Dogday's Little Gift

Summary:

Catnap decides to give Dogday a gift, though an accident causes the cat to play with it a little himself.

Notes:

Story I decided to port over to here cause I could, felt appropriate. Wrote this before the Hoppy and Bobby one.

Also part 2 hasn't started being written so don't expect that for a while.

Chapter 1: Doggy Dogday

Chapter Text

It was a nice sunny day, a purple cat with a smile across his face walked up to a big orange house. Lifting up a paw and knocking on the red door he waited patiently for his friend to answer.

Only a minute passed before the door to the home opened and revealed an orange dog within. As soon as his white pupils landed on the purple cat boy he raised his free hand while giving him the normal huge smile that the critter and all of his friends were known for.

“Oh hi Catnap!” The dog greets, giving a small wave. “Hi, friend.” His friend spoke, Catnap’s voice was soft as it usually was, though friendly as he always was.

“Well what brings you here pal?” He asks, tail swaying.

“I have a gift for you Dogday.” The cat spoke, Dogday noticed that one of his hands were behind his back.

“Oh? What is it?” He asks, curious as to what Catnap wanted to give him.

“Could I come in first?” Catnap asks with the cocker spaniel stepping aside to let the cat boy inside. “Sure, you’re always welcome.” He spoke, watching the feline walk past, turning so his friend couldn’t see whatever it was, he couldn’t even sneak a peek from the side as Catnap’s slithery little tail got in the way.

Catnap went over and sat on Dogday’s couch, his ears catching the sound of the front door being shut. He put the object behind him while his canine friend padded up to him.

“Anyway, what do you have?” Dogday asked him, voice curious. Tail wagging in anticipation of what his friend had in store for him. In response to the boy, Catnap moved his tail so it was visible to the dog. A strange round ringlike object being placed around it. Dogday cocked his head in confusion at the sight of it. What was that thing supposed to be?

“What’s that?” He asks, pointing to the object. He wasn’t exactly sure what it was.

“This?” He questions in response, taking the round thing off his tail. “It’s a collar, silly.” He explains though his explanation didn’t change Dogday’s expression, confusion was still etched on his face.

“A collar? W-Why?” Dogday wasn’t sure what to think of this situation. Why would Catnap give him a collar of all things? Seemed a little strange to him.

“Try it on.” He says, moving his tail toward him and allowing his friend to take it. “I think it’d look good on you.” The cat adds with a smile.

Dogday reaches out for it before cautiously taking it in her paw and looking it over. It was a nice color, but something about it felt strange. The white pupils of the dog looked at the cat. The purple boy just stared at him, waiting, allowing his friend to take as long he needed if he even wanted to in the first place.

A few moments passed in silence between them before Dogday almost a bit reluctantly decided to begin putting the collar around his neck. His fingers slowly but surely made sure it was in place on him, making sure it wasn’t too tight.

“S-So, how’s it look?” The boy asks when he’s finished, a light blush on the pup’s face.

“Yeah, you look great.” Catnap complemented with the same smile as before.

“Anyway, why’d you give this to me?” His friend asked, curious as to if there was a reason for whatever this was.

“I just wanted to give a gift.” The violet cat explains to the canine.

“Yeah, but isn’t this a bit of a… weird gift.” He spoke, his fingers toying with the thing. Dogday was unsure how to think of this, he was a dog but the accessory around his neck made him feel weird in a way he couldn’t describe.

“Admittedly yeah sorry… though it does do a little something.” The tail of the cat swayed, it gave a mischievous feeling to the cat.

“It does? Like what?” He asks, curiosity in his voice and his wagging tail supported it. What would this thing even do? He wouldn’t mind wearing this for a bit to find out, and it was starting to feel more comfortable on him too.

Day ran his fingers over the exterior of the collar, looking for any sign of a button or something on it. Catnap’s statement making his curiosity get the best of him.

“Just a little something.” Catnap spoke before the sound of a button clicking hit the big ears of the dog, making the dog jump as he heard it. He accidently hit something on the collar. Two little lights turned on at the sides of the front of the collar

A shiver went up Dogday’s spine almost instantly, making him straighten up a bit, his body feeling a little cold. His mind started feeling foggy and before he could even react he felt numb and couldn’t move as his thoughts left him. His mind felt completely empty.

Catnap watched, seeing the dog boy freeze up, tail stop, eyes stare blankly ahead, mouth fall open in response to his empty mind. The cat smiled, his friend was under his control.

“Dogday, wag your tail.” He told him, just to see if it would work and to the sleepy kitty’s delight his tail began wagging while the rest of his body stood unmoving.

“Interesting result. An expected one, but still.” The purple cat spoke to himself, looking the dog boy up and down. “Neat how powerful these seem to be.” He adds. Catnap thought about what to do with his friend for a moment. He may as well play with him a little bit in this situation, take advantage a little, test it out a bit.

“How about you go get me a sandwich Dogday.” In an instant the boy turns and wanders into the kitchen. Seeing this Catnap moves to lay on his back, the cute little leader of the critters would know what to do. Until than though he’d just sit and relax.

Only a few moments would pass with catnap laying on his friend’s couch before he returns with the cat’s food. Sitting back up the purple kitty took his sandwich from the dog.

“Thank you.” He says, taking a bite out of it. The orange cocker spaniel knew what his friends liked when it came to sandwiches so it was guaranteed to be his favorite. While he ate he racked his brain on what to make his friend do next. Before long something did pop into his head.

Finishing up his sandwich Catnap looked at his mindless friend. He was a dog after all, why not make him just like one too.

“Dogday, you have any bones laying around?” He asks the cocker spaniel. Thankfully he excitedly nodded his head. “Good, bring me one. Could you?” He adds, once again a nod before he rushes off out of sight to go do what was asked of him without another thought in his head.

With this the kitten waited for his friend to fulfill his order. Giving a quick stretch before his mindless buddy returned with his little request. Soon enough though the footsteps of Dogday would return and he padded up to his purple friend, bone clutched in his paw.

“Here you go, Master Catnap.” He spoke, extending his arm to hand his friend his bone. Catnap happily accepted the offering, looking it over in his paw with his tail swaying behind him. Seeing a few bite marks around the bone.

“Oh, nice bone you got here.” He tells him, turning the cartoonish looking bone over in his palm. Dogday couldn’t comprehend the compliment but he’d be sure to tell his friend outside of the mind control collar’s influence.

Until than he stared blankly ahead at his friend with a goofy smile on his face. Looking back up to his face Catnap smiles.

“Thank you.” He says with his friend absently nodding. “You’re welcome, Master.” He replied, the sound of him being called master felt a little weird to the cat, but he supposed he technically was currently.

“Now.” He begins while holding out the bone in front of Dogday’s face. “I want you to think like a dog.” He told him. “Like an actual dog.” He adds to confirm what he wanted from his friend.

The orange dog twitches a little at the command. The brain behind his big eyes started reconnecting some wires.

“Good boy, no more big thoughts. Doggys can’t think big thoughts.” The cat told the boy. To his cloudy head that logic made sense to Dogday, doggys didn’t need to have big thoughts. “Doggys don’t speak either.” He adds and once again the boy’s mind agreed with the cat’s words. As soon as he did his mind quickly discarded his ability to speak as he normally did.

“You just wanna be happy and play all day.” He says with a chuckle. That was exactly what he wanted to do, with his mind cleaned out Dogdays brain immediately began thinking of playing, jumping around playing games with Catnap as soon as he mentioned it and he really wanted to right now.

“Good, no more big thoughts, just simple ones. When your mind is done give me a good bark.” Catnap told him. His friend’s mind continued to fit a regular dog's. His brain was unable to think any sort of complex thought and soon his speech became limited temporarily at his Master’s, owner? He wasn’t quite sure, request.

Dogday’s mind finished what he was told, his white eyes had a different kind of look to them. The cute little tail behind him began visibly wagging as his brain filled with new thoughts. Simple happy thoughts that he would certainly act on as soon as he was allowed.

The boy’s transformation was complete with an “Arf!” coming out of his mouth to capstone it. His tongue falling out in the process.

“Good boy, now stand on all fours. You can’t stand on your hind legs for long.” Catnap tells him. Upon hearing this Dogday felt his legs feel wobbly before falling forward onto his hands and knees. His white pupils darted up to the purple cat, giving another bark to his friend.

Catnap giggles, reaching down and petting his floppy eared friend’s head. “Good boy.” He says with a smile, his other hand holding the bone above him. “Now.”

“You like the bone don’t you?” He asks, seeing the orange dog nod his head and stare at thebone in his hand, eyes sparkling at the sight. “You want it?” He gets a nod. “Good, catch.” He says, tossing the bone into the air for the pup.

Almost in an instant he barked and hopped up, spinning around to see and get a good shot at it. Just as it was beginning to fall the dog jumped up with a wide open mouth to catch it. To his delight the fell right into his mouth before biting down on it. Happy noises came out of him alongside his tail wagging at his successful catch with his friend giving a small clap for him.

Spinning around he found the purple kitty up on his feet. The second he saw this he hopped over to him, putting his forepaws on his friend's belly, his tail wagging furiously. Before he knew it a paw was put on his head and himself being petted. It made him feel amazing.

“Who’s a good boy?” Catnap asks, continuing rubbing and petting his head, making sure to get behind the ears. All too quickly the cocker spaniel gave a loud woof in confirmation that he was very much a good boy.

“Yes, you are. Yes you are.” He told his friend with a smile. Taking the bone from his mouth Cat took a step back and held the bone back over his head with a smile. “You want it?” He asks again and once again the spaniel nodded his head though more vigorously. His mouth formed into a smirk before tossing it across the room instead of into the air.

Seeing the bone fly through the air, Dogday quickly dashes to the other side of the room hopping as he runs. His purple friend watches him reach the other end of the room, hearing the bone hit the wall and bounce onto the floor.

The pup watches this happen and takes it with his mouth upon it hitting the floor. His head looked back up toward Catnap, looking as happy as could be, tail wagging happily.

Almost as quickly as he got there he quickly bounds up to his friend once again. It only took a couple bounces before he closed the gap between them. Though it seemed he misjudged the remaining distance since Dogday jumped and ended up ramming right into Catnap’s stomach, making him let out a yelp and fall to the floor.

The cocker spaniel landed right on top of him smiling with the bone clenched in his mouth, tail wagging at several miles per hour. Catnap breathed a little heavily, trying to recover and catch his breath from having the wind knocked out of him.

“G-Good, good boy.” He says with a chuckle. The orange dog dropped the bone and before Catnap knew it he felt the rough slobbery tongue of his best friend lick his face making him laugh as the dog panted a little before taking to licking the cat boy’s face again.

The action made him laugh and wiggle around which only succeeded in receiving more licks from his friend on top of him. He heard him barking and felt him lick his face as he kicked his feet and tried fending off his attacker. Sadly his attempts ended with little to no avail.

“O-Okahay. I loavae yohohu. I love you.” He tells him through his laughter only getting a happy bark before receiving a few more laps with the tongue. Soon enough he slowed down and started panting again.

“Silly puppy.” He giggles before grabbing the bone. “If there’s a next time I’ll bring a ball for us to play with.” He tells him, grabbing the discarded bone and sitting up. Placing a paw on the cocker spaniel’s head and ruffling the fur on his head, his ears flopping around upon doing so.

“Alright…” He begins, getting to his feet. “Come on, let’s sit and relax a little after that.” He tells him, switching to holding the bone with his tail before walking up to Dogday’s sofa with the aforementioned boy wandering around on all fours nearby.

Catnap got onto the sofa and leaned on the armrest. Dogday, seeing this, looked at it, shook his butt a little to prepare, and jumped up beside him before padding up and sitting with the cat.

He smiles, laying himself down and allowing Dogday to take up the empty space. Putting a paw on the spaniel’s side the purple feline feels content like this. Beginning to purr a little as a result

But than a thought crossed his mind, he eyed the collar around his friend’s neck the small lights of which still glowing, signaling the collar was still on and allowing control over Dogday’s mind. Maybe he should’ve told him what would happen before turning it on, it was kind of against his will after all and they were friends.

He figured it was probably a good idea to let him out of his trance. Just had to hope he wouldn’t be too mad at him.

“Dogday.” He spoke, making the dog-brained boy look up at him, a giant smile on his face, tail thumping against Catnap’s leg. Before he could react Catnap got a quick “Woof!” and a face full of tongue. Once he was done he began happily panting.

A paw went to his head while he moved a little so his tail could snake behind Dogday’s head. The dog didn’t even notice as Catnap slithered his tail to the collar and clicked the button once again, causing the lights on the sides and the power of the collar to fade and go out

It took a moment for the dog's thoughts to dissipate from his head, but it did and soon his ability to think normally would be restored.

Shaking his head he looks around, now being freed from the mind control he was under. “Uh, what happened? I was standing over there a moment ago wasn’t I?” He says slowly, brain still coming back to reality. “Catnap?” He asks, noticing he was laying with his friend.

“You alright?” The cat boy asks, a slight hint of worry in his tone. Daydog gave a confused look, sitting up on his knees before answering. “Uh… yeah. Why do you ask Catnap?” He asks, trying to think about why he would but only for his mind to return a blank. The dog boy couldn’t remember anything that happened before he seemingly woke up. Everything was currently fuzzy at best.

“Y-You know the collar I gave you?” Catnap says slightly hesitant. At that the dog realized he still had the collar around his neck and looked down at it. “O-Oh, yeah I forgot about that.” He says, his fingers brushing it a little and the cheeks of the canine turning a faint pink. “What about it?”

“T-that collar is a…” He begins before pausing and moving to sit up himself making Dogday stand up. Once he was sitting on his legs he looked slightly downward, looking up at his friend before continuing.

“It’s a… It’s a mind control collar.” He admits, “What?” Dogday asks, surprise evident in his voice.

“The collar lets me control your mind.” He rephrased. Upon hearing that the dog’s fingers immediately went to the strap to loosen the accessory and take it off. Not wanting to have that happen again, accidentally or on purpose.

“I’m sorry…” He says, unsure of what to say and unable to think of anything else to say. His ears falling down.

“I-It’s okay, you could’ve told me that earlier though.” Dogday told him, trying to reassure him while undoing the collar and taking it off. His friend looked up at him, being surprised at the canine’s reaction.

“Y-You not mad at me?” He asks confusingly, he knew Dogday was forgiving to a fault sometimes but Catnap literally took control of his brain. He could’ve made him do anything at all and he couldn’t do anything to stop it.

“What? No I’m not… Well I am for you not telling me what this thing did before it happened.” He explains. “From what I remember though I did hit the activation button.” He adds to try and not make him feel bad for what he did.

Catnap’s ears rose a little “Yeah I guess, but I still didn’t tell you. I got carried away and broke your trust.” He tells him, sounding ashamed.

“I’m not going to deny that but you weren’t a bad kitty were you?” He asks, Catnap knew what he meant. He was wondering if he made him do anything bad or wrong.

He gave a quiet chuckle before responding “No, but that still doesn’t mean I couldn’t have. I could’ve really done something bad and you wouldn’t have a choice.” Catnap told him, he knew he shouldn’t just get off scot free for this.

“You and I both know that you would never do that.” Dogday tells him, putting his hand on his hip. The cat sighs and nods in agreement. “What did you even make me do?” He asks mainly out of curiosity.

“Got you to make me a sandwich and make you act like a normal dog.” He admits causing his best friend to giggle.

“Was I a good boy?” He jokingly asks in his giggling, his memories becoming somewhat clearer. Catnap laughs softly at his friend’s statement. “Yes.” He spoke. “We just played with your bone.” He told him, showing the bone wrapped in his tail.

“You have nothing to worry about Nap. Just as long as you tell me if you ever do this again, especially to me.” He assures him. The purple cat nods, knowing at least he wasn’t mad at him. “We could even do it again if you want too. With permission of course.” He adds, just to make sure he knew it wasn’t the mind control that he had the problem with.

“S-Sure. That’d be fun.” He mentions with a soft smile. “You could do it to me if you want too.” He adds. The canine looked at the collar in his hand, thinking if that was something he should do.

“Only if you want me too.” He told him, padding over and sitting himself beside him. Catnap lightly touched his crescent shaped charm around his neck. “Yeah, I kinda deserve it, and you deserve to try it out and have a little fun with it. Besides, it's your gift after all.” He tells him with a smile.

“Alright, you wanna do it now or-” He began but before he finished Catnap gave him a nod. “Okay, if you say so.” he says, he was given permission to do it now so… why not. He moves closer to the feline and holds up the collar. “How does this work?”

"When the collar is activated it'll numb me and clear my thoughts from my head. I think it connects to your brain or something” He explains. “Maybe I should ask Bubba, he knows sciencey stuff. But anyway, the first person I see I will follow without question.” He adds. That made sense to Dogday and the numbing thing was accurate from what he currently remembered.

“Alright, here it goes.” He says, putting the object around his neck and tightening it to make sure it works well. Once done Dogday hovers his finger over the activation button. “Any last words?” The cat thinks for a moment about this before giving his response

“Let’s have some fun.” He spoke with the giant smile all the smiling critters were known for. Dogday giggles and nods, giving the same smile to his feline friend before pressing the button. Turning on the lights on the collar and activating it.

Catnap could feel his body feeling tingly and going numb. His thoughts fading away and the ability to think for himself becoming harder and harder until it was soon impossible. Despite all of his thoughts having left him he felt himself being hit with a strange blissful happiness by the collar as he slipped into trance. Just like falling asleep, which he enjoyed a lot.

From the outside his eyes dull slightly and blankly stare at Dogday, his body frozen in place while his head fell silent. His mind and body awaiting his friend to say something.

Feeling it was about time to test if the thing was done and that it worked, Dogday spoke up. “Catnap, are you good?” He asks as a test although also to make sure his friend was okay.

“Yeah Dogday, I’m alright.” The cat confirms, at least it kept his voice semi-normal sounding. “What would you like me to do?”

The canine nods. “Alright than, let’s get started…”
