Boruto obviously looked interested as he leaned in closer. Kawaki just smiled at that. “You don't like drinking do you? You haven't tried it but you are too goody to do it to begin with” Boruto’s ears reddened as he frowned.
“I am not such a good boy.. But yes I don't really wanna do that…” Boruto looked away. Kawaki for some reason placed his palm on boruto's cheeks to make him look at him. “Huh-”
“if you don't want to do it. Don't. There are more comfortable ways of being rebellious. What do you say?” Kawaki asked with a smile. “You can join me” Boruto looked flustered but Kawaki didn't retract his hand. Liking the way his whiskers felt to his thumps.
“Well. Sure. Let's go and play games.. Kawaki-kun” Boruto retracted kawaki's hand for him. Kawaki chuckled. This guy was too cute for his own good. Even his type somehow. Kawaki froze. Ohhhhhh no-. Kawaki wordlessly took Boruto's hand and led him towards the Restaurant.
~
Boruto felt a rush of excitement as he followed kawaki inside a homely restaurant. It looked small with only three or four people inside. At the corner there was a huge door, which led the duo inside a small arcade with games that Boruto had played before, mostly alone.
“Woahhh kawaki-kun, this place is awesome!” Boruto grinned as Kawaki let go of Boruto’s hand. Boruto strangely missed the warmth but didn't say anything. Kawaki looked flustered but normal at the same time. Boruto removed his mask as nobody was inside this part of the restaurant. It being night time and everything.
“Which game do you want to play first?” Kawaki asked, glancing at Boruto looking at the games in excitement. It made his chest tight. Of all the people he needed to find pretty and cute, why was it Neji Hyuga's nephew? The Golden Child of the school? Kawaki shook away his thoughts. Well it wasn't like he would continue to be Boruto’s friend after today…
It's a physical attraction, nothing emotional.
“I want a Frog plushie!”
“Frog plushie it is.”
~
3:20 am, Kawaki checked the watch before glancing at Boruto nibbling his burger. “Good right?” Kawaki asked as Boruto nodded enthusiastically about the burger.
“It is! It's so juicy. I like this place!” Boruto started with a grin. Kawaki hummed using his arms to lean against the table. “Thank you for taking me here Bad boy” Boruto winked and kawaki felt his chest warm up again.
“No problem Good Boy”
3:56 am, Kawaki snorted as Boruto mimicked Mario's yahoo. “Take that Bowser!” Boruto giggled as Kawaki leaned in closer to see the score. Boruto turned to look at him at the same time, which resulted in Boruto’s lips accidentally touching Kawaki’s cheek. Kawaki inhaled softly, hyper aware of his environment. Boruto jumped back. “Oh- I am so sorry-”
“Nah it's fine. It's not like we French kissed.” Kawaki said, ignoring his own red face and Boruto's almost disappointed face. “Come on round two won't wait for us”
4:15 am, Kawaki found himself listening to Boruto's crazy story about ‘’’psycho bodyguards''’
“I genuinely have no privacy, it's either bodyguards or Uncle Neji!” Boruto cried out in annoyance and alot about Boruto made sense to kawaki now. Kawaki honestly felt bad about the forced isolation Boruto was going through. It might not be that bad with how much wealth and secured Boruto was. But isolation is still isolation. “I mean… it's valid, because I am the future hyuuga heir. But seriously. Sometimes I wish I was just Boruto Uzumaki ya know?”
“Then tell me more about the Uzumaki Part.” Kawaki asked, slurping his slushie. He was confused as to why Boruto has the surname Uzumaki when being a Hyuuga is what defined him. Boruto looked a little sad, which made Kawaki retract his question but Boruto ended up replying.
“My dad had to fight for me and my sister to have his last name. Heck, he had to fight to marry my mom and well.. Be in our lives in general” Boruto has a fond but sad smile on his face. Which made kawaki feel soft, a father fighting to be with his children was very rare. At least rare in kawaki's life. “Dad is what the Hyuuga clan considered bad news. He came out of an affair between Minato Namikaze” Kawaki felt his his go wide “and a normal Bartender, Kushina Uzumaki”
“Wait wait, Namikaze? Like the fourth Towns leader?” Kawaki asked and Boruto nodded before continuing.
“Yep. Him. He was supposed to Marry someone from the Hyuuga clan, a political marriage but fell in love with a normal Bartender, my grandma and had my dad. The whole thing is what got him demoted” Boruto took a few sips “My Mother was the original Heiress of the clan. That was until she met My Dad, who didn't really have any status anymore. At least after Grandpa got demoted… My mother was supposed to marry an Otsutsuki. “ Kawaki felt like he was listening to a telenovela.
“Otsutsuki? Like.. The president's–” “Yep. From the president’s clan. Toneri Otsutsuki if I am not mistaken… Dad and Mom eloped in secret and all hell broke loose. It probably were tough years, that is until I was born and the Hyuuga clan sorta forgave my mother and my father. I was immediately made the Heir of the Clan. I think it was something to do with My Aunt being sick around that time and… my uncle is from the side branch” Kawaki nodded slowly. Try to keep up. “That's the whole reason, everything around me is so… strict. They think I will follow my grandfather and Mother's footsteps. Marry someone like my Grandma and Father” Boruto chuckled softly.
“This is like a telenovela, not gonna lie” Kawaki joked and Boruto snorted into his palm, nodding.
“Yeah… I mean, the two people I was allowed to be friends with are from the Uchiha clan and the Otsutsuki clan. They really want me to marry high and not repeat history”
“Do you want to?”
Boruto blinked at the question. Before smiling away. “Depends on whether I can find someone like my dad and grandma…” Boruto glanced at Kawaki. “For what it's worth, the couples are happy with their choices. My sister and I are the living proof. I wish. I can have that, but I probably won't be able too”
Kawaki hummed, finishing his drink.
5:00, Kawaki and Boruto left the restaurant walking fast to get Boruto inside his room on time. “I am kinda sad you didn't tell me about yourself Kawaki-kun” Boruto joked as he saw the familiar robes to climb back.
“I can tell you my life story tomorrow, if you want” That made Boruto halt in his place. Boruto turned to look at Kawaki. “What? You expect me not to be friends with you?” Boruto felt his cheeks warm.
“Oh.. I just thought " "Yeah that was the plan but I enjoyed your company a lot and that's coming from the loner of the school” kawaki explained before giving Boruto a charming smile that made Boruto halt. “My Life story is a little bit gruesome.. But I feel comfortable enough to share it with you.”
Boruto didn't know why his heart was beating fast. “I won't judge”
“I know you won't, you are quite the compassionate person” Kawaki winked and Boruto felt giddy. “See you tomorrow Boruto”
“Good night Kawaki-kun” Boruto gave one last smile before climbing the wall.
