A South Down's Halloween

Summary:

Exactly as the title says. This is Aziraphale and Crowley’s first Halloween together and they are going to make the most of it between costumes, horror movies, and handing out candy to the children wandering the streets.

This is going to be extremely fluffy and take place in the South Downs. I will not be bringing up the final 15 of season 2, as I just want this to be chill and sweet, no angst.

Notes:

Hello! I hope you enjoy this quick fic that I wanted to write in honor of my favorite fictional couple and holiday (Halloween is a holiday, you can fight me on that). I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it.

For some reason, my hands didn't want to type correctly, so I do apologize for any spelling errors.

This work was fueled by Hozier.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Humming, Crowley moved around the small kitchen with ease. The sweet smell of cookies and pie wafted through the house, adding to the wonderful fall environment around the cottage.

Carefully, he pulled the pumpkin cookies out of the oven, leaving the apple pie to continue baking. Setting the cookie sheet on the counter, Crowley smiled at his work, he knew that his Angel would love these. Aziraphale always loved it when Crowley baked for him.

Walking to the front door, Crowley gently pushed it open, looking for Aziraphale outside.

“Angel!” He called, not seeing him anywhere. “Where are you?”

“Oh, hello dear boy.”

Stepping outside and looking to the roof, Crowley saw Aziraphale on the roof of the cottage, stringing up purple, black, and orange lights along the top of their house.

“For Someone’s sake Aziraphale, what the hell are you doing up there?” Crowley asked worriedly. The roof was steep and he didn’t want to see his Angel get hurt.

“What does it look like I’m doing, Dear?” Aziraphale replied, nonchalantly, continuing to attach the lights. “I’m decorating. It is Halloween you know.”

Of course, Crowley had thought to himself. It had completely slipped his mind. There were too many human holidays to keep up with in his opinion.

Sighing, Crowley cocked his head at the Angel above him, watching him work for a moment. The sunlight that streamed in behind him really made his love look ethereal on the roof.

“You know, Angel,” Crowley began, getting his plan together to get Aziraphale off the roof, “I have some fresh cookies in the kitchen. I don’t suppose you’ll want any…” He trailed off, knowing that Aziraphale would drop anything he was doing to enjoy what Crowley had made.

“Why, of course I want some. Just give me one moment Dear.”

Gingerly, Aziraphale walked over to the ladder on the other side of the roof and climbed down it into Crowley’s waiting arms. Pulling his husband into a tight hug, the two just enjoyed the blissful moment in each others arms.

~~~
“C’mon Angel, it’ll be fun,” Crowley begged, holding a bag in his hand.
“No, no. Absolutely not.”
Crowley was attempting to get his husband to dress in a Halloween costume for tonight. The pair had planned on handing out candy to the trick or treaters tonight, so when Crowley went to pick up candy, he had spotted two perfect costumes for the pair and bought them as well.
“Oh, have a bit of fun Aziraphale. I bought it specifically for you and I to dress up for the kids tonight. You don’t want to disappoint the children do you? I mean, beautifully decorated house with the owners not wearing any costumes, it’d be such a disappointment to them.”
“You underhanded serpent,” sighing, Aziraphale grabbed the bag from Crowley. “Fine, I will wear it. Only for the children and because I love you so much.”
The duo walked off with their bags to change and Crowley couldn’t wait to see Aziraphale’s costume on him, or more likely his reaction to it.
Quickly pulling on his costume, he soon heard an angry knock at the door.
“Anthony J Crowley,” Aziraphale said, anger twinged in his voice. “What is the meaning of this costume?”
Opening the door, Crowley was greeted with his Angel dressed in a red suit with a small pair of horns adorned on his head. A chuckle left his mouth as he saw ‘Mr. Heaven’s Best Angel’ dressed as a demon.
“I’m an angel, Crowley. Why would you have me dress as the Devil?”
“Don’t worry Angel, I gave myself the same treatment.”
Aziraphale had finally gotten a good look at Crowley’s costume. It was a white dress with a golden band that wrapped around his head. His husband, the original tempter and serpent of Eden, had dressed himself as an angel.
“Good lord, my Dear.”
“No returns Angel,” Crowley gloated, a smile plastered on his face. “The store doesn’t allow them once it’s been opened.”
~~~

“Come here Dear,” Aziraphale waved Crowley over to the couch. “It’s starting, my love.”

Setting the cookies he had baked earlier in front of them, Crowley sat down next to Aziraphale, letting his Angel wrap his arm around him.

“So, what are we watching, Angel?” Crowley asked. This was their first proper Halloween together and the angel was going all out with the decorating and activities, including horror movies.

“It’s a movie called the Conjuring. It’s quite popular from what I’ve heard.”

Humming, Crowley leaned into Aziraphale, snuggling into the plush angel, as he pulled up a blanket onto their laps and focused on the movie in front of them.

“A show made by humans,” Crowley commented. “I’m a demon, how scary can it be?”

~~~
Crowley had severely underestimated how scary movies could be.
“Are you sure you’re all right dear?” Aziraphale asked. This was the fifth time that Crowley had been scared by the movie, leaving him to resort to burrowing into Aziraphale’s arms and pulling up the blanket that had covered the two of them.
“I’m fine, Angel,” Crowley denied. “I’m a demon, nothing can scare me.”
Aziraphale looked down at his husband burrowed into his arms and a small smile crossed his face.
“Of course, Dear. I’m a bit scared, so why don’t you hold onto me? For me to feel safer of course.”
Nodding, Crowley pulled his Angel closer to him and listened to the steady sound of his love’s heartbeat, letting the sound soothe him as he continued to watch the film.
~~~

Ripping open the oversized bag of candy, Aziraphale poured it into the large bowl he had found from the kitchen. It was a simple red plastic one, but it was the perfect size to hold all of the candy that Crowley had bought earlier that day.

“Are you ready, Dear?” He asked the demon who had just walked into the kitchen, wearing his costume.

The sun had finally set and the couple could already hear the children outside on the streets. Their laughter and screams echoed down the road and into the surround forest. It was the sound of childhood and happiness, of innocence and life. It was a sound that the pair was sure that they would never get enough of.

“Of course, Angel. I can’t wait to see the little hellions.”

A sudden knock brought smiles to both of their faces and they raced to the door. Crowley opened it and looked out onto the porch, seeing a small group of children standing there.

“Trick or treat!” A young voice yelled, holding out a bag for candy.

“Well,” Aziraphale commented, “Aren’t you just adorable. What are you supposed to be?” He asked.

“I’m the Doctor,” one boy responded. “The tenth doctor specifically, he’s my favorite.”

“And I’m Rose Tyler,” the blonde girl next to him answered.

Chuckling, Crowley scooped a large handful of candy from the bowl and placed it into the child’s bag.

“Happy Halloween sir!” The boy yelled, running to the street and moving on to the next house.

Shutting the door, Crowley looked at Aziraphale. All of his love and adoration for the angel evident on his face.

“Happy Halloween, Angel. I love you.”

“Happy Halloween, my Dear. I love you too.”
