Work Text:
Fuyune is well acquainted with the fact that some people just do not know what’s good for them.
After all, wasn’t she one of them? She really thought practicing at all times of the day would help her? She thought listening to her parents would help her, because they loved her.
As if.
If you love someone you don’t abandon them after you push them so hard they can barely use their hand.
You don’t talk about them as if they’re dead.
You don’t let them go at all.
But, really, shouldn’t she be thankful? Her parents taught her two very important things, and Akito taught her something else.
There was one person who could see her lose, and still praise her.
Her sweet Akito, who failed and kept trying, who watched experienced performers with wide eyes and boasted breathlessly about surpassing RAD WEEKEND.
He was too much like, her, he didn’t know what was good for him either. Choosing Aoyagi of all people? Someone who wasn’t loyal, who was just acting out, who would and did abandon Aki when he felt like it?
And Aki took him back!
Ugh, poor thing, he needs someone to look after him. To kiss his the wounds on his soul better and make him forget about everyone who ever hurt him.
No she has to make him understand they hurt him first.
And of course it should be her, why shouldn’t it be? Wouldn’t she have wanted someone to whisk her away from her parents, tell her she could take a week off, that if she wanted to try drama or something beyond archery, it was ok? That if she got an A- it wasn’t the end of the world?
There was no prince to sweep her off her feet, but she can sweep Aki off his, can’t she? And, perhaps it’s selfish, a little, to want him to love her back, but that’s only natural, isn’t it?
Aki saved her, now she’s going to return the favor. Even if he doesn’t realize it. Even if he kicks and screams and demands to be let go, she won’t. She’ll make sure he’s safe and sound and eventually, he’ll come to see she’s doing this because she loves him. That she’s been looking at his life from an objective, outside perspective and saw the truth: If Akito isn’t rescued from his friends and his family, they’ll drive him into the dirt. He’ll work himself to death and no one will notice or care.
But she knows better. She can see the truth. She learned it personally, the hard way.
And she WILL keep him safe from anything, even himself.
