Phantom Limb

Summary:

Azrael checks out a church, and finds Loki praying.

Notes:

All the characters in this AU (angels and demons) are now classified as demihumans. Which is why Azrael isn't affected by the church ^w^

Work Text:

Azrael leaves the bar, adjusting the collar of his jacket as he glances at a church nearby. He runs a hand through his hair, before resting it both in the pockets of his jacket, and then strolls over to the church with a curious stride. He felt hesitant for a moment, but stepped in, his leather shoe drawing a small clack that somehow startled him for a split second. "Hm." He hummed, before raising his head.. and noticing Loki in the distance.

There he is, whispering with his head downwards, his hands in a tight prayer. Sitting there so still under the light shining through the stained glass. Azrael slowly, and casually approaches him, trying not to make a scene until,

"Hey." Loki greeted meekly with a smile, finishing his prayer as he raises his head to look up at him. Azrael can only scratch the back of his neck awkwardly, parting his lips.. but the words he tried to say are nowhere to be found. He sighs, then sat next to him. "Uh, hi." He greeted back, smiling nervously. "I didn't expect you to be here, what's up?" Loki leans against the seat, crossing his legs nonchalantly as hos gaze met his. "I guess I got curious?" He only chuckled, again, sounding awkward as always.

Loki sighs in a bored manner, looking up to the ceiling. He admires the art on the stained glass windows for a brief moment, marveling the colors. Afterwards, he looks at him again. "You wanna go for a walk? I finished my prayers." He asked, getting up as he followed suit. "Sure.." Azrael muttered.

Walking home, they both kept some kind of distance, as if there's an invisible wall keeping them from being so close. After all, what happens in the past stays in a past, but not in Azrael's case. He still felt guilty, in some way, but he never got the courage to flat out say it. "How are the kids?" Loki asks with that same smile, putting his hands in the pockets of his jeans. Azrael sighs, the chilly air forming a small fog before it dissipated shortly after. He fidgets with his hands absentmindedly. "They're doing great," He said. "Though, I had to admit, it was a challenge to take care of triplets."

Loki chuckled, patting his back. Azrael froze, then scoffed, lightheartedly. "Well, how's Bartleby?" He takes a turn in asking, tilting his head to the side slightly. Curious. "Damn, he's been moody this week. Unsure why." The other shrugged, snickering. He expected that.

After a while of walking, Azrael stops by his lawn, waving at Loki. "See ya later." He said, walking to the door. Loki waved back, smiling to him one last time before eventually leaving to their house.
