Teaching the ways of happiness

Summary:

Seto asks, “system? Why exactly is it that Bodil has reappeared?”

The glowing screen in front of him flickers before a mechanical voice rings out, “The user had completed missions, and changed the story from a tragedy to a wholesome story.”

He’s about to cut the voice off until it continues.

“However, the happiness level of the character has fallen into the minus points.”

“Well I mean- wait what?”

“The user’s newest mission is to bring up happiness points to one hundred.”

“Excuse me!?”

Or: Seto did everything in his power to fullfuil the happiness of the only character he’s ever been attached to. Things do not go to plan even when finished.

Notes:

Firstly, this is inspired by SVSSS which I love deeply but not exactly similar. So while there is a system and such, this is not a beat for beat for SVSSS. Setodil’s relationship is not like BingQiu’s one but it will be unhealthy for a while.

Secondly this might not be updated every so often. The updates will be slow. Though this is one of the shorter fics I am trying to write.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

To tell this story, there must be a beginning.

Though it’s hard to say what the beginning was exactly. So let there be an explanation. In this world, there is one thing everyone wants to achieve: Godhood. To become a god is to be powerful, safe, and at the top of the world. You have responsibilities of great importance, are looked up to by the masses, praised, worshipped, and loved. So everyone from the rich to the poor wanted to acclaim such a role.

To become a god, one much train. Academically, physically, magically, or do something of importance. One must dedicate themselves to something or at least hold themselves to an ideal. Whatever is the case, by doing this only increases up your actions to become a god.

It is not full proof. Nobody knows what makes the heaven’s choose that person. Even if there’s a pattern, nobody is truly certain.

Gods can also fall though that will be explained soon enough.

Now that that basis has been explained, we’ll start with the teacher and his god.

Once there was a teacher. Known for being extremely intelligent, highly capable, and magically powerful. Wearing purples, greys, and reds; he was known as the Sorcerer of the World. He studied all topics in magic, memorised, all book titles, and even took on students to teach. Many whispered and looked up to him. So they all waited for him to be chosen. To be plucked from the earth to arrive at the heavens.

Except many years passed. He was never chosen.

Many worried, and one day a person asked him. Isn’t he upset that he isn’t a god? The answer he gave, surprised everyone.

“I do not want to become a god.”

This changed everyone’s opinion. Hopeful admiration becomes disappointed sighs to disgusting rumours. To be in his position only to not aim for godhood, how dreadful. Many called him ungrateful, and lazy. While these rumours died down, many still looked down on him. Though nobody ever denied his power or genius.

Then more years passed, and the sorcerer took on a new student.

This student was brilliant. Handsome, charming, brilliant with the sword, cunning, smart when needed, and took to everything with ease. Many praised the student. Many loved him dearly. His own teacher was greatly pleased. Telling him how amazing, and wonderful he was becoming. These praises only made the student do better. Helped everyone in needed, and always listened carefully to his teacher.

It’s only when the student asked his teacher, if he could become a god. His teacher gave him a cold answer.

“That is up to the heavens. Not my place to answer.”

The student was startled but decided to work harder. He wanted to become a god. In the next few months, the student grew even more powerful. So he asked his teacher again.

“I have no answer.”

The student felt frustrated. Deciding to take a year to travel. Wandering everywhere he could help people. Fighting bandits, evacuating during disasters, and even finding his ultimate weapon. The golden sword. Carved from thunder and lightning, he could use its magical properties. The student grew up and even stronger.

He came back and met his teacher once again. Asking him the same question.

His teacher gave an answer.

“No. You will never become a god.”

The student turned his back on his teacher, extremely upset at the lack of acknowledgment. Even if he never became a god, his teacher had changed. No letters on his journey, no praise for his growth, and having become extremely cold. Almost cruel to his student.

That last answer was the final straw. Especially when the public heard of the answer. They were outraged. Sending letters to the school where the sorcerer worked. Hoping to have him kicked out, which did happen. Many rejoiced at this action.

Until he was hired by a different school. Though during that time, the most amazing thing happened.

The student during a battle against a dragon of storms, was chosen by the heavens. Sent into the clouds and given great power. He came back down as the god of cunning and lightning. Striking down the dragon. Becoming a hero to the masses. Everyone celebrated.

The student became a god.

The teacher became hated.

That is how the story is told.

This is how the world became… until many years later.

The beginning of this story.
