“So, Azure, right?”

Summary:

“I can smell those pesky stars on you.” Dust breathed, eye flaming with blue and red magic that occasionally mixed and intertwined into a royal violet. “So you better not get too comfortable, *Az*. I’ll figure out what your deal is sooner or later, and if you even so much as *think* about hurting the others, you’re gonna have a—“

“Bad time, yes, yes, I’m aware.” Az cut him off rather dismissively, sighing in disappointment under his breath.

Work Text:

“So, Azure, right?” Az looked over at the hooded skeleton he hadn’t noticed come in. Dust was leaning against a wall, staring at him from the shadows of his hood. “Az is fine.” He answered casually, continuing to unpack. Dust hummed lowly. “I’m Dust.” Az chuckled softly. “I’m well aware of who you are. Did you need something?” “Yeah. I got some questions.” He slowly approached, and Az noticed the handle of a knife poking out of his sweatpants pocket. “Why are you here. Why did the boss let you in?” His voice was quieter now, the threatening hiss of a snake that matched his demeanor. Az merely shrugged. “We have an arrangement, what does it matter to you?” There was a near-silent growl and he suddenly found a cold metal blade pressed to his neck. He froze and his gaze snapped to the skeleton beside him, but he remained calm.

“Bad time, yes, yes, I’m aware.” Az cut him off rather dismissively, sighing in disappointment under his breath. “Listen, my past ties have nothing to do with who I am now, and I wouldn’t hurt your friends.” Dust seemed displeased that he referred to them as such, but he continued before he could comment on it, “I’m just looking for a place to stay a couple nights, then I’ll be on my way and you’ll never have to see me again.” He finished unpacking the bag he’d brought and turned to face Dust directly, the tip of the blade scraping against his neck as he did so, though he didn’t seem to notice, much less care. The hooded skeleton seemed to falter slightly as Az’s full, collected yet cold gaze locked onto him, his posture making him seem even taller than he already was — 5’6, extraordinary for a Sans.

Dust shrunk back, sheathing his weapon back into his pocket and eyeflame fading. “Fine.” He mumbled after a long hesitance, then turned on his heel and vanished, leaving behind a few particles of his namesake that had shed from the thick layer that coated his clothes.

Once alone, Az let out a louder, more exhausted sigh, rubbing his right eyesocket, fingers gliding over the large crack below it.

This was going to be a long month.
