Chapter Text
“Words are inherently useless.” A humanoid creature says. They’re sitting in a lawn chair, laid back on the sand and dressed in a horrendous mix of clothes. A white tank top covered by a red ‘hawaiian’ shirt with white flowers and with pink highlights, they’re also wearing beige shorts with too many pockets. The genderless being is holding a book effortlessly despite it matching the weight of an entire world and next to them is a side table holding a teacup, a small straw sticking out of it. Leaning against that table is a plain steel sword freshly cleaned and polished.
The creature takes a sip of the tea as the being sitting in the sand on their opposite side clicks their tongue. “Urrgh, Balance.” They grumble. “You’re using them now aren’t you? And reading them? How are they useless?”
The creature named Balance puts down the cup and turns to stare down at the other figure. Their sibling can never decide on the ‘perfect’ form for themselves, but it seemed that today they were content with their usual. A thin white cloak draped from their shoulders the whole length of their body, overshadowed by a transparent black fabric that stopped at their knees. Over their face like usual was a mask that hid their features(for the safety of mortals they said), it was white in color extending down to their jaw and ending in sharp teeth. The only deviation was a pair of antler decorations they placed on it.
“Because you know we don’t need to use them? We created and discovered sounds and emotions from scratch, why would we need to use something to convey ideas that we can just know if we wanted.”
The massive black wings on the others back flare, puffing in slight agitation. The stars hidden in between the feathers spin and the stardust that’s mixed between the miniature galaxies sprinkle to the sand. The white iris of their eyes are suddenly split in half as they glare at Balance.
“But that’s for us , Balance. Mortal creatures use words and language of all sorts to communicate! If we just cut them off suddenly I’m sure a lot of things would be upended.”
“You’re only saying that because you created an entire race based on the law of word Order. Isn’t the form you’re using the one you used to base their entire physical form on?”
“That’s not the-!”
Whatever the second being was going to say is cut off by a third being popping into existence suddenly. This isn’t an uncommon occurrence, they’re literally just a bundle of energy and chaos. It’s normal for them to just appear and join the conversation. This time however, they came dragging something new with them.
“Balance! Look! I brought you a new creature!”
Above the amalgamation of a being is another amalgamation of a being. It’s clear it’s made to live in the ocean, like the many creatures they’ve given Balance before, but it just seems massively oversized.
The other two beings look at each other with matching expressions. Chaos wants attention.
“Thank you Chaos.” Balance calls out before putting the book down, not bothering with a bookmark since they'll know the page anyway. “Just throw-”
They don’t get the chance to finish before the eldritch abomination is thrown into the water with a gigantic splash.
“..it into the water..”
Chaos appears on the beach with a popping sound, something resembling a sharp grin spreading across what could be considered their face. “Now that I have your atten-!”
“NOT IT!” Balance calls out, and instantly pushes the other beings out of their world. There’s a brief moment where they swear they heard Chaos say something about a world bubble but they’re not exactly sure, they weren’t really paying attention. They didn’t feel like entertaining the chaotic being today.
Letting out a mock breath, they tip their head back against the chair and stare up at the sky. A perfect blue sky with nary a cloud in sight. They frown, and then correct it. A few clouds is nice. The being smiles, then hums and closes their eyes.
Their realm is always a nice place to be cut off momentarily from their responsibilities. They don’t have much, despite being something powerful enough to just think away the world around them, but it’s still a nice respite. They sink into the chair and let their mind fall into something resembling a nap.
Then they feel the air shift around them, suddenly changing in purity and scent. The sound of the ocean waves is still there, the smell of the sea air is still there, but now there’s a hint of something else. He sits up, then stops as his eyes open. Sure, as a formless being he can change his gender at will, but by will. He’s never accidentally done it, and now he’s referring to himself as he.
Of course, that’s not as confusing as suddenly facing an unfamiliar ocean. In front of him is a vast expanse of blue water with rock formations that seem to resemble.. Dragons? Incense sticks? He can’t really tell but that’s what they look like.
In the distance is a landmass that looks to have buildings on it, and at his feet are seashells and rocks. He would never include rocks on his beach. The sand doesn’t even look right, and everything around him seems to be infused with some kind of power. When trying to manipulate it, it refuses his call.
He grabs his teacup and sips until it’s empty. Acknowledging that he’s been moved without knowing what moved him or how they did it is easy, but the subtle panic that starts to encroach on his mind is something he doesn’t like the idea of. His siblings are the things keeping him sentient. Alive. Without them he’ll fall into a sleep state until they return. He’ll dissipate into nothing but the thin line that makes up him.
He blinks and opens his eyes. The world in front of him unfolds. ‘Who is the most chill person here?’ he thinks. ‘Who has the power to come looking for me if I send a message?’
Balance looks over the area around him, and when he finds no one truly important other than a red scaled lady he expands his search and finds something truly fascinating. He’s not in a realm or on a planet. He’s on a giant ship the size of a planet, with bubbles on the surface that hold lives aboard. And it’s sailing through space.
“Well…” He wonders, “at least I know who to look for.” A ship should have a captain right?
His search takes a little longer than he’d like, but he does find someone that looks important. A large man is sitting in a side room of a pretty important looking building, seeing as the only way to get to it is by those flying ships. He has white hair so he has to be old, but then Balance sees his face and backpedals. He just has white hair.
The man has a stack of papers off to the side, and- Oh, neat. Perfect. He’s pouring himself a glass of tea. Balance wastes no time in quickly writing a note on a little sticky note, and as soon as the man turns to set down the teapot he pulls the tea into his own cup and leaves the note in its place.
Balance chuckles at the surprise that springs on the man's features before closing his eyes. The being sips on his new tea and blinks in surprise.
“Oh this is good. I’m definitely stealing more if he takes too long.”
The flicker of some sort of connection springs to life in his chest, startling him. He manages to prevent the tea from spilling over his shirt, but he can’t save the straw. He ignores it in favor of feeling out the new weird connection and finds.. Chaos.
The tension in his shoulders disappears with the wind. Thank Divinity. Balance smiles and relaxes, continuing to sip his new drink. With someone hopefully on their way to save him from the predicament he’s in and a confirmed notion that one of his siblings is alive, he’s content to just keep doing what he wanted before. He knows that with the arrival of one sibling, the other will follow; they’re inseparable after all.
Balance returns to his relaxation, now listening to the new ocean and the song of unfamiliar wind and power. Waiting is what he’s good at.
