Work Text:
New sat back as he watched his husband practice, an ice box and a lot of snacks sitting beside him as he recorded him practicing and uploaded different videos on his various social media accounts, some of which included his professional business accounts.
People were equally charmed by both him and his handsome omega husband. By him because omegas and betas mainly went gaga when his first modeling pictures came out at the naive age of nineteen.
He became an overnight sensation, his pictures were all over the growing media and billboards as he landed numerous modeling jobs, advertisements and even acting offers.
He carefully chose the stuff he knew would get through and what he actually liked in those offers. But he found acting tougher than modeling— not that he wasn't the one to hustle— it's just he wanted to try out many things before choosing one.
So after three mildly successful ventures acting as a main lead in series, he opted for doing side roles more and taking up advertisements while he was still modeling. This allowed him flexibility to set up his own business; a chain of spas and a clothing brand. He often did commercials for his own brands as well.
As for his husband, New wouldn't shy away from admitting that sometimes people liked him more; why, one would ask.
It was because his handsome husband was headstrong. He paved the way for himself, and possible other male omegas in the field of not only badminton but so much more, in an era when people treated male omegas like abomination. He fought and fought and fought his way through to get where he was today.
The fight hadn't ended yet as Tay had also set up a non-profit organization for the welfare of male omegas first and foremost but it also covered various other social stigmas.
They had met at a charity event two and a half years ago which Tay was hosting, and immediately connected when they were introduced.
Next thing they both know they are doing commercials together and hanging out later in the evening, laughing, singing and having a good time overall until the both of them lost themselves in each other.
New was forever grateful for his bluntness that night when he was dropping Tay off after celebrating five months of their friendship— which was an excuse of it's own.
"I like you."
New remembered he had said as soon as the car had stopped, Tay didn't even get the time to unlock the seatbelt. They had just sat there a little awkwardly as New had clenched at the steering wheel tight, not noticing Tay had turned to him.
"Thank God, it's all not in my head when you're clearly showering with me all the attention I have received for the first time in these years."
They ended up kissing that night. And got hitched a month afterwards. Things were going fast so they realized they should slow down as they bought a home together.
As time went by, they still did commercials together, supported and helped out each other with their work as they found a balance in their life together.
It was needless to say they were quite proud of each other.
"Practice for half an hour before a break." The coach announced as he walked off into the direction of probably students, who were still in their uniforms but they held badminton rackets in their hands. They looked so eager to learn as a smile came on New's face and he turned to see his husband practicing for the inter-asia tournament with his teammates.
He kept his eyes on his husband reaching inside the ice box and got a drink, opening the cap before screwing it back as he saw the racket falling from Tay's hand— his heart seized.
The bottle slipped from his hands as he shot up from his seat, watching how his husband painfully landed on his knees, only grabbing the attention of his teammate now. But before his upper body could touch the ground— potentially hurting his hand or shoulder, New had slid under him, catching him just at the right time.
"Tay!" People huddled around them as New gently cupped his husband's warm face, "Tay?" He shook his hand, but his husband was unresponsive,
"Tay?!" He shook him again, his voice shaking this time. When Tay's eyes stayed closed, New snapped up, "Clear the way." He got on a knee and secured his arms around his husband's back and under his knees as he scooped him up with ease, turning around and running for the exit.
Somehow New managed Tay to the car and then to the nearest hospital as he was the one who got him out of the car— while his husband was still out of consciousness— got him on the stretcher.
It was hell, waiting for his husband in the waiting room, pacing back and forth restlessly as the coach and his teammate reached the hospital,
Asking him about if they said something about him or reassuring him that everything will be alright.
Then what felt like an eternity when the nurse came to them, "Relative of Tay Tawan?" New stepped forwards, "I'm his husband, is he okay, can I see him?"
"Your husband and the baby are okay now, we've shifted him to a ward—"
"Baby?" New voiced his thoughts a little loud as even the nurse was taken aback, "Uh... Yes, your husband was severely dehydrated and miscarrying by the time he was brought here but we have prevented it from happening. Also you can see him now."
The nurse walked away after that, leaving New, even the coach and the teammate in confusion. New was just processing the information when the face of the coach came before his eyes as he patted his shoulder,
"Regardless of him being pregnant, which I will keep a secret for now," He eyed the teammate behind New a little deadly in the eyes before turning back to him, "I knew he was pushing himself a little too much when I have reminded him numerous times to give a seventy percent when a seventy perfect is required but..."
The coach trailed off, sighing out before ultimately meeting New's eyes and smiling a little, "Whatever the conclusion you and Tay come to, I will accept it with open arms."
The coach disappeared then as New sat down nearby, trying to pull himself together by rubbing his face, exhaling and combing his fingers through his hair,
They hadn't discussed the topic of children yet but that wasn't the main concern, they were both individually financially stable enough to take on the responsibility of a child,
The problem was that less than a month away was the inter-asia tournament. Something which Tay was excited about and determined to win since it was only last year Thailand scored a position but they lost, though they put up a great show and garnered much more attention, love and even fans from across Asia.
Besides he's read so many posts of omegas who have gone through pregnancy. He read how hard it was on them, their bodies, their minds. The disconnection they felt from themselves just to feel connected to a tiny little human. Having to forsake everything that was their identity just to adopt only one,
Of a mere parent...
He didn't want that for Tay, not that he would mind anything, but the mere thought of his dear husband struggling just to be the person he was once was simply... Heartbreaking for him...
He exhaled, getting from there and asking the person sitting behind the desk about his husband as he soon found himself in front of the ward where Tay was. As he gripped the handle, he made up his mind that whatever was Tay's decision he would stand by it.
He walked inside the room quietly, Tay was hooked up to a saline and was currently unconscious, looking a little pale as New grabbed a stool and sat near him, caressing his hair. Tears welled up in his eyes to see his husband here but he once again inhaled and exhaled, pulling himself together.
"Hey," New looked up at Tay in surprise when his raspy voice filled in his ears. Tay frowned, "What happened?" He tried getting up but New laid him back,
"You need rest, at least for now. But first tell me how you are feeling?" Tay gently smiled at him, slowly blinking his eyes, "Mostly fine, just a little weak."
"Are you feeling hungry?" He nodded as he sneaked his hand under New's, rubbing his thumb over the purlicue, "Just a little though but what about the practice—"
"We need to talk about that," Tay's eyebrows knitted together as he turned to New a little more, "What's happening, New? You're scaring me."
There's a ghost of a curl for a brief moment on New's face as he cupped Tay's cheek again and said, "Listen to me carefully okay; you're not dying, let me clear that out."
Relief surged through Tay's features as he melted a little more into New's touch, "The coach said that you're pushing yourself a little too much,"
"Why shouldn't I?" Tay gently interrupted, "The inter-asia tournaments are just around the corner—"
"You're pregnant, Tay." Silence took over the room as Tay just stared at New, whose heart had dropped already not knowing what reaction his husband would have,
A long moment passed before Tay spoke up, "Really?" He sounded rather... Positive from his intonation then saddened. New could only nod as Tay blinked, turning his head to the ceiling, an unexpected smile forming on his face. New watched as Tay's hand traveled to his abdomen, caressing it before he turned to his husband,
"We're having a baby?" His smile fully sprouted like flowers during spring as New instead questioned, "But what about you? Your— your career— you wanted to win the inter-asia tournament this year so bad..."
Tay widened his smile as this time it was him who cupped New's face, "Before I answer, you tell me one thing, what is your opinion on us having children of our own one day? Should it be this soon?"
"I'm comfortable with whatever you are, besides these days I don't feel like going to many parties either." Tay chuckled as it took somewhat of a burden off of New's shoulders.
"I'm pretty sure my career isn't dying but at the same time it's not an ideal time to take a hiatus." Before New's mind could wander off, Tay met his eyes again,
"I'm also ready to have this baby. Besides me backing down would only create a stir for myself. People would be on the edge of their seats when I make my comeback, already having me judged that I can't play well now that I have a child of my own,
"But I will prove them wrong. Regardless if we win this year, I will prove my worth in this field. Just will you be there holding our baby in your arms wearing matching supportive tees?"
New laughed as he leaned in grazing his lips over Tay's, "Is that even a question to ask?"
