Chapter Text

Mk wasn't exactly doing the best. I mean how could he be? He’d admit he didn't have the best way of handling his trauma, according to Sandy anyway. Usually he would just say he was fine, laugh it off and change the subject. This time that wasn't going to fly, not a chance. While almost dying was something Mk experienced alot this was the first time he tried to - how could he put this - activity try and put himself in that position.

He didn't know how to move on. It had been 2 weeks since the whole thing went down. He’d barely left his room. He didn't talk to anyone. The only interaction he really had was when Pigsy brought him food. Of course it felt horrible to not talk to anyone, but how could you face someone after doing something like that? He was scared, scared to see the disappointing and pitiful looks on their faces, scared of what they might say to him, scared of how they would see him.

Each of his friends' faces shot through his mind. Mei who he neglected, Sandy who he pushed away, Pigsy who he ignored, Tang who he blocked out, Macaque who he fought, and Monkey King.

Out of all Mk’s companions Monkey King was the one he failed the most. Still the Great Sage had the nerve to comfort his successor when everything was over and done with. All his friends had got together and thrown a party for him. Monkey King had sat with him like there wasn't so much unsaid between the two of them. Mk had felt the quiet tension between himself and his mentor. The pair had not spoken since the get together of FFM.

So here was the “great” hero of earth in his room, lying on his bed hiding from his own family. Empty and despair were the feelings that consumed the Monkie Kid. He could go to sleep again, but he’d be woken up by a nightmare. If he stayed awake he’d have to deal with his dumb thoughts. Mk could feel tears of frustration prickle in the corner of his eyes, leaking down across his face and onto his pillow.

The boy could feel his breath get uneven. Mk sat up from his laying potion to try to focus on his breathing. Instead he was met with a familiar tick inside of him.

“No no no, not now” he whispered aloud

Tick

He was flickering between monkey and human. It hurt so, so bad

Tick

His breath became more uneven. Short and shallow breaths escaping the boy.

Tick

He was standing on that cliff again, his mentor screams coming from behind him.

Tick

The sky was cracking and breaking apart again.

Tick

He couldn't breathe, why couldn't he breathe. Mk sat fully up now, hand on his chest gripping his shirt to try and ground himself. A choking sob escaped the boy.

TICK

Everything was closing in around him, he couldn't speak every time he tried more sobs escaped him. Why couldn't it all just stop, hadn't he been through enough? Claws started digging into his skin. Finally after what felt like an entanty the distressed boy was able to cry out a loud, broken gut wrecking scream.

Blots of power shot out from Mk, destroying everything they touched. A series of loud cracks and booms could be heard from the raw power that just escaped him. Mk shut his eyes and covered his ears. When the noise finally stopped, the child peaked his eyes open. Looking around the room it looked like a tornado had gone through it. Almost everyone of Mk’s belongings was either in pieces or thrown around the room.

The only thing that seemed to be spared was his bed, which he was still sitting on. Mk looked around at the mess he made panting as he gazed.

God he really fucked up this time.

“Mk what was that?!” He heard Pigsy shout, followed by hurrying footsteps up the stairs to his room.

Panic seeped into Mk, what would Pigsy think when he saw him like this? He completely destroyed his room! He needed to get away from here quickly. Thinking fast MK jumped out his newly broken window and transformed into a bird. He could hear his door swing open as he flew away. Mk tried not to look back, tired to ignore Pigsys begging him to come back.

He should just leave for good. Pigsy is better off, everyone was better off without him.

Mk didn't know how long he flew but he did until he physically couldn't anymore. He flew until his wings gave way along with his powers. The Monkie Kid came plummeting down to earth at an alarming speed. Crashing through trees for what felt like forever before finally landing hard on the ground, no one to catch him this time.

Mk laid in shock for a moment, he had just fallen at least 20 feet. Not feeling any immediate pain, the boy tried to get up. A poor decision because as soon as he tried to move he felt an aching pain in his ribs. His head started spinning, dark spots were filling his field of vision. He was also starting to find it difficult to breathe, like something was pushing on his lungs keeping him from inhaling and exhaling all the way. Definitely messed up something with that fall.

Looking closer at himself, many scratches and rips along his arms, clothes, and legs. Must have been the branches when he fell, he also vividly remembered digging into his skin with his claws back at his apartment.

Wait, claws? Mk thought as finally noticed he was in his monkey form. Choosing to ignore that right now, he decided to observe his surroundings.

Where was he anyway? All that could be seen around him was a deep forest. Mk tried to take another step forward but his body would let him. He was too emotionally and physically exhausted and hurt to continue moving any longer.

Making the final decision the successor decides to prop himself up against a tree trunk. As the boy's mind somehow pulls him deep into an unwanted sleep, the last feeling Mk registers is one of complete and utter despair.
