Work Text:
It was getting later in the day, Rei noted. If watching Eichi begin his nightly routine wasn't enough of a giveaway, he could feel his own energy start to increase as the night began. Despite already being in his black, silk pajamas he was likely to stay up for hours to come. After all, he knew he was a creature of the night before anything else.
He continued to lounge in bed on top of his bed sheets, watching his blond haired roommate go through his belongings through the thin partition in their shared room. He silently noted the absence of their third roommate who was likely with someone he knew like some other nights.
Eichi soon vanished to the bathroom, not even sparing a glance at the vampire. Usual activity for the two when alone. As the door shut, Rei figured it would be another night of sitting alone in the dark until the early hours of the morning. There were no UNDEAD lives for the time being, nor any other reason to excuse himself being awake leaving Rei to his own thoughts and little else.
Thankfully, his savior from his own thoughts just happened to loudly burst through the door.
“Rei!” Chiaki, with little respect for the time of night, kicked down the door despite it being unlocked and shouted into the dorm. “I need you for the night!” He stood there proudly in his day clothes, hands on both sides of the doorway. A large grin was plastered on his face, his face almost radiating from the way he would always smile.
The sound of both the door hitting the wall and Chiaki's own voice likely woke those in dorms nearby while also managing to startle Rei. He sat up on his bed quickly, slightly tense, before relaxing a tad seeing who the perpetrator was. “Chiaki-kun…” he trailed, “Please, do keep your voice down, it's mighty late for many in the dorms.” Chiaki at least had the decency to look a little apologetic before walking closer to his area of the dorm room to stand beside his bed. Rei gave a small hum in satisfaction, “Now, what exactly did you need tonight?”
Chiaki proudly put his hands on his hips, and spoke almost just as loud as before, though noticeably quieter for who he is. “I want you to sleep with me!” Rei flushed red at the statement and brought a hand to his face in an attempt to shield his eyes and look away. Chiaki tilted his head in confusion for a moment, similar to a dog before realization set in. He backtracked immediately just as red as the other, waving his hands in front of his face frantically, “N-not like that, not like that!”
Eichi chose this time to open the door to the bathroom, “I sure hope not,” he walked to his bed nearby with his day clothes folded neatly in his arms. “You can take Sakuma-san, however please try to keep it PG for all of our sake.” His smile was gentle, but anyone could tell he was messing with the both of them a little bit.
Rei simply glowered at Eichi from behind his hand, face not once calming down from his blush. Chiaki gave a mock salute before grabbing both Rei's phone from his nightstand and the man's arm before leaving the room as quick as he could and shut the door behind them.
As soon as they got into the hallway, Chiaki seemed to let out a breath while Rei was still red and in a slight daze from being dragged out of the room. “Sorry about that Rei, I didn't mean for it to sound like that…” he trailed off a bit, rubbing the back of his neck.
Rei let out a chuckle as his face started to go back to its original pale state, “It's alright,” he paused and looked at Chiaki’s face, taking in the freckles all over his tan skin. Making notes of the faint scars from his old stunt work that he's seen and traced over many times prior, “Why did you want me to rest with you tonight anyway?”
“Um! W-well!” Chiaki couldn't meet the other’s eyes, face still as red as it was back in the dorm room, “I just uh, wanted to spend some time with you I guess. I hope that's fine” He was shuffling in his spot, oddly nervous in a way few people have really seen.
Rei smiled gently and grabbed Chiaki's hands gently, enjoying the difference between his own pale, bony hands with visible veins and the other's far more callused and visibly scared.
God, he was so smitten.
“You needn't worry about it being fine or not. I will gladly spend the night with you, dear.” He pried his gaze away from Chiaki to the floor, and began to pout. “I just wish you would have let me grab my slippers…”
Chiaki let out a hearty laugh, and let go of one of Rei's hands as he began to lead the way to his own dorm.

When they arrived at Chiaki's dorm, Rei made sure the door was opened much gentler than it was prior. The two waltzed into the room, hand in hand, before Chiaki let go. “You can go sit on my bed, I need to change first!”
Rei hummed, watching the other go and grab a random t-shirt from his dresser, “Did you rush to my room right as you got off work?”
“Yup!” Chiaki seemed proud of this fact, “I needed to make sure you went to bed tonight!”
Something clicked in Rei's mind, “Ah, so that's why you wanted me over?” He slinked over to the other as Chiaki pushed his dresser shut. Rei put his head in the crook of the other’s neck and wrapped his arms around his waist. He pouted and let out a mock sob, “What a shame, my love did not want me here for himself. He tricked me into being here, o~i oi oi oi.”
Chiaki brought a hand up to pet the black hair of the vampire. Rei’s theatrics were always entertaining for him, but at the same time he flet bad. “I did, promise! But, I also want to make sure you're sleeping well!” He let out an almost heroic sounding laugh, “A demon king can use some help, too!”
“My hero,” Rei couldn't help but raise his hands to the other's face to tilt his head slightly, allowing Rei to place a delicate kiss on his cheek. “Now, go get dressed for bed.”
Rei pulled away and walked to what was obviously Chiaki's bed. He had a night stand littered with action figures and his portion of the wall decorated with movie and TV-show posters. It was, authentically, Chiaki. Hearing the telltale click of the bathroom door closing, he surveyed the rest of the room. No Makoto, and no Adonis. Odd, although none of his business what the other two were up to with their spare time. He was happy to be able to spend the night with as much privacy as the dorms could provide. He pulled the comforter back and crawled inside, sitting back and making himself comfortable. Shortly after, he heard the bathroom door open again.
Chiaki walked out wearing nothing but an older RYUSEITAI graphic tee and a pair of dark red boxer briefs. A sigh left him, a teasing glint in his red eyes “No pants? Nobody else here? Are you sure we aren’t doing anything else?” Chiaki only sighed and threw his clothes into an empty hamper with a light shake of his head.
“Enough of that, we should go to bed.” Chiaki turned off the light and slowly made his way to his bed. He crawled into bed next to Rei, pulling him down so the both were laying next to each other. Their legs were intertwined under the covers as Chiaki shoved his head into the other’s chest, wrapping his arms tightly around his waist.
Rei however, was still laying on his back during all of this. One of his arms was currently trapped under the weight of the other. His red eyes looked as if they were glowing in the dark room as he looked down at the man holding him down to the bed. “Dear, it’s not even that late! It’s only,” Rei paused to look at the digital alarm clock in the middle of Chiaki’s action figure collection. The red numbers stared back at him almost tauntingly, “About nine-thirty at night.” He layed back down and brought the hand not being crushed by Chiaki to his hair. “We still have much of the night.”
Chiaki was already growing drowsy, but he pushed himself up to his hands to hover over Rei. “Wrong, you have most of the night normally. Tonight, I have made it my mission to make sure you get a good night of sleep.” He paused and brought his right hand to Rei’s cheek, his thumb tracing the deep purple eyebags that never seem to leave his face. He smiled gently, a contrast to his normal blinding smile. “You look like you need it, and it’s a hero’s job to make sure the person he cares about is happy and healthy.”
Rei gave a gentle smile back, his grin letting his fangs poke through his lips a bit. He brought both his hands up to both of Chiaki’s cheeks, leaning up to peck his lips. “You’re so nice to me, my dear hero.”
Chiaki’s grin only grew to the point where it could light up the room shrouded in darkness. Without a word he lowered himself down on his side, positioning himself similar to how he was laying before. Only this time, Rei was also laying on his side and pulling the other closer to him. Rei buried his head in the red-brown hair of his lover and kissed the crown of his head, listening to Chiaki’s breaths even out. Rei followed his lead and closed his eyes soon after, feeling the body heat of the other warming up his own. He was lucky, and he knew it. While he wished Chiaki hadn’t tricked him into sleeping early, deep down he does understand why it was done.
Maybe tonight he could afford to ignore his instincts and rest early tonight.
