Work Text:

Disassembly drones were built to be strong, efficient. Perfectly suited for their job, their one purpose for existing.

Uzi, however, begged to differ on how 'perfect' some of the design choices the Mu-...Disassembly drones came equipped with.

Sure, she could give props where credit was due, the sick as hell interchangeable weaponry in their arms was something that really caught her eye! Seemed to be one of the most practical parts; sure, it made them super effective at their jobs, having an arsenal of weapons at the ready, but it seemed to be something pretty useful in the day-to-day lives the worker hadn't previously seen.

V was currently making use of one of her many attachments at the moment; Uzi spotting her as the doors to the colony screeched open, revealing the dull, stormy night sky that blanketed their surroundings, V's design camouflaging surprisingly well into the harsh conditions despite the corpse of a car she perched upon. V turned her head to the source of the noise, gaze unmoving as her arms flicked back to the claws she usually sported, visor trained on the purple figure that slowly shuffled through the snow that permanently shielded the planets surface. As Uzi approached the vehicle, V's features seemed to soften in recognition; one arm switching back to a brush attachment that quickly found its way back to the locks of V's synthetic hair. Uzi guessed this is what V must have been occupied with before her interruption, deciding it best not to question the drones futile attempts at taming her hair; though not at all surprised by the action. V was always rather active, and consistently spending time in the harsh winds the outside held probably didn't do her much favours, it made sense that she'd need to spend some time to stop her wig from getting entirely matted. Uzi found V's indulgence in the action while she was in her presence rather endearing; She'd only caught V brushing out her hair or focusing on adjusting her appearance a couple of times before, it clearly seemed to be something V didn't want to be pestered with. She wondered it if was something she caught on from Lizzy; she wouldn't be surprised.

"Hey." Uzi snapped out of her thoughts, clambering up the skeleton of the car to sit beside V, though careful not to be too sudden as to not disturb the taller drone from her task. Uzi quite enjoyed watching V more at ease; she didn't want to take such a rare sight away.

V simply hummed and nodded in responce, continuing with brushing the strands of her hair in silence until, after a few minutes, she seemed somewhat satisfied with her work. Her hairbrush hand switched back to the blades Uzi was more familiar with, the claws extending to rest on the surface of the car below with a clunk as V turned her gaze toward Uzi.

Uzi, who hadn't realised she'd not stopped looking at V, quickly shifted her gaze to a random point in the distance, to which V rolled the eyes on her optics, slightly amused by the action. Her tail swished behind her.

"So, whats the occassion, purple?" V teased, a smirk tempting the corners of her mouth. The worker drone had been stumbling into V's company an unusual amount lately- not that she minded. It gave her plenty of opportunity to tease Uzi about how clingy she'd become. She could tell the other drone seemed to enjoy her company too; why else would she keep reappearing? Even if Uzi always seemed to deny it, she-

"BITE ME! You're not the only one who's allowed out here, yknow." Uzi retorted, gaze flicking back to V, though the words carried a lot less bite than they used to.

After a few more minutes of sitting in silence, V found herself observing the apocalyptic landscape that was Copper-9. That was, until, she heard a rustling to her side, cutting through the comfortable quiet they'd grown accustomed to in each others' company.

V raised a digital eyebrow as she tilted her head to see what Uzi was doing, or, rather, what Uzi was trying to find. Her arms seemed buried within a black backpack that sat to her side as she rummaged through the contents.

"What're you looking for?" V questioned, though she didn't have to wait long for an answer. Seemingly, Uzi had found what she was looking for, keeping the contents clung to her chest, obscured by her trademarked hoodie as she turned her focus back to V.

"Look," Uzi started,
"It's kinda stupid, but whatever. These are for you."

Extending her arms, Uzi's gift for V now lay in perfect view for the drone before her in her palms. Well not perfect sight, per-sé, Uzi didn't miss the way V's visor squinted ever so subtly before her pupils widened in.. shock? Surprise? Uzi wasn't sure, she couldn't quite tell what V was thinking.

In Uzis hands rested a pair of glasses. Nothing all too special; some rounded black rims encased the circular glass which seemed to warp at the edges. Were these prescription??
The one flaw Uzi sympathised with most that the disassembly drones were fitted with was V's crappy optical calibration. Sure, it sucked that they had to chow down on oil to not overheat, but at least that could be managed. V had been shoved on this planet barely able to see anything, from what Uzi could gather. V seemed to have much worse vision than she let on, and Uzi didn't miss how she heavily relied on her additional eyes to navigate. V was practically blind without them; Uzi couldn't imagine having to deal with just seeing the world as blobs of colour. She supposed it at least made V's previous job easier to do; you feel a lot less guilty about killing drones if you have to get way too close to even see what they look like.

V carefully lifted the glasses from Uzis' grasp with a surprising amount of care and skill, considering V still sported her clawed hands. She turned the object over in her grasp, studying it.

Uzi, now glad to have her hands freed, moved one to rub the back of her neck. She couldn't get a read on V's reaction, and she found herself feeling oddly nervous about the usually comfortable silence that lingered.

"I just came across a place that had a good supply of these things; I tried to grab the ones that matched up best with your.. optical calibration. If they're no good, its no big deal, I could probably try and find some that work better or, yknow, whatever."

Delicately, V turned the object in ger grasp, delicately fastening them onto her visor. She blinked a few times as her optics adjusted, before her gaze fell to the drone sat beside her.

Uzis sure she saw a smile, a genuine smile, framed by blushing optics blink on V's visor before Uzi found herself wrapped in an embrace; V's embrace. V held Uzi close, head resting upon her shoulder, leaning against the purple locks V could now see in full clarity. It took Uzis CPU a few ticks to process the fact V was hugging her before she gently returned the embrace.

V's words came out like a whisper; in a level of emotion she rarely heard from the Disassembly drone.

"They're perfect. Thank you."
