“Err, this movie isn’t funny.”
“You’re not giving it a chance, Man!!! Could you wait a sec, it just started!!”
Neither of the mooninites felt like driving, so they decided they’d just sit around and find something in Err’s packed DVD collection to watch for the night. Ignignokt had a different taste in movies than what Err did, and it was sort of apparent, because anytime they’d watch a movie, rarely would they get through the entire thing without one of them calling it boring.
Despite this, they’d always watch movies together, it was just their thing that they did.
Err just liked movies in general and was sort of a geek despite how much he denied it. Ignignokt didn’t like movies as much as his shorter friend did, but when there’s nothing else to do, he’d either watch one of Err’s picks or fall asleep while he rambles on about them.
The movie Err had on now was some 90’s movie, Ignignokt wasn’t paying attention when he told him the title. All he knew was that Jim Carrey was in it, which didn’t seem like a good sign, as Ignignokt wasn’t the kind of guy to usually find the man’s character roles humourous.
Ignignokt sighed and leaned further down on the arm of their couch covered in cigarette burns. “I don’t know how you always get me to agree to watch bad movies with you, Err.”
“IMDB ratings don’t speak for me, Man!” Err looked down at Ignignokt from where he was sitting. “This movie is the SHIT!!”
“That isn’t the point I’m trying to make. What I mean is that we could be doing anything now and somehow it always ends up this way, we end up watching movies you initially saw 12 years ago.”
Err laughed. “Maybe you’re attached to me or something, you can never just do anything on your own, you always gotta have ME tagging along!!”
Ignignokt reddened slightly, which nobody would’ve noticed except for anyone who knew him as well as Err did. “You’re acting like you weren’t the one attached to me by the hip ever since I met you.”
“Yeah, yeah, you know I’m just toooo irresistible.” Err smiled mischievously, turning his attention back to the movie.
Ignignokt slouched even more and sighed. He knew that he indeed was attached to Err, but he’d never admit it to anyone.
His life changed when he met the fuschia Mooninite, and the fear that he was truly in love with him grew stronger every second they were together.
Being attached to your best thing was one thing, but being in love with him was another, and that’s something that Igingnokt felt embarrassed about. He felt he’d just have to die with no closure on his feelings.
Hiding feelings from your best friend that you live with probably won’t be easy, he figured, if it slipped one day and Err hated him for it he’d immediately go back into that state of mind he had in high school before he met Err; depressed and lonely.
His thinking was interrupted by Err’s loud laughing, he turned over at the TV to see some weird Medieval Times segment of the movie.
Ignignokt was mostly confused, and turned to look at Err instead of the movie out of instinct.
“You saw that, right?!” Err said between laughs.
“Yes, Err, I saw.” He lied.
“No you didn’t, Man!!! If you saw, you’d be laughing!”
“Is it impossible to believe I just didn’t find it funny, Err?”
Err rolled his eyes and leaned back into the couch cushion. “Whatever man, we can do something else if ya want.”
Ignignokt sat up. “No, it’s fine, Err– if you’re enjoying it, I don’t mind sitting through it.”
Err looked at the green alien and smirked. “Why’re you being so obedient, Nokt?”
“What?” Ignignokt was taken aback, believing he had misheard what Err said.
“Ya were calling the movie boring before, I thought you’d jump at the opportunity to change it.”
“I never called it boring, Err, just unfunny. You were enjoying it, is it wrong to want my friend to enjoy himself?”
Err laughed maniacally. “Yeah, man, you sound like a fag, you want me to ENJOY MYSELF!!! HAH!”
“Quit being so immature, Err.”
“You’re right, you’re right, sorry.” He apologized, still laughing between words. “Pass me a cigarette, wouldya??”
Ignignokt shook his head, “Err, your blood pressure.”
“Quit carin’ about me, man!! I’ll be fine.”
“It’s too risky, Err. Do you really want to go out that way?” Ignignokt spoke in his same monotone voice.
Err groaned. “I’m tired anyway.”
“I doubt that. Finish your movie, Err.” Ignignokt said, grabbing a cigarette and lighter for himself from the table next to the couch.
“I will, just lemme grab a beer.”
This was the typical night for the two when they weren’t screwing around on Earth or messing with the plutonians, smoking, drinking, and a whole lot of nothing. Ignignokt didn’t care, as long as he was with Err, he didn’t care where they were or what they were doing, even though he had just complained about it.
No matter what he said, he always enjoyed watching movies with Err, just because it was him and Err.
Ignignokt lit his cigarette and took a drag. He heard the fridge door close, and back came Err with a brown bottle in his hand, taking a swig while sitting back down in his previously claimed spot.
The two sat drinking and smoking, not speaking a word.
Err was watching the movie, but Ignignokt was only pretending. He was looking at the screen, but his mind was elsewhere.
He wondered if telling Err of his feelings would be worth the risk, the risk of losing his only friend.
Part of him was trying to reason that he didn’t need to worry about it now, but the two were only getting older, and with that, he sat wondering when, if ever, would be a good time.
