Chapter 1: HAKUREI SENDAI

Chapter Text

Hakurei Sendai

Overview

Sendai Hakurei is the first-generation Hakurei Miko and the adoptive mother of Hakurei [Adoro] Reimu along and a mother figure to Bofeng Adoro [Hakurei] {Ultraman Rebirth}. Known as the “Thousand-Year-Old Lady,” she stood out for her muscular build, unarmed combat style, and spiritual bond with Ascended Gamera, a guardian kaiju.

In the present, she is recognized as one of the matriarchs of the Hakurei-Adoro family, alongside Junko [Kamen Rider Vengeance] and Makto Adoro. Living together in the Hakurei Shrine located on a hill at the eastern border of Gensokyo.

Between Makto’s compassion, Sendai’s strength, and Junko’s quiet resolve, they formed a triad as unyielding as any barrier spell. sharing a bond that balanced duty, affection, and the weight of eternity.

Appearance

Sendai Hakurei is a tall, muscular shrine maiden built like a warrior, with defined abs, strong arms, and thick thighs. Her body is covered in scars, but the ones on her bare shoulders and the deep half-scar on the left side of her face are the most well-known.

Her long black hair is unkempt, wild from years of conflict, with several strands—if not most—faded pale from stress and age. A single ahoge sticks out, a strangely persistent flicker of personality beneath her hardened, battle-scarred shell.

She wears a high-collared black leotard as her base layer, showing off her arms. Over it is a sleeveless red top, tied with a red knot tightly.

Her red hakama pants flow freely, allowing easy movement, while white detached sleeves hang from her arms, stained and worn from years of use. On her feet are white tabi socks and red-strapped sandals—one of the few traditional elements she still keeps.

Personality

Sendai Hakurei is a mix of old battle scars and new joy. Once silent and hardened by centuries of war, she’s now expressive, energetic, and emotionally open—thanks to the chaotic, loving influence of her family.

She doesn’t talk a lot, but when she does, her words are either whimsical or dry humor (probably picked up from Junko). Most of the time, she communicates through body language—big gestures, exaggerated reactions, and strong hugs. She's easy to read and doesn't bother hiding what she feels.

Sendai is autistic in her own way: focused, routine-loving, deeply emotional, and sensitive to the little things. She is a big fan of Tokusatsu.

History

    Primordial Bond - Paleolithic Era

Long before words, fire, or shrines… there was only survival. Sendai was not “Sendai” then, but an unnamed woman—an “evolved” Paleolithic cavewoman whose instincts and spirit far outpaced her kin. She lived in a brutal world where kaiju were gods, storms had voices, and death came on enormous wings.

It was in this age of chaos that she met Gamera, a towering turtle kaiju born from the ocean’s will to protect life. The woman, alone and feral, approached the Guardian Mother of Seas not with fear but with hunger—for strength, for fire, for meaning.

Their bond was forbidden, unnatural. No human had ever befriended a kaiju before. Yet through trial, blood, and mutual respect, the woman and beast became as one—guardian and ward, equals across species.

The First Miko - Late Jōmon Period

Centuries passed. The woman’s body no longer aged as it should; her bond with Gamera had changed her, slowing her mortality and awakening spiritual senses unknown to her kind.

As Paleolithic tribes evolved into Jōmon villages, lesser kaijus, kaijins and youkais were drawn to human settlements. The sages and shamans of these early people could not stop them alone.

The woman—now a living relic of a bygone age—was chosen to become something new:

The Hakurei Miko, a mediator between humans, kaiju, and spirits.

It was during one such wandering that a gap split reality open, and from it stepped a Yakumo, proposing a purpose for the Hakurei Miko.

Under the Gap Youkai’s mentorship, the woman learned to channel her raw power and spiritual senses into refined barrier techniques. With Yakumo's guidance and her own bond to Gamera, she developed Hakurei Arts and Barrier Techniques. Usages for protecting her kind from kaijus and youkais who wanted to overwhelm and devour.

But even as she rose as a protector, Sendai was forced to hide her friendship with Gamera from other humans. Many feared the kaiju and would have condemned her bond as dangerous.

Thus, the unnamed cavewoman became Sendai Hakurei, the First Miko, and laid the foundations for what would one day become Gensokyo.

  Golden Age of Goldras

Centuries later, time itself twisted during the Golden Age of Goldras. These unnatural kaijus, capable of manipulate space and time, seen as apex predators, aimed to conquer all of Gensokyo and Odo Island as their own territories and regions.

To protect the outside world from being the next prey, the sages [Yakumo, Ibaraki and Matara], the Dragon God, and the Odo's Overseer [First Generation Geronimon] decided to sealed both realms from the Outside World.

However, more chaos arrived with Toymaker, who unleashed armies of Chojus (Super Beast) for his amusement.

This era pushed Sendai to her limits. Scarred by both time and battle and yet never be broken, enduring alongside with Gamera.

After the Golden Age faded away, she continued her sacred duty, long beyond the span of a normal human life.

   Motherhood - Present Day

Though she endured countless trials, a flicker of change came one night during a youkai attack on Shinkyō (真境). Amid the chaos, she found a crying infant who had lost her parents. For the first time in her long life, she chose family over duty. She saved the child and named her Hakurei Reimu, beginning a new chapter as a mother.

     Extra Family Member

Sendai first encountered Makto at a small sushi bar in Shinkyō, captivated not by the food itself, but by the care, precision, and artistry with which he prepared it. She found herself returning not for the meals, but to watch him work, silently admiring his skill and dedication. Over time, a quiet understanding and unspoken connection began to form between them.

One afternoon, Sendai asked Makto if he could watch over Reimu while she attended to her duties. Makto agreed after few hesitations, earning her deep appreciation. Yet when Sendai returned home that evening, she was surprised to find that Makto was not alone — he had brought with him his own kin, a young boy named Bofeng Adoro.

As days passed, kaijus from Odo Island began crossing into Gensokyo, seeking territory and food to sustain themselves. Though Sendai had endured countless challenges over the centuries, the sudden surge of tasks left her exhausted. To her surprise, Makto offered to help shoulder the burden — but first, he brought in Kamen Rider Vengeance, Junko, to assist with looking after the kids.

At first, Sendai was cautious around Junko, wary of this new warrior entering her domain. Over time, however, she grew fond of her, recognizing Junko’s quiet strength, skill, and domestic grace. Junko naturally became part of the household, forming a special bond with Bofeng, who quickly grew particularly attached to her.

From that day forward, Makto, Bofeng, and Junko became integral members of the Hakurei household, their presence transforming it into the Hakurei-Adoro household — a home where duty, affection, and family intertwined across generations, strengthened by trust, care, and shared purpose.

 Relationships

    Ascended Gamera

Sendai’s closest companion and lifelong guardian. Her blessing is the source of Sendai immense strength and spiritual power. Their bond is deeper than words—one of loyalty, protection, and silent understanding.

   Hakurei (Adoro) Reimu

From Sendai’s eyes, Reimu’s stubborn insistence to learn the ways of the Hakurei Miko is both frustrating and admirable. At first, Sendai resisted, fearing for her daughter’s safety and knowing the burdens that came with the role — the constant vigilance, the encounters with youkai and kaijus, and the weight of centuries of duty. Yet Reimu’s determination, courage, and genuine heart broke through her hesitation.

In accepting Reimu as the next Hakurei Miko, Sendai feels a pride that intertwines with protective love. She sees not just a student, but her own child stepping into a legacy she helped forge, carrying forward the strength, wisdom, and compassion that have defined the Hakurei lineage. Every lesson she teaches, every ritual she guides her through, is imbued with both maternal care and the gravity of responsibility.

Sendai eventually accepted her as the next Hakurei Miko and couldn’t be prouder.

   Bofeng Adoro (Hakurei)

Though not adopted by her, Bofeng is loved equally. After obtaining the Destivisor to become Ultraman Rebirth, Sendai watches over him quietly, ready to intervene only when needed. She was proud of him, very proud.

   Makto Adoro

Makto and Sendai’s love is quiet yet unwavering, forged in shared labor, battles, and small, intimate moments. It is a bond of mutual respect and understanding — he admires her strength and scars, she cherishes his patience and warmth. Neither needs grand gestures; a glance, a gentle touch, or a shared smile speaks volumes. Their love is both steadfast and playful.

    Junko [Kamen Rider Vengeance]

At first, Sendai was wary of Junko, a sagacious warrior-spirit Makto had brought in to help care for Reimu and Bofeng during their missions to balance fragile harmony between humans, youkai, and kaijus.

But over time, Junko’s somewhat gentle presence disarmed her. Despite being a Kamen Rider and battle-hardened like herself, Junko possessed a serene, domestic grace—cooking, cleaning, and caring for the children like an ordinary housewife. Slowly, Sendai began to trust her, then admire her, and eventually fell into a quiet, profound intimacy with Junko.

    Ascended Godzilla

Makto’s guardian, much like Gamera is to her. Though distant, he would watches over the family in dreams, spirits and meditations. Godzilla often visit the Hakurei Adoro household through their sanctuary lake. Sendai finds him amusing—loud, heavy, and oddly cat-like for a "kaiju king".

   Abilities

    Spiritual Combat

Sendai does not rely on ofuda, needles, or spellcards as her successor would. Instead, she channels raw spiritual energy directly into her body, using it to enhance her strength, speed, and resilience far beyond human limits. Her strikes carry purifying force, able to disperse youkai, distort barriers, and even stagger kaiju.

    Hand-to-Hand Martial Arts

Known as the “Shrine Maiden Who Punches Things Through,” Sendai fights almost exclusively with her fists, feet, and grappling techniques. Unlike most shrine maidens, she considers her body itself the sacred weapon.

    Barrier Techniques

Under the Yakumo’s guidance, Sendai was the first to refine barriers into a spiritual art. However, her barriers are not delicate or ornamental; they are brutal and functional. She uses them to pin, crush, or shield against massive blows. Often, she will conjure a barrier only to shatter it herself, sending shards of energy outward as weapons.

   Kaiju Resonance

Through her primordial bond with Ascended Gamera, Sendai’s spirit resonates with kaiju life. She can sense disturbances in the land and detect the presence of powerful creatures. At times, she draws upon Gamera’s vitality, causing her aura to manifest as a spectral turtle-shell shield or unleashing bursts of unnatural strength. This connection is both her greatest power and her deepest secret, one she kept hidden from humans for centuries.

    Intuitive Instinct

Without a predecessor to guide her, Sendai’s techniques are born from instinct and necessity. She is unpredictable in battle, adapting on the spot and relying on feral cunning honed since the Paleolithic era. Her improvisational style makes her dangerous even to seasoned youkai and kaiju, as no two fights with her ever unfold the same way.
