PROLOGUE
There's a tragedy that comes with falling in love with one's best friend.
Aziraphale Fell knew he was doomed the moment his small smile began stretching into a grin, his stomach turning over itself, but most of all, his heart pounding more so than usual when he sets his eyes on his best friend, Anthony Crowley.
It was small at first, like the first ray of soft sunlight gracing one's skin – barely there, but it came with the knowledge that light was coming to brighten one's world. That was how Aziraphale felt when he noticed his heart skipping a beat when Crowley looked at him. But no matter how small it had started, Aziraphale was a smart person – he recognized the change settling within himself. And he was terrified, so he kept these feelings to himself.
But of course, once a seed is planted, there is nothing else for it to do other than grow.
The butterflies in his stomach grew to become fireworks instead, and the simple melody in his soul had slowly become a symphony. There was no denying it any longer – Aziraphale was in love with Crowley.
No longer able to suppress the adoration and admiration in his heart, Aziraphale had decided to reveal himself.
And, oh, what a mistake it had been.
“I'm sorry, Aziraphale, but I can't return your feelings,” were Crowley's parting words.
“Oh,” was Aziraphale's, and the world suddenly crumbled underneath his feet as a rift started to form between them.
There's a tragedy that comes with falling in love with one's best friend, and Aziraphale Fell was no stranger to the pain that it brings.
