Summary
The fact of it is that Beckman loves him, all the way down to his core. He loves him, which is something he never thought he'd say and entirely mean it but here he is, two decades and counting into knowing the man, deeply and undeniably in love with him.
In another life Shanks would have still been his captain, and Beckman his steward. In another still, they could have been something else, but he can't bring himself to think of a universe where the two of them aren't intertwined and connected in any conceivable way.
