Life in the Devildom Continues

Summary:

Continuation of OG Obey Me: Hard Lesson 20-15.

You have left the Devildom for some time now and the demon brothers have been noticeably sad. Until Belphie reveals something that causes chaos in the House of Lamentation.

Notes:

I've always thought the mini chapter of OG Obey Me Hard Lesson 20 was amusing, so I decided to add more to it for fun.

I hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

To say life has been hard in the Devildom since you left would be an understatement. It has only been a month since you went back to the human world and the seven brothers have yet to feel content with it.

Considering they’ve lived centuries without you— your absence should have little effect on them. Life at the House of Lamentation and R.A.D should go back to how it used to be. Unfortunately, it wasn't that simple. As hectic as the single year you spent with everyone was, your impact on their lives was remarkable.

In so much that Lord Diavolo was having a hard time coping with the fact that his second human exchange student had to go back home. Barbatos attempted to keep the Young Master at bay by doing little things that would remind him of you. From serving your favorite tea leaves he acquired from the human world to suggesting books you recommended.

Even so, life still had to continue on in the Devildom without you.

“Mammon, give me back my money!” Leviathan stormed into the common room, heading straight for the couch where Mammon lazily sat.

“No 'Hi Mammon' or 'How are you?', you’re always buggin’ me about repayments, it’s getting old!"

"Excuse me? I have the right to expect back the money you owe me!” Levi snapped.

“I told you I need a little more time! How many times do I gotta say it?!” Mammon exclaimed.

“It's the same excuse every time! Give me back my money!”

“I'm tellin' ya, I don't have it right now! Even if you held me upside down and shook me, no money would fall out cause I'm broke!”

“Well how about we put that to the test?”  Lucifer cuts off their argument, “So you haven't paid your younger brother the money you owe him, but you’ll still go out, play cards, and get yourself further into debt?”

Slowly, Mammon cautiously stood up as he began looking around for his other younger brothers for help, but to no avail. Satan sighed and continued to read his book. “Can somebody help?”

As Lucifer was closing in on Mammon, a distraught Asmodeous ran into the common room with Beelzebub on his tail. “This is HORRIBLE!” Asmo stalked towards Lucifer and pointed a finger at Beel, “Lucifer, you won't believe how horrible Beel is!”

“Asmo, this is all a misunderstanding.” Beel said.

“How exactly is this a misunderstanding? I went out and bought a very special sweet treat that's only sold in limited quantities. I was planning on posting a picture of it on Devilgram to impress everyone, but you went and ate it before I could even get a picture!”

Beel stared blankly at Asmo before responding, “But I'm really sorry.”

Asmo made a guttural sound of frustration and continued to shout angrily at Beel about the time and effort it took to get the dessert as the other brothers sighed and shook their heads. Mammon was just happy the attention was off him.

Just as Lucifer was going to step in and try to pull Asmo away from Beel, Asmo shouted, “Ugh! I've had it! I wish Y/n was here right now!”

The common room goes silent as a wave of sadness rushed through the brothers. All thoughts of the previous quarrels coming to an end at the single mention of their favorite human.

“...Yeah, she would probably find a way to fix things in a really smart way. She was always good at helping us solve our problems quickly.” Levi smiled sadly.

“Y/n…” Beel sighed.

“I wonder if she’s doing alright?” Asmo smiled.

As the demon brothers quietly wondered about you, Belphegor walked in the room yawning. “Huh? That’s weird, it feels strangely somber in here?”

“It’s just your imagination”. Satan replied.

“Well, whatever.” Belphie then began to look around the room and lift books that laid on the coffee table, before looking behind the pillows on one of the couches. “What the heck. Have any of you seen my D.D.D? I thought I left it here, but I can’t find it.”

“I haven’t been in here long, I haven’t seen it.” Levi said.

“Are you sure you left it here?” Lucifer asked. He proceeds to check by one of the common room desks as Satan checks behind the pillows of the couch he’s sitting on.

“I’m not sure, but I’m expecting a call soon. So hopefully I’ll hear it when it rings.”

Asmo’s eyes widened in shock as if he couldn't believe what he heard. “You're expecting a call? There's actually someone you're looking forward to chatting with?”

“Yep. Today’s the day Y/n calls me.” Belphie smiled. Not a word was uttered after the words fell from Belphie’s mouth.

After a few seconds, it was Satan that broke the silence that resonated through the room at Belphie’s words, “Y/n?”

“Did I hear that right?” Mammon asked.

As the brothers spoke in shock of the news, Asmo was the first one to truly process the weight of Belphie’s words.“WHAT?! Oh, I hate you... I HATE you!” Asmo pouted, “Ughhh... This is so not fair!”

“Why are you the only one who gets a call from her?” Beel snapped.

“Well, I guess I rank lower than Belphie as far as she’s concerned. I mean, I should've expected as much…” Levi continued to mutter self-deprecating thoughts that everyone chose to ignore.

Lucifer crossed his arms over his chest and pinned Belphie with a glare that promised punishment, “Did you say that today's the day she calls you?”

“You make it sound like it's a set thing, as if you have been calling each other on a regular basis.” Satan snapped.

Belphie couldn’t help the laugh that escaped his mouth at his brothers’ jealousy. The day you went back to the human world, the first thing he did was use his D.D.D to call you that night to see if your's would still work while you're in the human world. He was honestly surprised none of his other brothers had thought to do the same.

And he sure wasn’t going to tell them his discovery. Belphie couldn't help but feel complacent. “Yeah, we have. Why?”

“Get that smug look off your face! You're makin’ me want to wipe it right off!” Mammon said, greatly irritated.

Beel wasn’t having it. “How could you keep this from me? I want to talk to her–!”

“Me too! I want to hear her voice so bad!” Asmo whined.

The voices of all seven brothers filled the room as they demanded to speak with you while Belphie responded with snarky comments. “Well maybe if she wanted to speak with any of you, she would’ve called?” He shrugged with a smirk, “It shouldn’t come as a shock that I’m her favorite.” Which sparked a more heated argument.

But in the midst of all the commotion, someone’s D.D.D began ringing.

Everyone paused and looked at each other, before processing that it’s Belphie’s missing D.D.D. You were calling.

The demon brothers immediately began racing around the room to find the phone that sounded very close and loud, but was hard to find. Couch pillows were tossed across the room and couches were lifted. Mammon was throwing the desk drawers out of its’ sockets, which Lucifer will definitely be hanging him from the ceiling for.

“Ahahahah I win!” Levi exclaimed as he held up the ringing phone triumphantly and tried to make a hasty escape.

“Don’t touch my D.D.D!” Belphie yelled as he ran to tackle Levi, to which the other 5 brothers followed suit.

Lucifer sighed and shook his head as he watched them all grapple for the D.D.D. He’d rather just call you in the privacy of his room later than make a fool of himself. Although, even he can admit that he wanted to speak to you rather deeply. If anyone would’ve told him a hundred years ago that a human would occupy his thoughts at every hour of the day, he would’ve thrown them in hell’s fire.

Through the brothers’ wrestling, someone must’ve pressed the answer button because all of a sudden your voice filled the room and everyone froze. “–lo? Belphie is everything okay? Should I call back later?”

“Y/n!” Everyone screamed.

The brothers scrambled to sit in upright positions as Levi held the D.D.D in the middle with the speaker turned on. They heard a bit of rustling on your end before you spoke again. “Well this is unexpected, am I on speaker? Hey everyone!”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

You had just sat on a park bench as you untangled and plugged your headphones into your D.D.D. It was a nice morning and you decided to run a few errands before spending the rest of your day at home. Luckily, your call arrangement with Belphie landed on your day off work. As chaotic as the call sounded on Belphie’s end, you couldn’t help the fond smile that spread across your face at the sound of the brothers’ voices.

But the moment you had their attention was when the bombardment began.

“Y/n, how have you been? What’s the human world like?” Satan asked.

“Don’t tell me you’ve been lonely since you parted ways from the Great Mammon.” Mammon snickered.

“I miss you so much!” Beel exclaimed. You wince, but laugh a little as you turn down the volume of your phone.

“Oh, oh, oh, me next! Y/n, what is the current fashion trend in the human world? I want to be the one to set it in the Devildom! Have you hung out with Solomon since you've been home?” Asmo asked.

“W-What games have you been playing? H-Have you finished the manga set I let you borrow?” Levi spluttered.

“Okay, whoa guys! Calm down!” You cut them off. The amount of questions and comments that were being thrown at you was overwhelming. You could barely focus on what each demon said. Not a single word could get out as each sentence or question was spoken immediately after another.

You could hear a groan from the other side of the line. “This is ridiculous, I'm sorry. They took my phone and now they’re interrupting our alone time.” You imagined the pout that was likely on Belphie’s face and couldn’t help the giggle that escaped. “It’s okay, I’ll call you back later to make it up to you. I missed all of you, so I’m enjoying this.”

“Hey! Speakin’ of, why did Belphie only get to talk to ya? That ain’t fair, I was your first!” Mammon snapped.

“Mammon, how many times have we told you to stop being misleading?” Lucifer scolded.

That did not stop the other four brothers from demanding answers as well through the phone. From what you could hear, it was a mix of Asmo’s dramatic ‘how could you’s’, Levi making subdued comments about him being your least favorite, Satan agreeing with the first half of Mammon’s statement, and Beel claiming he lost his appetite when he first heard the news.

You let them release all of their comments until the other line finally gets quiet. “Are we done crying now? In all honesty, I did think about calling all of you after Belphie did, but I wanted to see if any of you would reach out first.”

You could hear a choked sound on the other end, but before someone else could speak you continued. “But, after a month no one did. So I just decided to keep only talking to Belphie, and I didn’t mind one bit! I guess that means he must love me the most and while I didn’t have a favorite brother, I do now!” You teased and covered your mouth to contain your laughter at the uproar you knew you would cause.

“What the hell? You take that back!” Mammon yelled.

“Y/n, don’t say stuff like that.” Beel chided.

“Belphie, stop laughing and shut the hell up!” Satan snapped.

“You don’t mean that right? I’m the most precious demon you’ve ever met! Belphie, this is your fault!” Asmo whined, you could imagine the tears in his eyes through his distress.

“I apologize for not thinking and trying to call sooner. But, there's no need to tell such a lie. You almost broke Levi.” Lucifer sighed.

At this, you couldn't contain your amusement anymore and laughed loudly into your D.D.D. A couple nearby was startled by your outburst and gave you a confused smile before they walked away. You wiped the tears that formed in your eyes, and attempted to collect yourself before responding. “I’m just joking! I have no favorites and I love you all equally, but I wasn't kidding about waiting for the rest of you to reach out to me first. It was a little game that all of you lost!”

You ignore the indignant muttering that filled your headphones before continuing, “To answer your earlier questions, I’ve been doing well and I really missed all of you. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be to get re-adjusted to life in the city— and I’ll have you know that I do have family and friends here, Mammon!” As he responds, you think back to remember the question Asmo asked you as well before speaking again. “Wait, Asmo, you know I hardly keep up with fashion trends, I’m practically useless in that regard but I do talk to Solomon from time to time. He’s usually busy and while I don’t know where he lives exactly, I know it’s not near me.”

You think hard again to remember any other back questions they asked, but your mind comes up blank. “I think someone asked me something else, but I can't remember.”

“Of course you can't, it was me that asked. After all, I’m the most unimportant demon in your life.” Levi muttered.

Hearing Levi’s words, you remembered him being last. “I’m sorry, Levi! You know that’s not true and if you don't stop saying that I’ll stop playing games with you.” He gasped at your words and started feverishly apologizing before you continued. “I haven’t finished the manga set. I’m a working woman who’ll need more time to get through 30 books. As for gaming, a friend of mine introduced me to a really fun open-world mobile game. I’m not far into the storyline yet, but it’s interesting. I think you would enjoy it!”

You then ask them questions in return. Ranging from how they’ve been and what they’ve been up to in the last month.

They continue to chat for ten more minutes when you look down at your D.D.D and realize it’s almost three in the afternoon. As much as you would hate to end the call after finally hearing all the brothers; you really need to get to the store before you're stuck taking the bus home during rush hour.

You regretfully interrupted Asmo’s story about Lucifer punishing Mammon and Levi a week ago for breaking an expensive sculpture at R.A.D. to try to end the call “I’m sorry to cut you off Asmo, but I have to finish running a few errands.”

There were responses of ‘No’s’ and ‘Don’t go yet’s’ as you stood from the park bench and prepared to continue walking to the store. “I know. I want to keep talking too, but it’ll slow my pace and I’ll get distracted. Look on the brightside, at least now you know my D.D.D works and you can call or message me whenever you have the chance!”

While you can tell they were still upset that the call will have to end, you can tell that they were more relaxed when reminded that they can contact you on their own time.

“Alright, my brothers and I will let you continue with your day. I’ll call you soon.” Lucifer said.

“Me too! I still have so much to tell you!” Asmo exclaimed.

“Eh?! Neither of ya are talkin’ to her alone before the Great Mammon!” Mammon declared.

Before that statement could turn into another argument, you shouted, “Bye everyone, I’ll talk to you soon! I love and miss you all! Tell Diavolo and Barbatos I said hi!”

And with that, all seven brothers responded with various ‘goodbye’s’ of their own before you tapped the end call button.

Back in the House of Lamentation, the brothers are noticeably happier and begin to disperse to their rooms when Lucifer stops them.

“Where do you all think you’re going? If you think you’re leaving without cleaning this mess up you’re mistaken.” He frowned and shook his head. “And Mammon, if any of those drawers you threw are broken, pick a good spot you’d like to be hung for the night.”

Mammon shrieked as the rest of the younger brothers groaned as they began to straighten up the common room.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Within the first week of the demon brothers finding out they could contact you— your D.D.D hardly stopped receiving notifications. You're able to respond to messages, but what makes it harder is when multiple brothers try calling you at once. You're not able to get a hold of any of them properly, and when you do manage to answer; you can always hear two or more of the brothers fighting over who gets to talk to you in the background. Which in the end, leads to you hanging up.

The final straw was almost two weeks after the first phone call. You were in a rush to get ready for work that morning because you mistakenly set your alarm for six-thirty pm, instead of am. In your haste, you didn’t realize you put your D.D.D in your purse instead of your smartphone until you were already at work and putting on your apron.

“What the fuck?" You whispered to yourself as you looked down at the phone. “Fuck it. I don’t have time for this.”

You proceed to put the D.D.D in your apron before washing your hands and walking behind the barista counter to start working.

The day was going well until about two hours into your shift, you felt the D.D.D ring and vibrate in your apron pocket continuously. You're not allowed to have your phone out on the work floor, especially when it’s busy. You couldn't even discreetly try to find if the D.D.D has a silent switch as you're in the middle of pouring steamed milk in a cup of espresso.

Your co-workers chuckled under their breaths as they manned their own stations, the barista on cashier turned to you and said, “Okay Ms. popular, who’s blowing up your phone like that?” before smiling and turning back to the next customer in line to take their order.

You laughed awkwardly at the rhetorical question and quickly lidded the latte before passing it to the barista calling out completed orders. Before you could reach into your apron pocket to silence your D.D.D, your shift manager calls your name as he stands next to you.

“Y/n, do you need to step off the floor to take that? Your first break is coming up anyway. I’ll take over for you.” Your shift manager spoke as he looked at you with concern.

Embarrassed, you nodded and headed straight to the break room in back of the coffee shop. You quickly pull the D.D.D from your apron, and find the silent move button on the side and push it. It was the first time it had been silent in a long time. You open your phone to 7 missed calls and 30 unread de-mmunication messages.

It’s at that moment you’ve had enough. Despite the silence, notification bars were still appearing at the top of the screen. You quickly tap the settings app on the D.D.D and open the notifications tab, before switching the phone and chat push notifications to off. You sighed in relief and opened the de-comm app, ignoring everyone’s messages as you opened the House of Lamentations group chat.

House of Lamentation (8)

You: I’m at work right now, stop spamming my D.D.D!

You: *angry demon sticker*

You close the group chat, then proceed to open your other group chat with Diavolo and Barbatos.

The Royals

You: I need your help.

You: The brothers keep spamming my D.D.D with phone calls and messages! Do either of you know a way to help this so I don’t have to keep my notifications off?

Barbatos: Nice to hear from you, Y/n.

Barbatos: Oh my, that doesn’t sound too good.

Barbatos: Rest assured, My Lord and I will think of something.

You: *celebrate demon sticker*

Diavolo: Y/n, it’s been some time! How are you?

Diavolo: No need to worry, Barbatos and I will solve your issue in no time.

You: Thank you! I’m doing well.

You: I would stay to talk longer, but I have to head back to work.

You: I’ll message you again soon!

You: *happy demon sticker*

Diavolo: *okay demon sticker*

Barbatos: My Lord, it’s time to finish your paperwork for the day.

Diavolo: *sad demon sticker*

You close your D.D.D as you head back to the barista counter, feeling infinitely better.

Later that night unbeknownst to you, the group chat with the seven brothers and the royals is active.

New Chat (2): The Demon Brothers and The Demon Lord

Diavolo: It’s come to my attention that you all have been bombarding Y/n’s D.D.D with messages and calls frequently.

Diavolo: To prevent this from further occurring, today we will set some guidelines for you to follow or your D.D.D’s will be temporarily blocked from contacting Y/n for a while as penalty, understood?
