hate isn’t the emotion between us

Summary:

everyone seems to think wonjin hates koo jungmo, but truthfully that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

or; in which everyone seems to think that Wonjin only tolerates Jungmo due to their overlapping friend group, only no one seems to realize they’re a lot closer behind closed doors than they think.

Work Text:

"Can you two stop bickering for a second and pay attention?" A voice groaned tossing a pencil in the direction of Wonjin and Jungmo.

The two had just got into another brief argument over who’s name should come first on the slides, Jungmo, thought it should be his because he’s the one typing them, Wonjin refused and said it should be his because he’s done the most work and it works better alphabetically.

"This is important!" Wonjin said defensively.

"I’ll put my name first," Woobin said, grabbing the computer from Jungmo. "Then I’m putting Allen’s, then Wonjin’s and lastly Jungmo’s." he said.

Jungmo groaned. "That’s unfair! you only did that because you like him better." he glared crossing his arms.

Woobin shrugged unbothered.

Wonjin grinned at Jungmo obnoxiously, leaning back as the older tried to poke at him. "Leave me alone," he groaned shoving him away.

"Why did we agree to partner with them?" Woobin asked giving them both a weird grimace before turning to Allen.

"Because they’re our friends and we share this class," Allen answered, sighing as he glanced back at them. "Plus we can just give the worst parts to them."

"Hey," Wonjin said frowning. "Give it to him, he started it."

"Childish." Jungmo grumbled moving back to his seat.

"You both are." Woobin deadpanned. "Now, can you two at least tolerate each other for five minutes while Allen and I go to the library to make copies? Just head to the lounge and grab a table, we’ll get lunch with the others." he suggested.

"Yes sir," Jungmo raised in hands in surrender as he stood up, Wonjin sighing and following after him.

"Don’t fight please!" Allen called out, sending a pleading look at Wonjin.

"Why are you only telling me that?" Wonjin frowned, scrunching his nose up.

Allen blinked, giving him a look of disbelief. "Come on Wonjin." he said shaking his head.

Wonjin rolled his eyes deciding not to answer as he turned and shoved Jungmo forward, just barely managing to overhear Woobin wishing they’d just finally decide whether to kill or kiss each other.

"Your friend thinks we should kiss," Wonjin said as soon as they were out of earshot, they had just left the small classroom when Jungmo turned and raised an eyebrow, puckering his lips leaning forward.

"Go away," Wonjin grumbled shoving the older back by his chest.

"As if you weren’t just pouting for me to kiss you this morning," Jungmo mumbled rolling his eyes dramatically.

Wonjin felt himself flush, quickly glancing around before punching Jungmo’s arm, glaring. "Shut up." he hissed out embarrassed.

"It’s just me!" Jungmo groaned rubbing his arm, frowning at Wonjin. "My boyfriend is so mean."

Wonjin bit his lip as he looked away, grumbling to himself as he sighed allowing Jungmo to interlock their hands in the empty hallway.

"Cute," Jungmo murmured pinching Wonjin’s ears. "You still blush when I bring up us dating now." he whispered.

Wonjin turned sending the older a glare. He did still blush, but it wasn’t like they had been dating long anyways, so it was understandable.

Plus, Jungmo was all talk, he still gets just as flustered.

"You’re so annoying," Wonjin groaned.

"You love me." Jungmo shrugged.

"Whatever," Wonjin huffed, silently squeezing Jungmo’s hand in response.

Wonjin wasn’t as good with saying things as Jungmo was, which was why more often than not it was Wonjin who was flustered when Jungmo said something and why Jungmo was flustered when Wonjin showed any affection physically.

It worked for them.

"Do you think Woobin will kill us himself when he learns we’ve been kissing while he still thinks we may kill each other?" Jungmo asked tilting his head in question.

"Just because I kiss you doesn’t mean you don’t annoy me enough for me to kill you," Wonjin refuted.

Jungmo rolled his eyes pulling Wonjin closer to knock their shoulders against each other, squeezing his hand once before dropping it gently as they reached the lounge. It wasn’t super busy, but Wonjin had long since expressed his desire to keep it between them for a while, just until he feels more comfortable and confident in himself. "You would miss me too much," he replied.

"Maybe." Wonjin shrugged, taking the lead as they made way over to where the rest of their friends were already sitting, he was quick to take the empty seat between Hyeongjun and Seongmin as Jungmo sat across from him, in between Minhee and Serim.

"You two walked here together? Alone? And it didn’t end in Wonjin strangling Jungmo?" Taeyoung asked glancing between the two impressed. "Wow." he added.

"I would never murder him in broad daylight," Wonjin retorted, reaching to grab a piece of fruit from Hyeongjun’s fruit cup. "Hyeongjun and I have a plan."

"To murder me?" Jungmo asked raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah," Hyeongjun shrugged. "Minhee’s in it too."

Minhee paused, his chicken just barely grazing his lips as he looked at the two. "As in an accomplice or another victim?" he asked narrowing his eyes.

"Depends on the day." Hyeongjun shrugged.

Minhee blinked glancing from Hyeongjun and Wonjin to Jungmo. "You’re putting me in the same boat as him?" he asked offended.

"I’m literally your best friend?" Jungmo said confused.

"No, Hyeongjun is. Woobin’s the runner up, while you and Seongmin fight for third." Minhee explained.

"Seongmin can’t stand you and Hyeongjun just said he plans to murder you sometimes." Jungmo pouted.

"It’s mutual," Minhee shrugged, finally biting into his chicken.

"No one here appreciates me." Jungmo huffed shaking his head.

"At least you finally acknowledge it," Woobin said sliding into his seat before passing down two papers to Wonjin and Jungmo. "We separated the project in three parts. You two will work on lyrics while Allen and I work on the sound and do all the composing parts. Lastly we’ll put it together and decide who’s performing it."

"Wait, why are Wonjin and I working together?" Jungmo asked confused. "Shouldn’t we balance it out to gain more knowledge on each part?" he asked.

"Yeah, I want to work with Allen." Wonjin said.

Allen smiled. "Aw, Wonjin i’d love to work with you," he started pausing as Woobin sent him a look and shook his head. "Right, No it’s better this way. We both have more experience in both but I’m more confident in my composing skills, while Woobin in his writing. You gave the leader card to Woobin so he decided it this way." he explained.

Serim glanced worryingly between the two. "Is that smart?" he asked frowning.

"Relax, they’ll be fine." Woobin said shrugging. "Jungmo doesn’t actually hate Wonjin and Wonjin cares too much about this class to let his personal feelings get in the way." he explained.

Wonjin rolled his eyes, not even bothering to touch on why it was him they suspected really hated Jungmo. He grabbed Hyeongjun’s arm, tugging him gently as he folded the project paper in his pocket. "Please?" he asked, gesturing towards the food section.

"Fine," Hyeongjun groaned.

"What should we write about?" Wonjin asked, shifting to fold his legs on the couch, Jungmo’s head falling back to rest on his knee.

Jungmo hummed as Wonjin ran a hand through his hair. "A love song?" he suggested, grinning widely.

Wonjin made a show of pulling Jungmo’s hair harder, ignoring his yelp. "Like that wouldn’t be obvious." he scoffed.

Jungmo pulled Wonjin’s hand away, holding it gently as he twisted to face him. "No think about it, imagine the two people they think can’t stand each other make a love song together. It’s hilarious." he pointed out before shrugging. "Plus, maybe you’ll want to be public by the time the project is due." he added quieter.

Wonjin hummed as he considered that. It would be a funny way to tell their friends they were together, and the project itself wasn't for around a month so maybe..

"Okay," Wonjin said nodding. "Let’s do it." he shrugged.

Jungmo grinned, placing a small kiss on Wonjin’s hand rolling his eyes dramatically as Wonjin let out a fake gag despite the burning of his ears. "Annoying." Jungmo mumbled.

Wonjin leaned down to make up for it with a kiss but cleared his throat gently pushing Jungmo away as he heard the door being unlocked, Jungmo quickly taking the hint and scooting across the floor to sit resting against the other side of the couch.

"Oh hey!" Hyeongjun greeted, carrying bags of takeout followed by Minhee carrying a bag from a convenience store. "And hello?" he added confused glancing at Jungmo.

"Project." Wonjin shrugged. "What did you order?" he asked.

"Your usual," Hyeongjun answered frowning as he glanced at Jungmo. "We didn’t get you anything."

Jungmo shrugged. "I’m not hungry." he replied pretending to focus back on his empty notebook as Hyeongjun and Minhee unloaded the small bags on the living room table.

Wonjin glared a moment later as Jungmo reached across his lap to grab one of the churros. "Hey! you said you weren’t hungry." he huffed.

"I’m not, this is dessert." Jungmo grinned back taking a bite.

Wonjin rolled his eyes glancing at Hyeongjun and Minhee occupied by a round of rock paper scissors deciding who was going to get the bigger portion of their shared chicken order before he kicked Jungmo’s thigh gently gesturing to his chopsticks and his portion of chicken.

Jungmo shook his head smiling gently before clearing his throat. "You two are loud." he said turning his attention to Hyeongjun and Minhee.

"You two argue anytime you’re together but we’re the loud ones?" Minhee asked scrunching his nose up.

"We’re not arguing right now," Jungmo pointed out rolling his eyes.

"Yeah because he’s stuffing his face and you’re burying your nose in that notebook. You’re practically half a room apart." Minhee said gesturing between the two.

Wonjin rolled his eyes. "You only make it a big deal when it comes to us." he grumbled.

"We just want all of our friends to get along now that we’re dating!" Hyeongjun groaned.

"You started dating two weeks ago and broke up five minutes ago," Jungmo pointed out unimpressed. "Wonjin and I have been friends for far longer since way back when he and Woobin were in student council together in high school." he pointed out.

"Okay we separated for three days a couple of days ago that is not breaking up," Minhee started.

"Well.." Hyeongjun shrugged before falling silent, popping another piece of chicken in his mouth.

"You’re not a sitcom couple." Wonjin said shaking his head.

"Also you two aren’t friends." Minhee said changing the topic back.

"We are." Jungmo said ignoring Wonjin’s eyes boring into the side of his face.

"You practically can’t stand being in the same room together," Hyeongjun said raising an eyebrow before cocking his head to the side. "Or well, Wonjin can’t at least."

"We’re in the same room right now." Wonjin said shrugging.

"Exactly." Jungmo chimed in.

Hyeongjun glanced back and forth glaring. "It’s weirder when you two team up. Wonjin go back to insulting his hair cut or something." he pouted.

Wonjin hummed. "That was an issue a week ago, I’ll find another soon." he shrugged.

"So annoying." Jungmo grumbled shaking his head.

"You’re easy to tease." Wonjin shrugged.

"He is." Minhee agreed.

"I’m leaving." Jungmo said glaring at them both.

"Okay." Hyeongjun said taking another bite of chicken, chewing as he blinked at Jungmo. "See you tomorrow."

Jungmo sighed glancing at Minhee who shrugged and gave a wave of hand, groaning he finally turned to Wonjin who was just staring back at him with a blank look. "Seriously? We haven’t even started on the project." he said glaring.

"We’re meeting tomorrow in the library, today was just a meeting to see what we’re doing." Wonjin shrugged.

Jungmo looked at him unimpressed, dodging as Wonjin flicked a piece of trash at him. "Seriously?" he said glancing at the closed door on the other side of the room.

Wonjin rolled his eyes. "Fine, help me carry this to my room and we can start on the project." he shrugged.

"I’m not eating it why should I carry it?" Jungmo frowned.

"Jungmo grab the rice and come on." Wonjin sighed sending an unimpressed glare at the other.

"Feisty." Hyeongjun mumbled watching as Jungmo rolled his eyes yet reached for the rice as he kept the notebook in his other hand. "If I hear yelling and sudden silence i’m turning my head the other way."

"What if it’s Wonjin falling silent?" Jungmo said raising an eyebrow.

"He hates you more, you wouldn’t be capable of doing that." Hyeongjun shrugged.

"I don’t—" Wonjin sighed shaking his head. "Come on Jungmo." he said ignoring the other two as they fell back into a quiet argument over who should get which of the two drinks they had ordered.

Once they were back in Wonjin’s room, Jungmo quickly sat the rice down before tossing himself backwards on the bed. "I should stay the night." he said glancing up at Wonjin.

"We agreed not to do that unless everyone was out of one of our dorms." Wonjin said quietly, patting Jungmo’s legs as he scooted himself on the bed until his back hit the headboard, Jungmo quickly twisting around so his head was resting on Wonjin’s thigh.

"Should we leave the song till tomorrow then?" Jungmo asked rubbing at his eyes. "We have the topic, maybe we can spend some time and think about what we should write." he shrugged.

Wonjin nodded, glancing down at Jungmo. "Are we writing about love in general? Or.. us?" he asked quietly.

"Either. Both." Jungmo shrugged. "We don’t have to make it too personal, but maybe including things we think or we’ve experienced can help." he answered, his ears turning brighter. "Is it weird I’m scared?"

"To write a song?"

"For them to eventually find out we’re together."

Wonjin frowned at the way Jungmo hesitantly looked up at him, sighing he shook his head. "I’m scared too." he said shrugging. "And nervous." he added.

"We know they’ll be supportive though." Jungmo pointed out.

"True, but we’ve already hidden it for so long it’s understandable if they feel a bit conflicted about it. And they still weirdly assume I hate you." Wonjin grumbled.

Jungmo hummed. "You could be a bit nicer." he said sighing dramatically.

"It’s how I show affection! I tease everyone." Wonjin frowned.

Jungmo shrugged.

"You don’t get special treatment just for being my boyfriend." Wonjin said glaring.

"That’s exactly why I should get special treatment." Jungmo said rolling his eyes.

"You do, in other ways," Wonjin said shrugging. "You see a lot of sides to me that others haven’t."

"It’s mutual." Jungmo said grinning softly, reaching over and squeezing Wonjin’s hand gently. "You should finish eating. I’m gonna head back to my dorm." he added.

"Oh really?" Wonjin asked, forcing away a small ounce of complaint as he nodded. "We’ll talk more about the song tomorrow. Think on it." he said.

"Okay," Jungmo said rolling over as he pushed himself up, glancing back at the closed door before leaning in and gently placing his lips on Wonjin’s, humming contently as Wonjin’s hands gently grabbed onto his shoulder keeping him in place.

Jungmo still pulled back after a second, grinning accomplished at the small annoyed sound Wonjin didn’t manage to hide. "Your rule remember. No long kisses when roommates are home." he teased.

"Since when do you listen to me?" Wonjin asked rolling his eyes before shoving Jungmo back, the older laughing as he rolled himself out of bed.

"I’ll see you tomorrow." Jungmo said grabbing his bag as he stuffed his laptop back into it.

"Mhm," Wonjin said nodding, already reaching for his dinner again. "Tell Hyeongjun I said to ditch Minhee and come in here."

"Sure" Jungmo laughed shaking his head as he headed out of the room, gently shutting the door behind him.

"Wait you’re ditching me?" Hyeongjun asked frowning as he hit Wonjin’s shoulder repeatedly. "I don’t want to be stuck with Minhee."

"Just for a little." Wonjin shrugged. "Jungmo has a shift at that music store after his classes today so we agreed to just meet for lunch in the library to go over some lyrics." he explained.

"Does he work with that one girl today?" Minhee asked looking up.

"Why would you care?" Hyeongjun asked raising an eyebrow.

"And how would I know?" Wonjin asked frowning. "I don’t even think I know which one you’re specifically talking about." he said frowning.

"You literally used to work there too.." Minhee sighed shaking his head as he twisted towards them, finally interested in the conversation. "That girl with the super long hair, like the exact female copy of Jungmo? Remember she had a huge embarrassing crush on Wonjin in high school?" he explained.

"You didn’t even go to high school with Wonjin, or that girl." Hyeongjun glared.

Minhee waved vaguely. "Jungmo told me about it," he said shrugging. "But anyways, he was telling me the other day that she told him that she likes one of us, like out of the friend group but she won’t tell him who and my gut says it’s him." he rambled.

"Jungmo’s been out since high school." Wonjin pointed out unimpressed. "You should get better gossip."

Minhee glared. "Then who else?"

"Maybe one of you." Wonjin said, grinning proudly as they glared at each other. "Is this the part where you both act like you wouldn’t care if it was the other?"

"I don’t care." Hyeongjun shrugged. "I am so over him."

"We’re literally dating?" Minhee said confused.

"Are we?" Hyeongjun asked wiggling his eyebrows.

Minhee blinked. "Yes?" he said, glancing at Wonjin. "We are right?" he asked.

"Wonjin has no love life or experience don’t ask him." Hyeongjun said.

"And Wonjin is leaving," Jungmo chimed in finally approaching the table, slinging an arm around Wonjin’s shoulder. "And you are dating. You texted me at four a.m a week and a half ago telling me you were back together."

"How do you remember when exactly?" Hyeongjun asked furrowing his eyebrows.

Wonjin pursed his lips as he glanced away, even he knew exactly when as they had been together when Jungmo got the text. "Anyways we have a song to write." he said standing up, shaking his shoulder causing Jungmo’s arm to fall off.

"Is it going to be about secretly wanting to rip the head off of your best friends boyfriends friend?" Hyeongjun asked.

"Too explicit." Wonjin sighed rubbing his side as Jungmo elbowed him. "Plus it’s not as fun talking with him directly about it. We’ll just have to figure something else out."

"Isn’t it weird you’re making a song together and one of you might not perform it?" Minhee asked curiously.

Jungmo hesitated before shaking his head. "It’s why we agreed it shouldn’t be too personal and Woobin said it’s a good idea too. Plus they’re composing so it’s their song just as much as it is ours." he shrugged before glancing over at Wonjin. "Plus I think Wonjin and Woobin are both performing it." he added.

"Really?" Hyeongjun asked excited. "I need to record Woobin! Oh i’m so excited." he clapped.

"Hello?" Wonjin said glaring.

"I hear you sing all the time." Hyeongjun said waving his hand dismissively.

Wonjin rolled his eyes. "Whatever, it’s not even confirmed anyways. We’re still discussing." he said.

"Jungmo seems sure of it." Minhee snorted.

Jungmo nodded. "All four of us voted, Wonjin got three and Woobin got one." he said.

Wonjin groaned, reaching to tug on Jungmo’s sleeve. "It’s not confirmed." he said glaring at all three of them. "And if it is, you should record me! i’m your best friend." he complained to Hyeongjun.

"Woobin’s my favorite!" Hyeongjun called out as Wonjin dragged Jungmo towards the exit.

"How should we do this?" Wonjin asked twirling his pencil around on the table, his chair facing Jungmo as they stared at the blank doc on his computer screen.

Jungmo glanced at his empty notebook and sighed. "Did you think of if you wanted to make it personal or not?" he asked quietly.

Wonjin groaned a second later, his hands coming up to his face embarrassed. "Okay, I actually came up with something but it's bad." he mumbled, flipping to the back of his notebook glancing at Jungmo hesitantly. "I just um, started thinking about us and you."

Jungmo bit back a smile as he nodded. "I wrote something too but it's pretty small I wasn't sure if we'd use it."

"You first." Wonjin said.

"What? No, you mentioned yours first." Jungmo refuted.

"Fine. Rock paper scissors."

It took two tries, but Jungmo pumped his fist in the air to celebrate his victory as Wonjin groaned thumping his head onto the table. "Can I take it back?" he grumbled. "This feels so weird and awkward."

"Come on, I'm not going to judge. you're good at this Wonjin." Jungmo said softly.

Wonjin sighed lifting his head. "That's completely different. I've never.. shown lyrics to someone when they inspired them." he grumbled.

"Wonjin, I love you and all of my lyrics for the past three years have been inspired by you." Jungmo said seriously, reaching up to fix a piece of hair that had sprawled over to the other side.

"We haven't even been dating three years," Wonjin grumbled embarrassed.

"No, but I've liked you for that long, if not longer." Jungmo said shrugging. "Show me." he murmured.

"Fine." Wonjin huffed, flicking the page open and sliding the notebook over. "If you laugh I'm dumping you."

Jungmo made a show of zipping his lips before grabbing the notebook, grinning as he read the lyrics.

Nobody but you can cause this burst of emotion

Wonjin groaned snatching the notebook back. "It's stupid." he shrugged.

"No, it's not. It’s cute and relatable." Jungmo murmured, looking around before quickly placing a quick kiss on Wonjin's cheek. "I think they'll go well together in the same song." he shrugged, clicking on his computer before turning it.

For you, I'll always say yes
I don't know what this emotion is, say what you know

Wonjin let out a long sigh as he glanced from the computer to Jungmo, not saying anything.

Jungmo flinched taking the computer back. "Okay I didn’t think it was that terrible.." he mumbled, reaching to scratch his neck awkwardly.

"Shut up it’s not bad at all," Wonjin said, glancing around before leaning up and connecting their lips, it was quick, leaving Wonjin unsure that it really showed how much he liked the lyrics so he moved to place another kiss on Jungmo’s cheek.

"Yeah?" Jungmo asked unsure, reaching to pull at his ears embarrassed.

"Yes," Wonjin said confidently before narrowing his eyes. "Also we said we weren’t going to be that personal but how did we both mention emotions? Especially with you being unsure what the emotion is. Are we seriously referencing when we were dancing around each other for a straight four months after you kissed me?" he asked rolling his eyes.

"Hey, I’m sure lots of people have those struggles too!" Jungmo said confidently.

Wonjin shrugged as he glanced back at his notebook. "what about it being some unfamiliar feeling or something you didn’t see coming?" he suggested.

"You didn’t think you’d like me?" Jungmo asked placing a hand over his heart. "I’m hurt." he sighed.

Wonjin glared. "I mean, no?" he said scrunching his nose up. "You were always cute to me, but you were also just Woobin’s really weird really dorky friend, I didn’t think I’d see you like that." he shrugged. "Did you?" he asked.

Jungmo hummed. "I think you were always adorably cute to me. And I liked flirting with you even then just to see your reactions, but I don’t think it was ever a surprise to me when I realized." he shrugged.

Wonjin groaned. "Your flirting was insufferable."

"Hey it worked somehow!" Jungmo huffed.

"I don’t think your flirting is why I fell for you but okay," Wonjin snickered shaking his head before humming. "What about a memorable moment between us for you?" he asked.

"Mhm," Jungmo hummed. "It was before we started dating. You kept coming over to stay with Seongmin because you were having trouble sleeping and I remember passingly inviting you to my room because I knew I was staying up later at that time and Seongmin was always sleeping. You came one night, and then again the next every time Seongmin fell asleep just to chill or help me with my music assignments. But on the third night you fell asleep resting on my shoulder. You woke up all confused and flustered because you hadn’t been able to sleep anywhere else but you came back again the next night. It felt nice, you needing me." he rambled, fiddling with his shirt awkwardly.

Wonjin bit his lip as he turned away nodding. "It was your warmth I think." he mumbled. "It felt different."

"So we include warmth somehow," Jungmo said nodding. "Cute."

"What’s cute?" Woobin asked approaching the two, Allen and Serim just behind him.

"Seongmin." Wonjin and Jungmo answered.

Serim nodded in agreement. "Yeah."

"But why randomly?" Allen asked.

"It wasn't random. You just didn’t hear the rest of the conversation." Wonjin shrugged.

Jungmo nodded before clearing his throat. "Anyways what are you guys doing?"

"Lunch," Woobin answered. "But Minhee asked me to stop by because Hyeongjun was actually worried being in a mostly empty library would have you two at each others throats." he shrugged.

"Is that rumor ever going to die down?" Jungmo asked sighing.

"What rumor?" Allen asked. "It’s vibes."

"Hey, you went to high school with them, did they hate each other then too?" Serim asked nudging Woobin.

"I don’t hate Wonjin." Jungmo piped up.

"Okay, then did Wonjin hate Jungmo then too?" Serim corrected.

"I don’t—" Wonjin started rolling his eyes as Serim waved him off. "You’re making this worse." he muttered to Jungmo.

Woobin shrugged. "Not really?" he answered. "They didn’t hang out that much apart from when I invited them both, oh but Jungmo did actually— Wait, never mind. But no they never really spent time together."

Wonjin frowned. That wasn’t exactly true, they had spent time together then as well, just maybe not as much as they did after graduating. "Jungmo what?" Wonjin asked instead.

"I can’t say." Woobin said glancing at Jungmo who just glared shaking his head.

"Well, I'm starving." Allen said clapping a hand on Serim and Woobin’s shoulders, redirecting them before offering a grin to Wonjin and Jungmo. "Congrats on not killing each other thus far, I’m excited for the song."

Wonjin didn’t waste a second after they were out of the library before turning back to Jungmo. "You what?" he asked referring to Woobin cutting himself off.

Jungmo groaned. "I called you cute like one time to Woobin my senior year and he never let it go." he grumbled.

"Wait," Wonjin said. "But you said that’s when you started liking me." he pointed out.

"Exactly." Jungmo shrugged. "I mean, he didn’t know I liked you, he just knew I thought you were cute then he was also around like half the time I flirted but I haven’t said anything else to him about it since we actually got closer and things happened so I’m like ninety percent sure he thinks I've had this unreciprocated crush on you since high school." he explained embarrassed.

"Oh this is hilarious." Wonjin said shaking his head. "No wonder he gets so annoyed and gives you that weird look like he’s three seconds away from yelling."

Jungmo nodded. "He gets tired of us." he snorted.

"Me too." Wonjin said glancing at the clock. "Ten minutes left of lunch so get to writing, we’ll compare later after your shift. Hyeongjun and I are visiting Seongmin."

"Visiting?" Jungmo repeated shaking his head before turning his attention back to his computer, silence finally falling between them.

Wonjin had been lazily laying across the big couch at Jungmo, Seongmin and Woobin’s dorm when the other two residents of the dorm entered.

"How do you always do that?" Woobin asked clutching at his heart as he dropped a bag onto the counter. "Who gave you a key?" he huffed.

"Seongmin let me in this time," Wonjin replied acting oblivious to the other times Woobin had run into him being over at almost five in the morning. "What did you bring me?" he asked twisting up off the couch approaching the counter.

Wonjin let out a small hum as Jungmo stepped behind him, grazing a hand across his lower back before turning and heading into the kitchen area like he was unaware of his presence.

"Nothing you don’t live here." Woobin said.

"I’m a guest." Wonjin shrugged. "Guest services?"

"This isn’t— Wonjin go home." Woobin groaned.

Wonjin laughed, leaning his arms onto the counter as he lazily watched them move around each other in the small kitchen. "Can’t," he shrugged. "I need your roommate when he’s done if you want our project to move forward and also I promised Seongmin we could watch this new drama when he gets back."

"Take him now then. He’s in my way." Woobin said shoving Jungmo out of the kitchen.

"I was helping!" Jungmo complained, groaning as Wonjin shrugged grabbing his sleeve and pulling him towards Jungmo’s room.

"You know, sooner or later they’re gonna realize you’re weirdly comfortable hanging out here alone and going into your supposed enemies room." Jungmo said poking Wonjin’s cheek as soon as the door shut.

Wonjin shrugged. "By the time they figure anything out our song will have been performed." he replied.

"Our song," Jungmo repeated smirking as he pulled Wonjin to the bed, his arms wrapping around the younger’s waist. "Would you say the same if it was you and Allen working on the lyrics?" he asked frowning.

"Yes."

Jungmo glared before pinching at Wonjin’s hips playfully, the younger letting out a small squeal pushing him away. "Go date Allen instead." he huffed.

"And what would you do if I did?" Wonjin asked sticking his tongue out childishly before pouting, his mocking stifling as Jungmo leaned down connecting their lips.

Wonjin hummed, his body involuntarily leaning upwards into the older as his arms quickly wrapped around his shoulders, trying to bring them even closer together as Jungmo deepened the kiss, his tongue grazing Wonjin’s bottom lip momentarily before Wonjin parted his lips more, tilting his own head as his groan was muffled by Jungmo’s mouth, a hand gently pushing on his hip back to the bed.

Jungmo pulled away a second later, biting Wonjin’s lower lip gently before leaning his forehead to the younger’s as they caught their own breaths. "Roommates." Jungmo mumbled quietly, a reminder to them both.

"Stupid rule." Wonjin said weakly, his hands playing with the small nape of Jungmo’s hair on the back of his neck.

"It’s your rule." Jungmo reminded gently, squeezing Wonjin’s waist before rolling over humming as he glanced up at the ceiling. "We should write something about control." he laughed.

Wonjin rolled his eyes lifting his leg just high enough to kick at Jungmo’s shin before he pushed himself up, heading to Jungmo’s desk to grab his notebook. "Fire." he muttered tapping his pencil against the paper.

"Huh?"

"My body," Wonjin said glancing up wincing embarrassed. "It feels like I’m on fire with you sometimes. Like, I get really jittery and my stomach burns." he mumbled shrugging.

"Mine too." Jungmo replied quietly, now laying across the bed just staring at the other.

"Focus and get to writing." Wonjin glared.

"Fine." Jungmo groaned rolling over to grab his own laptop. "When’s Seongmin coming back?" he asked.

"Like an hour or two. We have time." Wonjin shrugged.

"To write lyrics for our project or to spend time together?" Jungmo asked glancing up waiting for the doc to load.

"Lyrics tonight." Wonjin said gently. "Allen told me he and Woobin have at least two half finished songs, they’re waiting to see at least a rough patch of our lyrics before they decide which route to go down." he explained.

Jungmo nodded. "Professionalism. I can do that."

Wonjin snorted before twisting around in the chair sliding back to Jungmo’s desk as he hummed, leaning down to begin writing.

We move like we're burning even more.

Wonjin was pretty sure the universe hated him.

Here they were Day-3 till the project needed to be turned in and at least two of them would be performing it and he could hardly breath out of his nose.

Wonjin coughed as he looked back at the sheet, sniffling. "It’s my line next right?" he asked glancing up, frowning at Woobin’s disgusted look.

"You’re sick." Allen said softly. "Maybe we should revise it to a solo?" he suggested.

"Why would we do that?" Wonjin asked frowning. "I’m not that sick, plus it’s more points for a duet." he added.

"Wonjin you’ve barely been able to sing an entire line without coughing or sneezing." Woobin pointed out, shrugging as he glanced around the small music room. "We have enough time to make it a solo if we need to."

"Yeah I would offer to help but it would be more risky to wait for me to learn the full song." Allen said frowning.

"Jungmo knows it," Wonjin replied, pausing long enough to cough again, wincing at himself. "He probably knows it better than I do at this point." he mumbled.

"Jungmo literally hated performing on stage in high school though." Woobin pointed out.

Wonjin shook his head, ready to explain that wasn’t true and he had his reasons for backing out back then before realizing it would probably be a little odd and hard to explain. "He’ll do it." Wonjin said instead.

"Are we sure?" Allen said tapping his knee nervously. "I mean we have enough time if we start today to revise it. We can’t wait till last minute."

"It was written as a duet," Wonjin said stubbornly. "He’ll do it."

"Fine. Then you can ask him." Woobin said.

Wonjin nodded, accepting Allen’s hand to get up before linking their arms. "He’s at lunch with Minhee and Taeyoung right now." he mumbled.

"How do you know that off the top of your head?" Allen asked confused.

Wonjin wanted to say that it was because Jungmo had texted him a picture of a two dumplings stuck together five minutes ago but instead he hummed. "Hyeongjun was complaining that Minhee didn’t eat lunch with him." he said instead.

As soon as they made it to the table Wonjin groaned, falling into the open seat next to Jungmo, not even caring that usually he would make sure he didn’t sit beside him. He let his forehead fall to the cold table.

"Is he dying?" Minhee asked.

"Yes." Jungmo said feeling the back of Wonjin’s neck. "Wait you’re actually hot." he said confused.

"Thanks, You’re not my type." Wonjin mumbled looking back up, feeling only a small ounce of enjoyment at Jungmo’s annoyed eye roll before he let out another cough, wincing again. "I need you to replace me in the duet." he said rubbing his throat.

Jungmo frowned. "What?" he said glancing back at Allen who nodded.

"You know the lyrics better than I do and Wonjin is dead set on it needing to be performed as a duet." Allen explained, as Wonjin turned and sneezed into his elbow.

"Should you even be here?" Taeyoung asked frowning.

"I’m fine." Wonjin huffed. "So?" he said glancing back at Jungmo.

"Woobin doesn’t think you will but Wonjin said you will. Either way I need an answer by like today if we’re gonna have enough time to revise it for just Woobin to sing." Allen added.

"Ooo, who will he prove right?" Taeyoung asked rubbing his hands together amused.

"I don’t think it goes as well with my voice." Jungmo said quietly glancing back at Wonjin. "Did you really have to get sick?" he grumbled.

"We sung it together originally Jungmo," Wonjin said rolling his eyes. "It fits yours just as much as mine. Plus, you have to." he mumbled quietly, fiddling with his shirt. "It’s a duet, not a solo."

"Fine." Jungmo groaned, looking back at Allen. "Leave it like it is. I already know the lyrics so i’ll just take Wonjin’s parts and we’ll perform it like we originally planned." he shrugged.

"Oh good!" Allen said sighing relieved. "I’m gonna go tell Woobin so he doesn’t accidentally break a drum set out of stress."

"Wait I actually kinda want to see him do that." Taeyoung said jumping up and following after Allen.

"Record it!" Minhee called out before glancing back at Wonjin. "You really look half dead."

"I hope Hyeongjun dumps you." Wonjin deadpanned.

Minhee gasped. "You’re mean when you’re sick." he huffed crossing his arms.

"That’s just his first stage." Jungmo laughed, blinking before he cleared his throat. "I’m guessing, I don’t know." he mumbled awkwardly.

Wonjin glared at Jungmo before laying his head back on the table. "Someone please take the sickness from me." he groaned.

"Come to my dorm after class." Jungmo murmured quietly, causing Wonjin to sit up quickly wincing as he looked around only sighing after realizing Minhee was out of his seat at the trash can. Jungmo laughed. "Relax I wouldn’t expose us in front of bad secret keeper Minhee of all people."

"If I come to yours, you’re gonna need to be in your most boyfriend mode ever." Wonjin said sniffling.

"Always." Jungmo whispered, tapping Wonjin’s thigh before scooting back a little, Minhee finally joining them again as he rambled about how unfair it was that Seongmin seemed to think that Serim was funnier than he was.

Hanging out together as a full friend group was not on Wonjin’s plans when he decided to actually go over to Jungmo’s dorm later that day.

He liked when all of them hung out together, he definitely preferred it over them splitting up into little groups every so often, but.. he also kinda really just wanted to lay in bed and cuddle his boyfriend.

Cheesy, but he was sick so he was letting it pass.

Wonjin groaned as he threw himself onto the couch, curling his legs up to his chest stealing the blanket from behind him.

"I didn’t know everyone was coming over." Jungmo said plopping down next to him.

Wonjin looked at him and nodded, having half a mind to remember where they were, what they were hiding and how he should really not just lay his head on Jungmo’s shoulder.

"Are you two conspiring or plotting each others murder?" Taeyoung asked plopping down next to Jungmo.

"Third option— Talking, because again we have been friends longer than half of you have known each other." Jungmo said leaning back against the couch, his shoulder pressed against Wonjin’s.

"Knowing each other isn’t the same as being friends." Hyeongjun pipped up from his seat on the floor.

"I give up." Jungmo groaned throwing his head back.

"On trying to befriend Wonjin?" Minhee asked snickering. "It’s okay, I'm still working on that too." he sighed.

"Okay Wonjin definitely likes me more than he likes you at least." Jungmo said shrugging.

"Mhm.." Minhee said pulling a weird face as he held up two fingers. "He likes me a bitttt more."

"Both of you are about to fight for last place if you don’t stop talking so loudly," Wonjin interrupted glancing between the two sending a glare.

"You can go rest in my room." Jungmo suggested. "Seongmin's napping in his and Woobin’s AC hasn’t been working." he explained.

"Yeah, okay," Wonjin said all too quickly, he paused long enough to pat Hyeongjun’s head before quickly heading towards Jungmo’s room.

He knows he managed to fall asleep as just a few hours later Jungmo was coming out of his shower, drying his hair with a towel as Hyeongjun was tapping his arm trying to wake him up.

"Come on, you’re hogging Jungmo’s bed and it’s close to ten." Hyeongjun said shaking him a little harder.

"He doesn’t mind." Wonjin murmured burying his face into the pillows more. It smelt weirdly like both Jungmo and himself. "This is my pillow anyways." he added absentmindedly.

Jungmo coughed. "Wow, he’s half asleep and he still tries to steal my things." he laughed awkwardly.

"Come on Wonjin, you have a lot more pillows in your own bed. Do you really want to stay here and sleep in the same bed as Koo Jungmo?" Hyeongjun asked, his voice mockingly saying Jungmo’s name.

Wonjin let out a small sound, he did want that, that was the problem, but he and Jungmo had made a promise to reveal their relationship after the song, not before, even if he really just wanted to go back to sleep and only wake up to Jungmo holding him. Wonjin groaned, pushing his own thoughts away as he rolled over, his eyes falling to Jungmo. "Fine." he mumbled glancing back to Hyeongjun. "I’m sleeping in your bed though."

"As I figured." Hyeongjun shrugged stepping back as he grinned at Jungmo. "Your bed is now Wonjin free."

"Just as I like it." Jungmo said, glancing back at Wonjin with a blank look that almost looked like a grimace. "You’re coming to rehearsal though right?" he asked.

Wonjin shrugged. "Maybe I’ll wait to see if you mess up our song at the showcase." he said.

Jungmo rolled his eyes but didn’t say anything as he watched Hyeongjun pull on Wonjin’s wrist dragging him out of bed. The two quickly leaving as Jungmo frowned looking back at his now Wonjin free bed.

That was not how he liked it. At all.

"Coming up next we have Koo Jungmo and Seo Woobin with ‘Love Fire' let’s give them a warm welcome!"

Wonjin grinned as Hyeongjun jumped up excitedly grabbing onto his arm, Seongmin jumping up on his other side. "Still going to record Woobin?" he asked amused.

"I’ll get a shot of Jungmo just to tease him later." Hyeongjun grinned.

Wonjin laughed, glancing back to the stage just as the two were getting situated.

"How come only Woobin and Allen know the song? You should’ve sent it to all of us before they played it." Minhee frowned towering over Hyeongjun to reach Wonjin.

"Because." Wonjin shrugged, biting at his lip anxiously as he waited for the music to begin.

He knew the song was good, both Woobin and Allen had complimented their lyrics and Wonjin himself had actually enjoyed the finished product quite a lot, but he was still nervous.

I was lonely, the late night
Is melting from your warmth

Wonjin’s breath hitched as the song finally began, he swallowed harshly as his eyes shifted back and forth between Woobin and Jungmo, the lyrics going in one ear and out the other as he watched them.

It felt a bit odd watching Jungmo turn and sing lyrics they had written together to someone else, but Wonjin didn’t care. The performance was too good.

I go out of control and fall for you

Wonjin kept his gaze forward as he felt Serim and Allen both glance at him. He ignored it as they started whispering to each other. It was fine, after this performance everyone would know anyways.

Wonjin was already rocking on his feet by the time the song got to the end.

I got a thing for you, the moment I reached you

"Should we go meet them backstage?" Taeyoung asked glancing around.

"Yes," Wonjin said, linking arms with Hyeongjun and Seongmin. "Let’s go before the next stage starts."

As soon as they got backstage they were just barely able to hear the last line of the song before the crowd erupted in applause. Hyeongjun tugged on Wonjin’s arm. "How was it hearing your first song performed live?" he asked.

Wonjin glanced at him, opening his mouth pausing as just out of the corner of his eye he spotted Jungmo and Woobin coming back from the stage, talking excitedly together. "Give me a minute?" he said to Hyeongjun before slipping out of his grip, taking a deep breath as he crossed the room.

"Oh hey, did you approve?" Jungmo asked, handing his mic to Woobin who blinked confused.

"Why do I have to hand yours in?" Woobin huffed before making his way over to the volunteer stage director.

"I did approve," Wonjin said turning his attention back to Jungmo, he looked up at Jungmo proudly before throwing his arms around Jungmo’s shoulders, pulling him in for a hug.

As soon as Jungmo’s arms wrapped around his waist he felt the room go silent. There wasn’t many people in this area, so he knew the rest of their friends were staring at them.

Wonjin didn’t care anymore.

"I want to kiss you." Wonjin whispered, his lips inches away from Jungmo’s ear.

Jungmo shivered. "Okay, yeah, um, give me like two minutes and we can meet in the hall, there’s this—"

"No," Wonjin interrupted pulling back a little to look at the older. "Here." he mumbled.

"Like, right here right now?" Jungmo asked, his ears darkening a deeper red as he stared down at Wonjin. "Okay." he whispered, his eyes never leaving Wonjin’s face.

Wonjin nodded before slipping his hands to the back of Jungmo’s neck, swallowing hard once before leaning up on his toes, Jungmo humming as he leaned down to meet Wonjin halfway. As soon as their lips touched, Wonjin could hear the sound of someone dropping something but he didn’t care.

He was finally kissing his boyfriend in front of their friends.

He grinned, pulling back trying his best to wipe his smile away before leaning back in, their lips meeting again as Jungmo’s thumb was softly rubbing his cheek.

"WHAT THE FUCK?" Minhee yelled, groaning as Seongmin elbowed him.

Wonjin pulled back again, clearing his throat as he looked up at Jungmo, the older already looking down at him with a barely hidden giddy expression. "You look too excited." he whined hitting his chest lightly.

"I’ve weirdly been waiting for you to be the one to kiss me first," Jungmo shrugged. "Also, we now have to answer our friends questions." he whispered glancing behind Wonjin at all the varies facial expressions.

Wonjin groaned, throwing his head against Jungmo’s chest. "Or, we could just run and forget this ever happened?" he suggested.

"Yeah, Hyeongjun does not look like he’s forgetting." Jungmo whispered.

"Fine." Wonjin sighed, pulling away as he turned back around. "Dinner then?" he suggested smiling innocently at everyone.

"Oh Ham Wonjin, you have some explaining to do." Serim said nodding his head amused.

As soon as Wonjin made it back to the dorm, he was unsurprised to find everyone already waiting around the living room. A variety of takeout options filling the table.

"Oh, yummy." Wonjin said, plopping down on the couch between Hyeongjun and Allen, reaching for a piece of fried chicken only for Hyeongjun to slap his hand away. "Ow, what the fuck?" he grumbled.

"Spill." Hyeongjun said crossing his arms.

Wonjin groaned as he threw his head back on the couch. "Seriously? Jungmo’s been here for like fifteen minutes why didn’t you just interrogate him?" he asked.

"We did." Woobin said glancing at Jungmo unimpressed. "He said he wouldn’t say anything until you did."

"He actually hasn't said a word in the past ten minutes." Serim added shaking his head.

"Fine, what?" Wonjin huffed crossing his arms after trying to reach for the chicken again, only for Seongmin and Hyeongjun to both slap his hand away.

"First off, can I please get confirmation that you both indeed wrote a love song together?" Woobin said glancing between the two.

"Yes," Wonjin sighed. "That was intentional."

"Ew, you thought about each other writing that?" Minhee asked scrunching his nose up.

"You saw them kiss." Taeyoung reminded him shaking his head.

"Yeah but that’s different.. those lyrics were…" Minhee said trailing off.

"Wait were you jealous when Jungmo sang it with Woobin?" Serim asked wiggling his eyebrows.

"Mh," Wonjin shrugged. "Not really, I was too busy thinking about after. It was when we planned to tell you guys." he mumbled, fiddling with his shirt.

"Wait.. tell us?" Allen repeated.

"That wasn’t like a whole.. confession?" Seongmin asked.

Wonjin glanced at Jungmo, the two staring back and forth before Jungmo pretended to be extremely interested in the floor causing Wonjin to give in and groan. "You could really help you know," he grumbled to Jungmo before glancing around. "And no, it wasn’t."

"So you’ve kissed before then?" Serim asked.

"Yes." Wonjin answered quietly.

"So you’re dating now?" Minhee asked glancing between the two, nudging Hyeongjun’s shoulder. "A new couple in the group, we can show them how it’s done."

Wonjin coughed awkwardly. "Um…”

"Um what?" Woobin repeated, furrowing his eyebrows.

Wonjin didn’t say anything as he stared at Jungmo, the older finally looking up, his ears a deep crimson red. Jungmo pursed his lips. "Technically Wonjin and I have been a couple longer than you two." he mumbled quietly, glancing at Minhee and Hyeongjun.

"WHAT?" Hyeongjun said startling as he turned and glared at Wonjin before turning and glaring at Jungmo. "What?" he repeated.

Serim blinked glancing between the two. "Wait," he started gesturing. "You two didn’t just kiss for the first time and you’ve been together longer than Hyeongjun and Minhee?" he asked.

Jungmo nodded. "Yes."

"Can you just tell us everything at once? I’m getting a headache." Seongmin groaned.

"We kissed nine months ago—"

"That’s not important," Wonjin interrupted.

"It’s apart of our relationship!" Jungmo said defensively. "We kissed nine months ago then for like four months after that we had this weird flirting stage of ignoring the fact that we kissed and had like three other chances where we almost did but didn’t until we finally got together five months ago." he explained.

"All this time," Minhee said narrowing his eyes. "All this time we joked about Wonjin hating you he was actually kissing you and being all lovey dovey?" he asked before letting out a fake gag.

"I’m not lovey dovey." Wonjin glared crossing his arms.

Hyeongjun looked at him unimpressed before glancing at Jungmo. "Give us a real answer. Is he a cheesy boyfriend?" he asked.

Jungmo laughed, ignoring Wonjin’s glare as he shrugged. "He can be." he admitted.

"You’re so annoying." Wonjin grumbled embarrassed.

"So this like bickering thing… You like it?" Seongmin asked.

"No comment." Jungmo mumbled.

"I better be the best man at the wedding," Woobin said smacking Jungmo on the arm. "I’m the reason you two met years ago." he added grinning proudly.

Wonjin and Jungmo both let out an embarrassed groan as they simultaneously threw their heads back.

"Oh you’re both never hearing the end of this now." Serim grinned.

"I’m happy for you two though." Allen added, sending a smile to them both. "Neither of you have stopped grinning since the performance. I’m glad you can be open now."

"Me too." Jungmo said softly, glancing at Wonjin sending him a shy grin.

"Yeah," Wonjin said quietly, mirroring the smile, finally reaching for the chicken, a giddy feeling resting in his face as he watched Jungmo lean against the couch, his arm casually draped across Wonjin’s legs as he rhythmically tapped Wonjin’s thigh.
