Oh mama, how I hate him

Summary:

Boruto was starting to hate Blue Roses and Kawaki always had conflicted feelings about soul marks in general. One thing was for sure, they would rather die/kill than agree that they belonged together through their marks.

Or

Canon but Kawaki and Boruto are soulmates

Chapter Text

Soulmates, a concept that everyone knew since the day they were born. Not every individual but 1 out of every 10 people had a Soul mark in this universe. Nothing fancy just a ring that went around someone's limbs, arms, necks or sometimes even heads. The ring at first is just a dark green band but after a person comes in contact with their soulmate the band blooms a flower that is their soulmate in flower form.

Naruto and Hinata Uzumaki didn't have such a soul mark but they decided that they belonged to each other anyways, Naruto's father and mother did have soul marks. Kushina Uzumaki soul mark had bloomed a bunch of Yellow Alpenroses and soft brush of leaves when she first met Minato according to Tsunade and Minato's bloomed a bunch of dark red gladiolus flowers with no leaves. Hinata's parents didn't have soul marks like her but Neji did. The moment her brother made contact with his new teammates Ten-Ten and Rock Lee, the green band bloomed a bright green sunflower alongside white Lilies.

All things said they both were happy with the concepts of soulmates and were more than happy when both their children were born with soulmarks...

Himawari Uzumaki's soulmark was around her neck and bloomed the day she met Inojin much to Naruto's dismay. To everyone's astonishment and the kids' adorableness, both their soulmarks were bright yellow Sunflowers only Inojin's had large leaves and Himawari's didn't.

Boruto's was much hidden, the band was around his left thigh. He never really minded the closed location the band was in. Considering everyone who had a soulmark was often interrogated for their love life. Only a few people knew about his mark, his family, his friends, family friends and mentor. He wasn't expecting to meet his soulmate, nor was he overly excited like most people when they found their true one. But the mark never concerned him.

...Until he found a boy unconscious on the floor post murdering another dude, who had a soul mark of his own around his right bicep. As soon as Boruto came closer and kneeled before him. Boruto felt a lingering sensation in his thigh where his soulmark was and like a mindless zombie he touched the guy's arm. The lingering lasted a few minutes and Boruto had no idea what had happened until Sarada gasped and pointed at the guy's soulmark which has bloomed into Deep pink cosmos with no leaves but some cursive vines. Boruto's mind finally caught up to him.
This guy was his soulmate.

Kawaki didn't know what the green band was around his bicep until he met Amado and learned what a soulmate and mark was. He immediately decided that it was meaningless. His father didn't have a soulmark and nobody in kara except Amado had a soulmark. Amado's was a silver lily of valleys that looked dull and lifeless. Amado had explained that when a soulmate dies, the other individual's flowers starts to become dry and decay in a way.

That being said, Kawaki had no hope in finding the person who shared the essence of the mark in his body, especially if he already hated the mark on his palm, the Karma. His main goal was to run away and so he did. He got his freedom in Konoha and with that he found his soulmate.

Kawaki glanced at the Deep pink cosmos before looking at Boruto, who ignored his existence and played a game. This brat? Really?

The Uzumaki's took Kawaki under their wing, already acting like he was family. Surprisingly the one person who was against it was his soulmate, who thought of Kawaki as dangerous and seemed to fully ignore the fact that they were soulmates to begin with. Not that Kawaki cared, he didn't want to be here anyways. Heck Kawaki didn't even believe that Boruto was his soulmate, Boruto didn't show his mark or tell him he was his. It was Lord 7th who broke the news about their connection.

Speaking of connection, this kid himself had karma. Talk about irony in his life. Kawaki refused to believe that they were soulmates and Boruto seemed to have silently agreed. So they just ignored the fact.

It was until the Delta fight that they got into speaking terms and even then they both ignored the fact that they were connected through anything that wasn't Karma.

"Do you know what a bath house is now?" Boruto asked as they reached the resort. The family was going on a Holiday and they had dragged Kawaki with them. Kawaki nodded, he didn't understand the appeal of a bath house and the most he got out of the experience was a competition with Boruto on who could stay in more heat. Which ended in a draw.

Kawaki huffed out as he glanced at Boruto who was as red as he was. But something else caught his attention, around Boruto's left thigh was a green band that had bloomed Dark almost cold blue roses that had sharp thrones instead of normal leaves and vines. It looked painful until he remembered they weren't actual thrones.. his eyes were glued on the soulmark. Both their marks were similar yet different, the Cosmos had a deep colour just like the dark colours of the Roses but while the Cosmos looked pretty. The roses looked painful.

"Kawaki?" Boruto asked, looking at him a little concerned. Boruto followed where Kawaki was looking and blinked at his own soulmark "oh..." The air grew awkward as they sat near the hotspring. "We should...go in. Dad's waiting".

Kawaki slowly nodded, not before giving the mark one last glance. The night became much more bearable after Boruto dragged him to a haunted house and they continued to mess around. But as Lord 7th assured him he was part of the family followed by Boruto agreeing. Kawaki finally came to terms with the knowledge that the boy next to him is in fact his soulmate and he didn't really know how to feel about that.

So Boruto had the worst luck when it came to a love life apparently, that's all he could think of as he died. While it was for a very noble cause, he still felt bitter about the absolute disinterest his so-called soulmate showed but Boruto was too tired to feel proper bitterness.

"Do it kai" was going to be his last words and he just didn't know how to feel until he came back to life. One thing was clear, he didn't like the feeling.

' I will do anything to keep lord 7th safe '

Boruto stared at his palm that held the Karma as he explained to Sarada and Mitsuki about what happened. They didn't ponder much but they both looked worried. In his life, most of his life was connected to his father of course, he was not only his dad but also the Hokage. To how the people would call him young lord after his father to his own Sensei being his father's former rival. But that never felt as weird as the knowledge that his own soulmate would kill him to protect his father.

The worst part is that Boruto understood why Kawaki feels this way and why he did what he did. Boruto just went along with everything moving forward. The introduction of Eida and her brother and what she felt for Kawaki didn't deter him even though everyone looked at him like they were expecting him to argue against it. For what? Everything was normal after all.

It was when Amado explained how Daemon's and Eida's powers worked and who shibai otsutsuki was when he realized things were changing rapidly for him.

"Oi Kawaki" he called out before walking towards him and giving him his handkerchief. They were alone now and going towards their house to pack for this honeypot themed mission "Your cheeks still red from that hit"

"You don't feel anything?" Kawaki asked suddenly and Boruto raised an eyebrow.

"Feel what? Momoshiki? No" Boruto quickly denied. He did see the future and mentally talked with momoshiki but telling Kawaki that will only make him hyper.
Kawaki raised his eyebrow but continued "I didn't mean momoshiki. I meant about eida"

"We both are immune to her, are you implying you are not?" Boruto now looked confused as Kawaki huffed.

"I am. I am just saying. I woke up on her lap, you didn't feel anything?" Boruto blinked at Kawaki's statement. They stared at each other before Kawaki suddenly walked towards their house to pack.

"You know people usually feel jealous when their soulmate is being flirted with" Eida's comment made Boruto pause his eating and stare at her before he glanced at Kawaki. Kawaki was busy eating his eggs not minding the conversation that was obviously about him.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Boruto asked, stopping his voice from sounding defensive. Eida just gave a smile. "Also it's creepy to spy on us ya'know? If you see me as competition... don't" eida looked pretty cool with that. The air grew awkward until daemon started to antagonise Kawaki and they got into a heated argument about something that Boruto honestly gave least shits about. He was prone to ignore it and just talk to Eida, perhaps to even get information about code out of her when.

"You should be thankful to my sister. Your own soulmate doesn't like you"

The room went quiet before Boruto stated "I like him" Kawaki's head whipped towards his direction "It's complicated but I do care about him and want him happy" the room fell into a deep silence that Boruto felt could be cut with his sensei's katana. It was true, his feelings for Kawaki were absolutely complicated especially when it came to Kawaki's obsession with keeping his father safe but he knew the reasons.

"He killed you and you still love him?" Eida asked, a bit astonished. Boruto blinked before tilting his head. Love was a strong world but it was still valid.

"Yeah why?" Even more silence, Boruto glanced at Kawaki who stared at his finished plate. Eida suddenly slammed her own plate down before asking for Sumire and Sarada.

Sumire and Sarada were soulmates since the day they met. Sumire like him had roses but here's were blood red with no thrones but straight leaves and Sarada has Purple dandelions with no leaves or vines.

He wasn't expecting it to be his last day in Konoha
