Blink if you need a kiss

Summary:

Otoya doesn’t plan to hit three months without kissing, so he picks a target inside Blue Lock to break the streak.

Notes:

This started as an attempt at contextualizing Otoya and Chigiri being close enough to detail their eyelashes and then THAT additional time came out and I WENT WILD. This is also a rare case where the title came to my mind in English first.

Work Text:

Otoya can’t remember the last time he went so long without kissing. These two months with no women around have forced him into an abstinence he doubts he can endure for whatever time Ego plans to keep them isolated from the outside world. His best chance might come in three weeks, when they play against the U-20 team, but that’d mean hitting three months and that’s a record he isn’t willing to beat.

Although he’s well aware of how crazy it sounds out loud, Otoya is a determined man; stepping back isn’t on his mind. He’ll get a kiss without leaving the Blue Lock facilities and he already knows from who to look for it. Anri would be ideal, but she’s off the list; people might think he’s trying to climb by trickery. That makes all of his options men, which would normally stop him, except there’s one he could give it a shot with.

Chigiri Hyoma caught his attention since their match up during the Second Selection. His features are the prettiest he’s ever seen on a man and, paired with long, healthy hair styled in an equally cute half-up, no one could blame him for being slightly attracted to him. He can’t be the only one. Otoya is sure that with some make-up, anyone would forget he’s not a girl.

His first attempt at kissing him made Otoya understand this wasn’t going to be an easy mission, or maybe Chigiri only resisted because he quickly realized that, even though he asked for actual ninjutsu, Otoya was displaying seduction techniques. Whatever it was, he’ll be more careful now. Chigiri doesn’t seem to like being surprised, he’s even wondering if it’d be better to be straightforward. At worst, he doubts he’ll hit harder than Karasu, whom he’ll try to keep away just in case witnesses are also unwanted.

At least, they’re free to approach whoever they want in their free time after the tryouts end, so the hardest part is spotting Chigiri alone. It’s clear that many of his former teammates made it this far just by how large the group he eats with is, and Otoya might like Bachira, but he’s one of the guys that Chigiri shares the most with. Not even the play they’re preparing for the game with Karasu earns him time alone. Otoya suspects that his friend’s analytical head has already figured out his intentions and decided to sabotage him on purpose. He’d confront him if he didn’t think it would only encourage Karasu to get worse.

The moment he’s been waiting for comes by sheer luck almost a week into his plan. Someone enters the bathroom right after Otoya is done brushing his teeth and, when he turns around, he’s surprised to see it’s only Chigiri. He was going to comment on that, but he noticed a teary eye.

“Something’s wrong?”

“I think I got an eyelash in my eye,” he replies with evident annoyance in his voice, standing as close to the mirror as he can. “There it is! Uh…” Chigiri looks around, apparently unsure of where’s whatever it is he’s trying to find. “There are eye drops here, right?”

“I think I saw them there.” Otoya checks where the personal care products are and luckily gets them in one go. “Ding, ding, ding.” He shakes the dropper to the sound.

“Can you help me?” He heads to the benches to sit down. “One’s enough.”

“Sure.” Is he dreaming? Is Chigiri asking him to help him apply an eye drop, something that implies getting close to each other? This is his chance! Otoya chats in the meantime. “Sounds like this happens often.”

“This is what you get for having long eyelashes.” He looks up and pulls his lower eyelid down with a finger. Otoya leans forward, the applicator already uncapped.

“I’d already noticed, but now that I’m looking at them up close again, you truly have the longest eyelashes I’ve ever seen on a man.” The drop falls at that moment. Instead of walking away, Otoya turns to sit next to Chigiri while he blinks and moves his eye so that the eyelash gets out.

“Yeah, I’m yet to see another man with longer lashes than mine.”

“I bet you could hold a pocky on them.”

“Don’t exaggerate.” Chigiri stifles his laughter.

“Maybe they'd be firmer with some mascara and-…”

“I won’t wear make-up nor do I want chocolate in my eyes… oh, or is it because you couldn’t play with a man?”

“I could! Winning is another matter. It might be possible with you, though.”

“Uh-huh.” Chigiri rolls his eyes. Otoya would worry more about it were it not for the fact that this movement finally flushes the annoying eyelash out.

“Oh, there it goes.” Mindlessly, he slides his thumb along the trail of a tear until he reaches the stray eyelash.

Chigiri turns his head a little towards him, lips parted as if his tongue had tangled before he could even speak, and the light reflecting off the moisture in the long, pretty lashes draws Otoya’s attention to his eyes. Neither of them move, nor do they say a word.

When he wakes up enough from the trance, Otoya runs his thumb down to the jaw and, with his index finger holding the opposite side, he makes Chigiri completely face him.

“This is how lifting the chin up works?” He blinks.

Otoya raises his eyebrows, heart skipping a beat. It wasn’t entirely intentional, but since they’re already at it, he leans in for the next step.

“You paid attention to my seduction lessons, I’m glad,” he murmurs into his ear.

When Otoya pulls away, he doesn’t think the light pink on Chigiri’s cheeks is just his imagination. He can’t help but come closer again.

“So you can with men.” Chigiri stops him with a hand between their mouths. He sounds chirpy.

“Just don’t tell anyone I can make exceptions.”

“It better not be because you can pretend I’m a girl.”

Um. A blink.

“How come?” He feigns innocence while blinking several more times to disguise the last one.

Otoya is almost convinced he’s a dead man when Chigiri glares at him through squinted eyes. It’s obvious he doesn’t fall for it in the slightest. He lasted long, at least. He’s ready to be pushed aside.

“Whatever.” Chigiri huffs, then takes his hand away.

He’s so prepared for what seems like an imminent failure that it takes Otoya a while to realize he actually granted him permission, but no more time goes to waste as soon as he catches it.

Luckily, this is happening right after he brushed his teeth, since he likes to kiss with a fresh mouth; it adds up to his virtues. It doesn’t matter that toothpaste isn’t the best of flavors, it’s just what’s within reach in the absence of his ever-reliable breath mints.

He can tell Chigiri isn’t that experienced, it’s not a problem though. Teaching is a pleasure. Otoya doesn’t know how much time he has, so he’s about to show him where to put his hands, guiding them with his own, when Chigiri moves faster and grabs his hair, but only to pull him back. It’s so out of the blue that his lips still pucker for a few seconds later.

“Try again when you no longer fantasize weird things about me.” He lets go of his hair, pats him twice on the head, gets up and walks to the door.

“What?” The interruption, the sting of the tug and Chigiri’s words leave Otoya dumbfounded. What makes him think he’s fantasizing weird things? Is it because he didn’t hide why he was an exception? For using the same seduction techniques he plays women with? If he thinks about him as a man from the start, will he…? Wait! “Again?”

The question comes just in time. Chigiri is about to grab the knob.

“Ah, I forgot.” He opens the door, one step out. “Thanks for helping me.”

Chigiri disappears from his sight with a smile and without the answer he was looking for.

Once alone, Otoya remains seated while he rewinds the last minutes. From doing him a favor to getting the kiss he so desperately needed, that’s just how unbelievable this was. He sees the hand he held his chin with and is shocked to find the eyelash still on his thumb. It feels like proof that what just happened was real.

He kissed Chigiri. Yes, a guy. Still with his trick of visualizing him as a girl, Otoya was uncertain if he’d step back when the time came after realizing it was different from what he already knew. To his surprise, he’s more than willing to repeat it as many times he lets him. He’s frustrated about how things ended today, to begin with.

If he must accept reality to get more chances, he’ll forget about make-up in his fantasies. After all, even in them, everything from the neck down is undeniably masculine.
