Work Text:

Tim sighed as he looked around the store for the twentieth time in the last hour. Colorful costumes hung from every corner, flickering decorations danced in the glow of twinkling lights, and the buzz of excited children filled the space. Tim adjusted the baby carrier on his chest, ensuring little Angie was snug and secure, before turning to his daughter, who was wide-eyed with wonder at the endless rows of costumes.

“Okay, Zoe,” he said, kneeling to her level. “How about this one?” He held up a sparkling blue Cinderella dress, the tiara shimmering like stars against the bright fabric. Lucy was home enjoying some alone time post baby, so it was up to Tim to help their daughter pick a costume.

Zoe wrinkled her nose, her brows furrowing in disappointment. “No, Daddy! I wore that one last year!”

Tim couldn’t help but smile, even as a playful sigh escaped him. “Alright, let’s try this!” He gestured to a bright pink dress that twirled enticingly. “It’s different!”

She glanced at it, then down at her shoes, her fingers fiddling with the hem of her sweater. “It’s still a princess dress,” she murmured.

Tim chuckled, ruffling her hair playfully. “C’mon, sweetie. Halloween is just around the corner! We need to figure this out. How about something spooky, like a witch or a pirate?”

For a brief moment, Zoe’s eyes sparkled at the thought of pirates, but then the excitement faded as she scanned the store, her shoulders drooping in frustration. “I don’t know, Daddy. I can’t decide.”

Tim could see the indecision weighing on her, and it tugged at his heart. “How about this? Let’s take a break. We can grab lunch with your tia Angela, and then come back. Maybe a little food will help you think of something fun.”

Zoe sighed but nodded, her fingers reaching for his hand. “Okay,” she said, her spirit brightening just a little.

“Great! I know she’s been wanting to see you,” Tim replied, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze as they made their way toward the exit. “We can brainstorm some ideas over a burger.”

As they stepped back out into the crisp autumn air, Zoe smiled up at him, her earlier frustration fading. “Maybe I can be a pirate after all!”

Tim chuckled, excitement bubbling up inside him. “Yeah! And ice cream too!” She added, yes she was very much her mother’s daughter. With Zoe’s hand securely in his, they headed off, ready to tackle the day together.

As they entered the cozy diner, the warm glow of yellow lights and the comforting scent of fresh coffee wrapped around them. The soft hum of conversation filled the air, mixing with the clinking of dishes and laughter from nearby tables. Zoe’s eyes widened at the sight of her favorite spot, and her excitement bubbled over.

“There’s Tia Angela!” Zoe squealed, spotting her aunt sitting at a booth, flipping through a menu. Without waiting for Tim, she took off, her little legs propelling her forward.

“Hey! Watch out!” Tim called after her, chuckling as he hurried to catch up.

Angela looked up just in time to see Zoe barreling toward her. With a delighted smile, she knelt down and opened her arms wide. Zoe launched herself into her aunt’s embrace, giggling as Angela caught her effortlessly.

“How’s my favorite girl?” Angela asked, her voice warm and playful as she twirled Zoe around for a moment before setting her back down.

“I missed you, Tia!” Zoe beamed, her face lighting up.

Tim finally caught up, catching his breath as he leaned against the booth. “You can’t keep saying that now that this one is here,” he said, nodding toward the baby carrier on his chest.

Angela shot him a mock glare. “Oh, hush! She’s still my little girl, and my first god daughter, she has certain rights you know!”

Tim rolled his eyes, unable to suppress a smile. “Yeah, right.”

“Come on, give me my name sake,” Angela demanded, her eyes sparkling with affection. She helped Zoe into a chair at the booth before reaching out for Angie.

Tim hesitated, a grin still on his face. “You know, I’m pretty attached to her too,” he said, pretending to cradle the baby tighter.

“Please?” Angela pouted, her expression shifting to one of playful desperation. “I need some baby cuddles with my little one

With a dramatic sigh, Tim relented, carefully unbuckling the baby carrier. “Fine, but you better give her back in one piece!” He handed Angie over, watching as Angela cradled her with the same love she’d always shown Zoe.

“Don’t worry, I’m a pro at this,” Angela assured him, bouncing Angie gently in her arms. “Now, you sit down and order something. I’ve got this!”

Zoe watched her aunt with wide, adoring eyes, and Tim couldn’t help but smile at the sight. In that moment, all the stresses of the day melted away. Tim slid into the booth across from Zoe.

“So, what do you want for lunch?” he asked, looking over the menu while keeping an eye on Angela and Angie.

“Can we get some fries?” Zoe suggested, her eyes bright with anticipation.

“Of course,” Tim agreed, already imagining the crispy goodness. “Fries it is. And maybe a milkshake?”

“Yay! I love milkshakes!” Zoe giggled, her excitement infectious as they settled in for a cozy lunch together.

Angela gently rocked Angie in her arms, her eyes sparkling with curiosity as she turned to Zoe. “So, what have you two been up to today?” she asked, her tone warm and inviting.

Zoe’s face lit up. “We went to the Halloween store!” she exclaimed, her little hands animated as she spoke. “But I couldn’t decide what I wanted to be.”

“What?! No costume yet?!” Angela feigned shock, a playful gasp escaping her lips. “You’re running out of time, kiddo! What were you thinking?”

Zoe’s excitement bubbled over again as she began to explain. “I wanted to be a princess, but I was a princess last year. And then I thought about being a pirate, but I don’t know… I just can’t decide!” She looked up at Angela, her big eyes full of hope.

Angela grinned, her mind racing with ideas. “How about this? Since we have a new little sister now, why don’t you be Bluey? And maybe do a family costume.”

Tim shot Angela a playful glare, raising an eyebrow at his best friend. “Oh, come on! You want me to wear a dog costume? What are you trying to do to me?”

Zoe, however, was thrilled by the idea. “That’s perfect, Tia!” she squealed, clapping her hands in delight. “I love Bluey! And Angie can be Bingo! Mommy will be Chili, and daddy, you’ll be the best Bandit ever!”

Angela leaned forward, a cheeky grin on her face. “Just think about it. You could rock that costume. Bandit is basically the coolest dad in the whole world! Plus, you’d get to show off your dad skills!” She was completely teasing him.

Tim couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking his head at the playful banter. “Great, now I’ll be known as the dad who dresses like a cartoon dog,” he teased, a smile creeping onto his face despite himself.

Zoe was beaming with excitement. “And we can all have a Bluey dance party!” she added, her eyes sparkling with joy.

Angela nodded enthusiastically. “Exactly!”

Tim watched as the two of them bounced ideas off each other, feeling warmth settle in his chest. He was grateful for Angela, always able to lift Zoe’s spirits and create fun moments like this.

“Okay, okay,” Tim relented, still chuckling. “If you really think it’ll be fun, I guess I can give it a shot. But only is mommy agrees,” he added.

“Deal!” Zoe cheered, bouncing in her seat, her excitement infectious.

As they continued to chat about their Bluey-themed Halloween, Tim felt a sense of calm wash over him. With Angela by their side and a new adventure on the horizon, he knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they could face them together as a family.

When they finally got home, the inviting scent of popcorn wafted through the air. Lucy was sprawled comfortably on the couch, her hair slightly messy but her smile bright as she munched on a bowl of popcorn. She looked up just as Zoe came barreling into the living room, her excitement spilling over.

“Mommy! Mommy!” Zoe cried, practically bouncing on her toes. “You won’t believe what I’m gonna be for Halloween!”

Lucy set the bowl down and sat up, her interest piqued. “Okay, tell me!”

“I’m going to be Bluey!” Zoe announced, her eyes wide with joy. “And Angie is going to be Bingo, and Daddy is going to be Bandit! Isn’t that the best?”

Lucy’s face lit up with amusement. “Oh my goodness! That’s adorable!” she exclaimed, her heart swelling with pride. “You’re going to be the cutest Bluey ever!”

Zoe beamed at her mother’s approval. “And we’re going to have a dance party!” she added, twirling around in excitement.

“Sounds like a blast! I can’t wait to see your costume,” Lucy replied, feeling her own excitement building.

“Okay, I’m gonna go try it on right now!” Zoe said, her energy surging as she dashed off to her room.

As the little girl scampered away, Lucy turned her gaze to Tim, who was leaning against the doorframe, a playful smirk on his face. “You know, you might just be the silliest Bandit out there,” she teased, crossing her arms and giving him an exaggerated look of mock seriousness.

Tim rolled his eyes but couldn’t hide his grin. “Yeah, well, at least I’m not the one who has to wear a dog ears,” he shot back, laughing.

“Oh, come on! You’ll pull it off,” Lucy replied, her laughter ringing through the room. “Just embrace it!”

Tim chuckled, then reached into the bag they had brought home from the store. “Here, I believe this is yours,” he said, handing her a small package containing her Chili costume. “I wouldn’t be laughing too hard if I were you.”

Lucy took the package with a playful flourish. “Oh, I’ll be the best Chili there ever was,” she teased back, holding it up triumphantly. “Just you wait and see!”

Tim stepped closer, his expression softening as he looked at her. “I have no doubt you’ll be amazing,” he said, the warmth in his voice making her heart flutter.

“Let’s just hope Zoe doesn’t outshine us all,” Lucy joked, already imagining their family Halloween as she playfully nudged Tim.

Just then, Zoe burst back into the living room, her Bluey costume on, complete with floppy ears and a blue tail. “Look, Mommy! Look, Daddy!” she exclaimed, her face alight with happiness.

Tim and Lucy turned to her, their smiles widening as they took in the sight of their daughter. In that moment, surrounded by love and laughter, they felt their little family growing stronger with every passing day.

Tim stood in the break room of the station, a wave of embarrassment washing over him as he adjusted the floppy blue dog ears perched atop his head. He couldn’t believe he was wearing a full Bluey onesie, complete with a tail at work. This was not exactly the reputation he had built as a serious officer, and he felt a little ridiculous.

“Who am I kidding?” he muttered under his breath, glancing around the room to see if anyone was watching. Thankfully, most of his colleagues were too busy with the chaos of the annual Halloween candy handout to pay him any mind.

Lucy had insisted they bring the kids to the station, and Tim had agreed because, really, who was he to deny his girls their fun? Watching Zoe dance around the desks, her little blue tail swaying in rhythm with her moves, made the embarrassment a little easier to bear. She was in her element, charming everyone with her infectious energy.

“Look! This is my baby sister, Angie!” Zoe declared, holding her arms out in a dramatic gesture as she introduced her to the officers. Angie was strapped to Lucy’s chest in a soft Bingo onesie, her big eyes peeking out at everyone with a sleepy curiosity. Tim’s heart swelled as he watched his family interact with the rest of the station.

Just then, Angela’s laughter echoed through the break room, piercing through his thoughts. He turned to see her doubled over, a wide grin plastered on her face as she caught sight of him. “Tim, oh my gosh! You look fantastic!” she teased, her voice dripping with playful sarcasm.

Tim rolled his eyes, attempting to muster some dignity despite the playful jabs. “Yeah, well, it’s all for the kids, right?” he replied, trying to sound nonchalant, but the blush creeping up his cheeks betrayed him.

Angela stepped closer, a mischievous glint in her eye. “I mean, if you were going for ‘most embarrassing dad of the year,’ you’ve totally nailed it. I didn’t think you could pull off the dog look quite like that!”

“Thanks, Angela,” Tim said dryly, trying to hide a smile. “I’m glad to know my humiliation is providing you with some entertainment.”

“Hey, it’s not every day we get to see Sergeant Bradford dressed like a cartoon dog,” she retorted, laughter bubbling up again. “You’re going to be the talk of the station for weeks!”

Tim sighed, pretending to be exasperated. “You’re supposed to be on my side, you know.”

Angela just shook her head, still giggling. “This is way too good.”

As Zoe twirled in front of her audience, proudly presenting her sister to everyone, Tim couldn’t help but let out a laugh. Maybe he was a little embarrassed, but seeing his daughter so happy made it worth it. “Alright, alright,” he relented, crossing his arms and leaning back against the counter. “Just keep your camera phone away from me, and I’ll consider it a win.”

With the laughter and joy surrounding him, Tim realized that no amount of embarrassment could take away from the happiness of being with his family. Even in a silly onesie, he felt grateful to be part of their world, a world filled with love and laughter.
As Tim continued to bask in the laughter of the station, he felt a familiar warmth approach him. Lucy strolled over, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she took in the sight of her husband in his Bluey getup.

“Hey, where’s Angie?” Tim asked, glancing around as he searched for their baby girl.

“Oh, she was stolen by the sergeant,” Lucy replied playfully, a teasing grin spreading across her face. “He wanted to see if she’d make a good future officer.”

Tim let out a light laugh, shaking his head. “I hope he knows how to handle our baby. She can be quite a handful.”

Lucy stepped closer, wrapping her arms around him and leaning into his side. “So, are you having a good time?” she asked, her voice softening as she looked up at him.

Tim smiled down at her, the corners of his mouth lifting in genuine happiness. “I actually am,” he admitted, glancing over at Zoe as she danced her way to another desk, laughter trailing behind her.

“You’re such a good dad,” Lucy said, her eyes shining with affection.

“I try,” he replied, shrugging modestly.

Lucy leaned in closer, her voice playful yet sincere. “No, really, how many dads would dress up like a blue dog for their ambitious six-year-old? You’re pretty special, you know.”

Tim chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief at the silliness of the situation. “I’d do anything for her. For all of you,” he confessed, the sincerity in his tone hitting home.

Lucy’s expression softened, and she reached up to cup his cheek. “I know,” she said softly, before leaning in and kissing him gently.

In that moment, everything else faded away—the costumes, the teasing, and the laughter. All that mattered was the warmth of her kiss and the love they shared as a family. Tim pulled back slightly, looking deep into her eyes. “Yeah, I can put up with the stupid costumes as long as I get to keep my girls happy.”

Her smile radiant as she squeezed him tighter. “And you’re doing an amazing job at it.”

With Zoe’s laughter echoing around them and Lucy nestled against his side, Tim felt a sense of contentment wash over him. No matter how silly things got, he wouldn’t trade these moments for anything in the world.
