Boyfriend

Summary:

"Yeah, I really pity whatever future boyfriend is gonna have to live with your expensive ass. That purse is like a week's salary."

Miyeon huffs and looks offended. "You said it was fine when you paid for it!"

"Oh of cooourse, honey, but something half the price would've been fine too, is all I'm saying."

Miyeon pouts and stops talking, clutching her expensive purse and looking at it with a sense of guilt. Soyeon reaches over the table and gives her a light push to her shoulder. "It's fine, Myeon." She grins, "I'm sure your boyfriend named Minnie can handle your expensive tastes just fine."

Chapter Text

It's common knowledge in the group that everyone finds Miyeon at least a little bit annoying. It's fine though, everyone has their flaws.
Minnie likes to consider herself flawless, but some would probably argue that she can be unnecessarily cruel. It's not her fault that the people around her keep giving her perfect openings for mean one-liners. And when Minnie sees an opportunity, she takes it.

So when Miyeon is ranting to everyone again during game night, in her cute high voice, about all the things Minnie had bought her on their last shopping trip together, Minnie rolls her eyes.

Yuqi snorts and Minnie can't help but smile too as Miyeon goes redder and redder. She puts her arms around her, to sell it just a little bit more, before returning her attention to Soojin and the action cards she's playing during her turn.

Minnie's not really sure how she came to be close friends with Miyeon. They went to the same high school, but Miyeon had always been part of the popular girls, while Minnie used to play soccer in front of the school with the upperclassmen back then.
Minnie barely registered that they were going to the same college, until Soyeon brought her lab-partner to game night one day and Minnie immediately recognized her. She's a bit of an odd fit in their group, she's a lot more feminine than the rest of them, clearly. She's had a different kind of life.
But in college it all doesn't seem to matter much anymore. Nearly all other students in their courses are men, so, regardless of background, their friend group has found that they need each other to stay safe and sane in this man's world.

She turns to Miyeon to whisper in her ear once everyone's attention has shifted away from them again. "You know it's fine, right, Miyeon? I bought that bag voluntarily, I'm not upset."

Miyeon sighs. "I know."

"It's pretty. You picked well. It's very..." Minnie touches some of the small pink pearls that run along the edge of the purse. "...very you."

"Yeah." Miyeon adjusts the grip Minnie has on her waist, moving her hand more to her hip, and lies her head on Minnie's shoulder, slightly smiling again.
Minnie smiles back. The things between them are never serious.

------------------------------------------------

When it gets late and game night ends, it's time for Soojin, Minnie and Miyeon to go home again. Miyeon's coat is hanging over Minnie's, so she grabs it at walks towards the older girl.

"Geez, the boyfriend behavior again." Shuhua pretends to be grossed out. Minnie was initially just going to give Miyeon her jacket, but with the eyes now on them, she decides to make a show of it. "Let me do it, babe." She takes Miyeon's arm and lifts it to put it through the sleeve of her coat and then does the same to her other arm. She stands behind Miyeon and wraps her hands around her body to reach for the buttons that she does up agonizingly slowly, breathing heavily in Miyeon's neck while doing so. Shuhua makes more overly disgusted noises and after closing Miyeon's last button, Minnie can't contain herself either. She nearly falls to the ground in laughter at her own antics as the rest of them laugh too with feigned disapproval.

"I can do it myself next time, Minnie, please and thank you."

"Oh, of course you can. Here's your purse by the way." Minnie hands it over and Miyeon hesitates for a second before snatching it from Minnie's hands, who has a shit-eating grin on her face. Minnie takes Miyeon's hand and the three of them walk away from Shuhua, Soyeon and Yuqi's apartment. During the walk to the bus stop, neither of them feel the urge to let go, so they don't. Minnie looks at Miyeon while they walk, flashing her a small smile. Miyeon reciprocates and looks away as she entwines their fingers tighter. It makes something warm fuzz up inside Minnie. Miyeon had always been someone so unattainable in highschool. As much as she swears she didn't want to be her friend back then, Miyeon did always intrigue her. Miyeon didn't even know who Minnie was in highschool, so the fact that she's willing to hold her hand now makes her feel just a little bit proud. Or something. She can't entirely place what the feeling is, but she enjoys it.
