The sun was shining on Ahsoka’s first day with the rebellion.
It was strange.
She was filled with the same nervous energy that she used to get before a mission with the 501st. The shaking, fingers itching to pull her lightsabers, montrals vibrating with every tiny little sound, bouncing on the balls of her feet kind of nervous energy. The kind of nervous energy that she would try and burn out before the mission started.
She stretched her arms above her head, noting that they were still slightly sore from the duel with the inquisitor two days ago. It hadn’t been a difficult duel, the lightsaber wielder that she had learned was called an inquisitor was not that hard to defeat, but her muscles had been unused to it, apparently.
She changed into a simple outfit, frowning at the lack of protection.
Normally she wouldn’t be too annoyed, force, she had gone into battle wearing a tube top, but she couldn’t exactly use the force to block blaster fire or wield her lightsabers. She would need to find some sort of armor.
Maybe she could ask Bo-Katan for something Mandalorian-made.
If Mandalore had survived.
Flashes of screams echoed through her head and she shook her hands, shoving the force away from her. It wasn’t good to focus on what had happened. She had already done that for months now.
It was time to fight.
She was a soldier.
Had been for years.
She sighed, checking her comn and reading the mission brief.
It seemed to be easy.
All she had to do was get to one of the new imperial buildings and download all the information they had and leave. Send the information to her contact in the rebellion—she didn’t know who it was, just that she could trust them—and that was all.
In and out.
Obtain information.
It shouldn’t be that hard.
Knowing her luck, however, she wasn’t looking forward to it.
She checked the new blasters she had obtained methodically, reminded of the days when she would sit next to Rex on the ship, cleaning her lightsabers as he cleaned his blasters. She could remember him showing her what to do and how to make sure they would fire perfectly every time.
She remembered staring down the barrel of his blasters.
The force screaming in agony around her.
She shook her head, placing her blasters on her belt and unlocking the door. It wasn’t going to help her if she focused on the events of the past. She had to keep moving forward, she had to keep fighting. She had told Senator Organa that she couldn’t keep fighting and yet here she was again.
Standing on the sidewalk in front of the little hotel she had spent the night at.
The golden rays of the sun beaming across the pavement.
The chatter of people walking past echoing like a song.
Imperial banners waving menacingly in the wind.
Ahsoka Tano breathed in the crisp air and sighed. The blasters on her belt were a heavy reminder of everything she had lost. Everyone she had lost. The fact that she was now alone on a planet she had never been before, surrounded by people who now wanted her dead.
She touched the blasters and closed her eyes.
She didn’t know what she was doing.
She had no idea how to be a rebel.
She had…they had done missions, during the war, that were more rebellion-esq, but she didn’t…she hadn’t ever been alone, during those.
Even when she was alone she had known she had people looking out for her.
Now she was alone.
The blasters heavy on her belt.
She had no experience being a rebel.
Heh.
Experience outranks everything.
She supposed she needed to get some experience, then.
She opened her eyes, taking in the busy streets before her.
The droids passing by.
The people chattering loudly.
The sun’s rays beaming down on her.
The imperial flags waving dramatically in the wind.
Yes, the blasters were a reminder.
They were a reminder of who she was now. Not a Jedi. Not a civilian.
A rebel.
She stepped out onto the street.
The sun was rising on her first day as part of the rebellion.
