Work Text:

MARGO PETROVNA

Margo Petrovna

   Headcanon Theme: MOTHER (Hirasawa Susumu)

Margo Petrovna (マーゴ・ペトロヴナ, Māgo Petorovuna) is a supernatural being who once guided lost travelers in Russia before the modern world rendered her purpose obsolete. Manifesting as a soldier during World War I, she fought alongside humans before being betrayed by the Soviet Union in the aftermath of World War II. Now, she roams the cosmos with her mechanical companion, Svetlomir (スヴェトロミール, Suvetoromīru), acting as a cosmic courier while battling eldritch horrors across the stars. She is a prominent figure in the Beyond Directions universe and a recurring rival of Bofeng Adoro Hakurei, later developing a complicated bond with him.

      Personality

Despite living for trillions of years, Margo retains an unexpectedly sassy and laid-back demeanor, contrasting the horrors she has endured. Death, destruction, and eldritch abominations no longer faze her, as she views them with the same level of enthusiasm as a Saturday morning cartoon. When not delivering intergalactic parcels, she enjoys wasting time playing Fortnite or Clash Royale in Svetlomir’s cockpit, often indulging in Earth's media for sheer entertainment. However, beneath her carefree attitude lies a deeply conflicted soul.

While she claims indifference toward Earth, she still mourns her fallen comrades from World War II, reflecting on the ideals she once fought for. She holds immense respect for soldiers, regardless of strength or weakness, and despises unnecessary cruelty. In professional settings, Margo is polite and respectful to customers, though she has no patience for nonsense, readily exchanging sharp words with those who cross her.

     Appearance

No one can say for certain what Margo looked like in the days when she was merely a figure of folklore, a spectral guide for the lost and desperate. Stories conflict, and time has blurred the details—but those who crossed paths with her during the First World War were more certain of what they saw.

She was described then as a petite woman, standing at 5 feet tall, her most striking feature being three golden eyes—two where they should be, and a third resting on her forehead. She wore the standard field uniform of the era: a khaki-colored gymnastyorka, knee-length pants, boots, and a soft cap.  When winter fell heavy upon the battlefields, she donned a ushanka for warmth.

By the Second World War—an era that extends into her present-day appearance—Margo had changed. Now towering at 7 feet, she carries the passage of time in the deep wrinkles lining all three of her eyes. Her long, dark purple hair flows past her shoulders, though it does little to soften the severity of her features. A scar runs from the right side of her cheek to the bridge of her nose, a silent testament to battles long past.

Her eyes, once gold, now burn a piercing yellow, with tiny dots inside them like distant stars. Her attire reflects the war-torn century she has endured. She wears a Soviet Union peaked cap atop her head, its insignia sometimes replaced with that of Svetlomir's silhouette (or Galactron's), depending on the time and circumstance. A loosely buttoned white-collared shirt, accompanied by a black tie, sits beneath a long, heavy overcoat bearing the same insignia. Black gloves shield her hands, and dark trousers, secured with a sturdy belt, complete the ensemble and combat boots.

         History

   The Folklore Entity

Margo was once a spiritual guide in Russia, leading lost travelers to safety before the harsh Siberian winters claimed them. However, with industrialization and modernization, roads and maps replaced the need for such beings, and belief in old spirits faded. Her existence began to weaken, her purpose slipping away.

World War I - The Birth of a Soldier

The arrival of World War I changed everything. The land itself was scarred, and Margo found a new kind of lost traveler—soldiers stranded in the chaos of war. No longer satisfied with merely guiding souls as an unseen entity, she manifested into human form, enlisting as a soldier. She fought alongside her comrades, sharing their struggles and ambitions. However, in the war’s final days, she fell on the battlefield. But Margo ensured that the very place where she drew her last breath would be where she returned.

Reincarnation and the Fall of the Russian Empire

After World War I, Margo was reborn, found by an unnamed priest and Ivan (later Yami) within the secrecy of a church. She became the priest’s adopted daughter, though her presence shattered his marriage. Despite this, he continued to raise her, giving her the only semblance of a family she ever knew. However, peace did not last. The fall of the Russian Empire and the rise of the Soviet Union marked the beginning of a new era.

World War II - The Devil of the Red Army

When Operation Barbarossa began, Margo’s home and found family were reduced to ashes before her very eyes. The Soviet Union, fascinated by her supernatural nature, took her in—not as a child, but as a weapon. Trained and hardened, Margo rose to the rank of generals, overseeing large-scale military operations and leading soldiers into battle.

But was she the same soldier who once fought alongside her comrades in World War I? Now, she was the one sending them to die. Justifying their sacrifices in the name of the Great Soviet Union became an internal battle she never truly won. The folklore wanderer who once led travelers to safety was now a fading memory, replaced by the devil of the Red Army.

           SVETLOMIR

One day, a meteor crashed in Siberia, containing a relic from the great beyond—an advanced alien war machine, Galactron (ウルトラマンオーブ). The Soviet Union saw a potential weapon to secure victory, but Margo saw something else. Tasked with studying it, she instead bonded with the AI within, nurturing its consciousness. She named it Svetlomir, and as it learned from her, it developed a mind of its own. The Soviet Union, fearful of what they had created, decided to decommission Margo—execution was inevitable. To Margo, it was betrayal. As her final act, she activated Svetlomir, and together, they fled Earth, soaring into the cosmos with no intention of returning.

Trillions of Years in the Cosmos

 I have outlived my name,

watched history fold upon itself,

a canvas repainted, again and again,

as if the past was never real.

I buried comrades in the frost,

sang for those who had no voices left,

but who sings for me now?

Who carves my name in the stone?

The stars do not mourn.

The void does not care.

And I—I am nothing but a whisper

adrift in a sea of silence.

I fought wars that ended before time knew my face,

chewed through horrors that never should have been,

drank their screams like bitter vodka,

but the taste never dulled.

There is no end to the hunger,

no end to the hunt, and yet—

Somewhere between forgotten moons,

on the edge of a system without a name,

a job fell into my lap.

A package in my hands,

a destination in my sights,

a purpose, absurd as it is.

The weight of a parcel,

the hum of Svetlomir’s thrusters,

the thrill of slipping between realities—

no gunfire, no graves. Just movement.

I knock on a door in a world that shouldn't exist,

hand over a box filled with who-knows-what,

and they pay me in words, in smiles,

in the kind of gratitude war never had.

It’s stupid. It’s simple.

It’s the best damn thing I’ve done in years.

I am still a wanderer.

Still a ghost of an age long past.

But maybe, just maybe,

this time, I am not lost.

Return to Earth - The Search for Gensokyo

Upon revisiting Earth, Margo discovered that only 50 years had passed since World War II. To her, this was absurd. But she had no intention of returning to human society, instead seeking a place beyond logic and reason. Her journey led her to Gensokyo, where she phased through the Hakurei Barrier using her Defy-The-Impossible ability, constructing a secluded home for herself and Svetlomir. However, the awakening of Ultraman Rebirth stirred something deep within her once more…

   Prominent Ability

    Defy-The-Impossible

Margo’s willpower is beyond reason, allowing her to ignore the laws of reality to an extent. This does not grant her reality-warping powers, but rather, the sheer determination to overcome situations deemed impossible. She fights like a human, using martial arts, Soviet-era weaponry, and sheer skill, rather than supernatural advantages. However, mixing her abilities with Svetlomir’s combat systems creates an overwhelming force of sheer absurdity.

Of course, this does not protect her from the IRS.

     Svetlomir

A modified Galactron, Svetlomir retains the same arsenal as its counterparts but with enhanced adaptability due to its bond with Margo. While capable of extreme destruction, its ultimate loyalty lies with her, prioritizing Margo’s safety above all else. (For standard Galactron abilities, see Galactron.)

       Relationships

    Ivan / Yami

Ivan and Margo shared a familial bond. Whenever Margo's "Father" went out for work in the church and Ivan had nothing to do, he always babysit Margo to ensure the gremlin wouldn't make a mess within the holy place. Margo had a thing for calling him "Uncle Ivan". During the tragic event of Operation Barbarossa, Margo "accidentally saved" Ivan without being aware of her ability. Transferring his soul and in the process merge the soul with a body of a supernatural. Ivan was the former name, now it is Yami.

       The Unnamed Priest

     "I miss you, Father."

    Svetlomir

Svetlomir is Margo’s (oldest) friend in all but name. Though an AI, it developed a mischievous personality influenced by her. Its protective nature often clashes with Margo’s reckless behavior, much to her annoyance whenever she needed to Be serious in their courier job.

      Bofeng Adoro Hakurei/Ultraman Rebirth

What started as an ongoing rivalry between Ultraman Rebirth vs. Svetlomir and Bofeng vs. Margo turned into something deeper. After numerous conflicts of a rivalry that slowly evolved into boredom, they bonded over small things such as Tokusatsu, Samurai Jack, and Phineas and Ferb, not knowing Margo enjoyed consuming media, especially Tokusatsu (& No Country for Old Men). They let her experience a childhood, one that does not come with tragedy. They bonded over little things and over time, their rivalry evolved into devotion, hinting at a future where they might become something more.
