Dirty Laundry

Summary:

Izuku Midoriya couldn't be a hero. Now, he puts his brains to use digging up dirty laundry for BirdsEye Media. Come inside and see what a 'normal' day looks like for him!

Notes:

Heyyyy, it's me, literally no one!
I was listening to the song Dirty laundry and I was like, what if Izuku was head of a News corporation, instead of being a hero? My brain kinda just ran with it from there and now we have this!
( ~---------^---------~ <---This means the PoV changes)
Happy reading!

Work Text:

*Click* The door to EagleEye Media swings open easily. The building’s been populated since early that morning in order to get the morning issue out on the streets in time for the morning rush. Izuku can hear the rumble of the printers and the faint bustle from the morning shift deep in the annals of the building.

Usually now would be the time he'd be freaked out and nervous about the first edition being published. Worrying if he missed something or if someone got their facts wrong and he didn’t notice. That wasn’t a problem today though, he had reviewed it until his eyes crossed last night and got his editor Hiretsuda to check it twice. Of course, the skirt his receptionist had decided to wear that day also stopped his overthinking that morning.

“HIMIKO! I know it’s casual Friday but that’s still breaking the rules. Go to the Lost and found and change into something that covers a little more!”

Himiko just looked coyly over her shoulder from where she had leaned over to straighten some magazines.

“Sorry boss, you know how… forgetful~ I am”

He glares at her, pointedly not looking down, before speaking.

“Once you're done changing out that skirt in my office. You can come by at the end of the day to pick it up, and if you're good today, maybe you’ll get a reward too.”

That caught Himiko’s attention. She stood up and came over to him, splaying her right hand over his chest, her left one wandering close to his belt.

“Oooh, what kind of reward, boss-chan?~” she says sultrily.

Izuku smirks “Not getting fired. Now, get to changing.” She huffs good naturedly before making her way to the Lost and found around the corner.

Before she disappears from sight he calls, “Oh, and, if you see Hachisuka, send her up! I wanna talk!” Himiko nods, and Izuku starts walking toward the elevator. He’s startled by the sudden appearance of Hiretsuda by his side.

“She seriously wants to get into your pants, boss man. She's also smokin’ hot, why dontcha let her? Are you really that oblivious?” The taller man pokes his cheek in question and Izuku rolls his eyes.

“I'm not paying her to seduce me, Hiretsuda, I'm paying her to be a decent receptionist. If she wants to fuck me, she can work toward that in her downtime.”

He chuckles as they step into the elevator. Izuku jabs at the button for the top floor, where the newsroom is.

“Besides, she has to be dressed at least decently today, there's a new guy and today's his trial run.” Hiretsuda perks up at this, which, fair. They don’t often get new guys, and everybody enjoys toying with them, at least a little bit.

“So, are you gonna welcome him to the team, or am I gonna play top dog today?” The spindly editor questions. Izuku smirks up at the man, who starts laughing, clutching his coffee to his chest.

“What'd he do in the interview to piss you off? Usually you let 'em get acclimated to us before you let us loose.”

“He said some… interesting things yesterday, and I'm curious to see what’ll happen today. You’ll be playing the big boss, but Chitose will be second in command. You don’t have to tell him that, though.” Hiretsuda starts cackling again, ready to cause some chaos.

As the elevator dings and opens to reveal the news floor, Izuku says “Himiko will send him up when he arrives, try not to kill him.” Before making his way to his seat in the corner of the room. Hiretsuda chuckles again before going to take his position in the boss man’s office.

                       ~---------^---------~

Kudo Orokana was ready. It was his first day at his new job. He was gonna be a reporter! Sure, it was at some third rate company, and even the employer seemed lackluster, but it was an entry level job so it couldn't be too good. Once they learned of his quirk, Journalist, he'd be guaranteed the manager spot in no time.

He stepped into the shiny building, striding up to the receptionists desk with confidence. She was facing away from him, doing something computer-y, so he took the chance to catalog her appearance. She was wearing a pretty floral blouse with roses on it, it hugged her waist and had loose flowy sleeves. Her skirt was blood red and went a little below her knees, paired together, it accentuated her hourglass figure, though as she turned around, he could see she fell a little flat.

She smiled at him, which turned him off even more, she had fangs and the creepiest smile! Why would they let this weirdo work here? Oh well, better to get this over with and go claim his rightful spot as manager so he could get to firing her.

                        ~---------^---------~

Himiko could feel the eyes on her and it made her skin crawl. So this was why Izu-kun had made her put on a longer skirt, even though she hadn’t worn a very short one that morning. Eventually, she steeled her courage and turned around.

“Hello! How can I help you today, Mister?” She asked, with an overly cheery tone, trying not to gag as he made a face of disgust when he saw her smile.

“I'm here for my first day. Where's the boss?” His polite tone barely disguised the underlying revulsion, and his smile was clearly fake. Still, she gave him directions to the elevator, and the boss’ office. Hopefully that creep won't decide to stay after today.

                         ~---------^---------~

Kudo made his way up the elevator to the sixth floor. He ran over the instructions from the receptionist freak, sixth floor, straight ahead at the back of the room, knock before entering. As the doors opened with a pleasant chime he took in the sight of the first real newsroom he’d ever been in.

People ran to and fro, carrying large stacks of paper and half full coffee mugs. Everyone at a desk was either writing furiously, on the phone with someone, or both. There were people talking animatedly with each other to his left, and a shout about something echoes from his right.

Whoever this manager was, if this was how they ran their newsroom, they seriously needed his expertise! Someone bumped into him, making him run into someone else who dropped their packet of paper which flew everywhere and caused a third person to trip, fall, and spill their coffee all over the papers, floor and Kudo’s shoes.

He grimaced at the coffee staining his suede flats, wiping them off on the papers scattered below, before walking to the back of the room. He ignored the shouts and grumbles from the people near the entrance. Once he was manager they wouldn’t have the guts to complain anymore, and if they did, well, he could just fire them.

                         ~---------^---------~

Izuku stared critically at the kid standing in front of the elevator. He couldn’t be more than 16, and apparently, he was extremely arrogant too. He had shown up dressed like this was a red carpet event. He was wearing a full blue suit, with a silk tie and handkerchief, and a watch caught the light on his wrist as he checked the time.

Izuku winced minutely as Banpu bumped into him from behind, causing him to stumble into Tsumazuku and make them drop all their papers. Unfortunately that made Aki fall on her face, spilling her coffee everywhere.       Banpu hurried to help her up while Tsumazuku began gathering papers. Izuku watched as Orokana paid no mind to any of that, instead wiping his shoes on Tsuma’s papers, before walking toward the office where Hiretsuda and Chitose waited. He sighed, not ready to deal with the shitshow today was sure to be, and went to help Tsumazuku pick up papers.

                        ~---------^---------~

Kudo opened the door to the office, quickly taking note of his surroundings. The office was luxurious and elegant. The back wall was completely made of windows, and the other three were lined with awards and bookshelves. In front of the window wall there was a desk. A tall dark haired man in a suit, sat there, something on his computer held all his attention. No matter, Kudo would soon be the focus of the man's mind.

A lady in a fluffy jacket and long black dress stood next to the desk, by the wall. She was making coffee, her blue skin and purple hair stood out against the dark wood of the room. He wondered why this place had hired so many freaky people, first the fanged receptionist, now this weird blue chick? No matter, he could get rid of anyone he wanted once he claimed the manager role. First step, show confidence. As much as he didn't want to interact with any mutants, he could do it for his end goal.

“Hey, toots, make me a coffee. Black, 3 sugars.” He sat down with a comfortable smirk, arms resting on the sides of the cushioned chair, legs crossed with an air of confidence.

                      ~---------^---------~

Chitose did not like the new hire. She hadn’t even met him yet and he already pissed her off. She had seen him cause Tsuma to trip, which in turn made Aki spill her coffee all over Tsuma’s papers. Girls had to stick together, so she'd already planned a bit of revenge, but when he ordered her to make him some coffee and then promptly ignored her, that really ticked her off!

Over the course of his talk with Hiretsuda she got continually more peeved. Everything out of his mouth was arrogant, quirkist, or just plain offensive. Then, Hiretsuda dropped a bomb, she’d be the one taking Kudo out on his first assignment! She scowled at him over Orokana’s head. The man pushed up his glasses and looked slightly apologetic, not enough though. Nevermind, she'd get her revenge on him later, for now she'll have to deal with this quirkist creep.

                      ~---------^---------~

Kudo thought the interview was going pretty well, he played it confidently and his new boss seemed to like him. The man revealed that Kudo would be going out today with a more experienced reporter so he could get a feel for the field. Kudo expected his boss to call in one of the professional looking people outside. He did not expect for him to gesture to the blue chick from earlier.

He introduced her “This is Chitose Kizuki, our star reporter and the face of the agency. She may not be a blonde, but she's certainly a bombshell!”

Kudo forced down a scowl and pasted a sunny smile on his face, he stood up and introduced himself, she looked him over before ordering him to follow her. He grimaced but complied, following her out of the boss’ office. He hoped they got to do something exciting today. Maybe he could ditch her, show some initiative, and find a better story than her. That’d probably get him promoted quickly.

                         ~---------^---------~

Hiretsuda smiled at a job well done. He didn’t immediately fire Kudo, he sicced him on Chitose, and he delivered a wonderful one liner. He couldn’t be more proud of himself! Maybe he should ask Izuku for a raise?

                         ~---------^---------~

There was no way Hiretsuda was getting a raise for this. Izuku thought to himself as he reviewed the day’s progress reports. Somehow, after Hiretsuda had foisted Orokana off onto Chitose, the intern had managed to earn himself a multimillion dollar lawsuit, time in jail, and most concerningly, both of them were for breaking into UA! Izuku knows it’s not completely Hiretsuda or Chitose’s fault. After Chitose filled him in on the day’s events he could clearly see that it was Orokana’s fault.

He had been the one who refused to leave UA property after the break in, which was in no way the reporters fault, Chitose assured him. Chitose and her camera man had tried to take him off the property with them once they were asked to leave, but he refused to listen. That ended up with him in jail and facing a serious lawsuit.

It was safe to say that BirdsEye Media would not be hiring Kudo Orokana for any position. Hiretsuda Namaikina would also not be getting a raise. At least everyone was happy Orokana wasn’t being hired. Even without the breaking into UA thing, he still probably wouldn't be hired, too many comments that toed the line of quirkist. Hiring someone like that just wouldn’t sit well with him.

                       ~---------^---------~

A few days after Kudo’s trial run, he returned to the BirdsEye Media building to follow up. He had gotten an email saying he wasn’t hired, but surely that wasn’t correct. So, he decided to check in in person, to make sure they realized their mistake.

He didn’t spare the freaky receptionist a second glance, instead making his way to the elevator. Quickly the elevator rose up to the sixth floor, opening to reveal a short tired green haired man holding a cup of coffee. The guy slurped his coffee as he stared at him before saying “I thought I fired you, why are you back here?”

Kudo scoffed, “You can’t fire me, that’s the manager's job, and you’re not him.” As he finished saying that Hiretsuda appeared behind the tired boy, holding a stack of papers. “Didn’t you fire him, Boss?” The short boss guy in front nodded, holding back a smirk as Kudo’s face paled.

“Wh-whu, no, y-you’re the boss Hiretsuda-san, n-not wh-whoever this guy is!” Kudo spluttered. Hiretsuda smirked before walking away, leaving him at the mercy of the big boss. “Actually, Orokana, I am not the boss. My name’s Izuku Midoriya, owner of BirdsEye Media, and if you did not receive my previous email regarding this, then let it be known that you are fired and no longer allowed on the premises. Have a nice day.” He then stepped past him into the elevator, ignoring any protests he might have.
