Chapter 1: Unreachable doors
Chapter Text
Sunny's eyes, eye slowly opened, and as he sat up, he began to look around. His room was filled with flowers and get-well-soon cards; he wasn't sure how to respond to it, but he knew he remembered everything that happened. The very even that caused all of this to happen.
He could feel his sins crawling over his back as he let out a sigh and slowly got up from out of bed. As he did, his legs felt weak, as did his entire body, causing him to gasp as he grabbed onto the bed to keep himself standing. his legs shook while he kept trying to stand.
Once he had convidence he could stay up right, he slowly began to make his way towards the room's door. Memories flooded his brain: him pushing Mari down the stairs, Basil fighting him while begging him to stop and stay, the fear in Basil's eyes when they first met once again.
He never felt so powerless. His hand grabbed the cold handle of the door and opened it leading into the hallway. He stepped out and looked left and then right. He wasn't sure where to go, but then he saw it: Headspace Aubrey, Kel, and Hero walking away at his right. He quickly followed after them.
The hallway felt long, like it was never ending. He could see his friends walking in front of him but just out of reach; every time he got close, they were further away. Was this Omori doing? showing him that his friends would leave him if he told the truth? But that couldn't be. Omori accepted defeat and merged with him; he accepted Omori as part of him, part of his grief.
Sunny felt himself slowly moving in a semi-sprint to reach his friend's, but once he did, he reached a crossroad. There were three paths in front of him: on the left, Headspace Aubrey, Kel, and Hero; on his right, Stranger; in front of him, Mari? He wasn't sure what he saw, but the white figure just smiled at him before turning around.
All other's turned around at the exact same time and went their own path in the hospital. He checked each hall once more. His Headspace friends led him towards the roof from what he could see. Stranger led him into a hallway towards another crossroad, then disappeared around the corner to the left. The white figure led him deeper into the hospital.
Sunny felt his vision get blurry for a second, and a painful headache followed suit. As he cluched his head with his hands, he closed his eye. He looked up after the figure was gone but he was now infront of a hospital room door. he could hear multiple people talking behind the door, he thought he knew some of those voices, he slowly reached to the door handle but stopped.
He wasn't sure why, but fear and guilt were clawing at his back once again. He feared how his friends would react—would they still be his friends? He pushed the thoughts away as he grabbed the door handle and slowly opened it, at the same time the door was pulled forcefully open.
He was met face-to-face with Aubrey; her pink hair was reduced to only highlights, tears stained her face; Basil was shortly behind her; he looked suddenly taller and unharmed; and his hair was now dirty black at the bottom. How long did he sleep for? He was so distracted by their appearance he didn't even hear Aubrey gasp or faint when seeing him.
Basil just stared at him, his eyes almost staring holes through him, Sunny looked into the room as he noticed everyone looking shocked at him, he noticed Hero laying in the hospital room instead, and then he noticed HER standing in the room staring wide eyed at him.
"S-s-sunny?"
He didn't even stay there; he was already backing up, and then he sprinted away; he had to get away from whatever that was. He just kept running, even if he heard people yelling behind him, he could hear faint footsteps coming up behind him and gaining. it felt like blackspace all over again.
Sunny didn't even dare to look behind him; he didn't want to see what was chasing him. He turned right back at the crossroad and charged towards the roof. As his feet touched the first few steps of the stairs, he felt something grab his arm and pull him forcefully back.
He stared into the blackest eye's that only rivaled his own, a girl in a hospital gown staring back at him wide-eyed, breathing heavily. It was staring at him; he was just on complete autopilot to get away as he began pulling and kicking, trying to make her let go.
She audibly hissed and winched at the kick to her knee he gave her but he didn't care he wanted to get as far away from her as possible, why was she still here? he forgave himself, why was he still being tortured with her, The girl let go of his arm and grabbed her knee stumbling back.
Sunny didn't stick around a second longer and dashed up the stairs he could feel his muscles burning and screaming at him to stop; he could collapse any second. and he did his legs gave out mid-way up the stairs and he fell foward his jaw hitting one of the steps quite hard, before tumbling backwards and fell.Mari stared up at shock, her eye widening in horror. She could hear Kel coming up behind her he had chased her to get her back to the room. He saw how the boy fell down the stairs. Mari didn't waste a second and rushed forward at a speed she didn't know she could still pull, especially after the kick to her knee.
Her arms outstreched as she stepped up a few steps and wrapped her arms around the boy and crashed to the ground with him. The air was hit out of her lungs as she landed on her back. She held a tight grip onto the boy as he quickly began trying squirm out of her grip.
She didn't want to believe it, she wanted to believe it was just another hallucination, but Aubrey reacted to him, she even fainted. Basil, Kel, and Hero reacted to him; he even reacted to them. She couldn't mistake his face, not her Little brother's face not in a million years.
She wasn't sure how or why, but she saw his body in the casket, his pale sleeping face, a rest he would never wake from. Deep down, she hoped he was either happy in something beyond the living or was forever dreaming in his wild imagination. She hoped once upon a time she could join him in soon, but it looked like he joined her instead.
She was now questioning if this was a dream; was her mind playing with her before waking up? Was this one last 'got you' from Hikki? but it felt so real—too real to be a dream—the pain, the warm feeling of his body pressed against hers—everything felt to real to be fake.
Sunny kept struggling in her grip, hitting her arms the best he could with his own, trying to kick her again with his leg's but only hitting her legs with the back of his feet. He was tiring himself out; he could feel it, but he didn't want to be here; he needed to get away.
The world got blurry around him again. Slowly, darkness crept at the corner of his eye, but unlike before, it felt welcoming; he allowed himself to be taken by darkness this time.Mari felt Sunny slowly calm down in her arms as he probably fainted as well from all the stress; she couldn't blame him. She felt herself also at the edge of passing out, Kel was crouched beside her, unsure of what to do or how to react, his lips were moving but she couldn't hear him.
The only thing she currently heard were two heartbeat's, her own and a smaller, softer one pressed against her chest. Sleep was clawing at her eyes, but she felt afraid, afraid if she closed her eyes he would disappear again. She couldn't let that happen. She saw more faces appear above her, most of them in white suits and coats.
They tried to get her attention but she was just staring past them at the ceiling, The stress was truly getting to her; she could feel it, Maybe a short rest wasn't so bad after all, She slowly closed her eyes and just waited for whatever happened next.

Chapter Text
When Sunny closed his eye and allowed the darkness to take him, he didn't expect much—maybe to wake back up in the hospital bed, maybe be back in white space, His eye opened, and all he saw was black. He felt himself falling; there was no sense of direction in his fall; he just was. It felt like his life was flashing before his eye.
Memories flashing into his view like bright colors in the dark void, almost like stars in the night sky; he could see himself grabbing Mari's finger when he was five years old; he could hear her voice; she was giggling and saying he was the cutest brother ever. He felt himself slowly spinning midair.
The longer he fell, the more flashes of colours assaulted his eye; it stung, yet he felt comforted by what they represented. memories, memories he would forever hold close to himself, he began to slowly force his head to look down to where he was heading; all he saw was black; one spot stuck out; it had a light beam shining right on it.
It looked like a street, a grey street; it was just floating there, the edges being absorbed by the dark void. He felt his heart beat faster; fear filled his body; he didn't want this; he didn't want death. His head was forced back as he saw what he believed were mirrors in front of him; they were crashing past him. His reflection was there, but it felt distorted and incorrect.
As he felt the street come closer, he closed his eye, tears leaving his eye and flying away. A small smile slowly crept onto his face. He wasn't happy, no; he hated the fact he was about to die; he was afraid; he wanted Mari to be here, hold him, and tell him it would be okay like she used to do, but he felt happy that he would probably see her again soon.
His friend's would be sad, yes, but they would manage; they didn't need him; they never needed him. Yes, they were going to miss him, but as long as they remembered him or at least remembered Mari, it was okay to him. He then opened his eye, his eye widening as he stared at his reflection coming rushing past him. Omori was falling directly in front of him inside the mirror.
Omori's eyes were wrong; they were just black void's, something red streaming out of them; his body was covered in red marks like he was covered in blood. Omori slowly began to have a yellow outline as he smiled, his teeth sharp like knives. He then lunched through the mirror's and launched towards Sunny and bit down.
Sunny opened his eye and gasped for air while looking around. He wasn't sure what was happening, but he couldn't move anything. He looked around and saw his hands were cuffed to the bed; even more panic began to set in as he tried to pull his hands free. He heard a door open and managed to turn his head towards it.
The cat butler was standing next to the door as Omori walked in. Omori looked around before walking over to Sunny. Suddenly the room changed, and Omori and everything around him felt giant. "Mewo has been very bad," the Butler said. Nothing happened as Sunny looked towards Omori, who was just staring at him.
The phrase kept repeating, "Mewo has been very bad." Omori slowly raised a knife and looked at Sunny before swinging down. Sunny felt the knife pierce into him, and he wanted to scream, but nothing came. He felt himself fall once again. His mind was punishing him once again. Tears came down his face as he just wanted it all to end; he wanted to wake up, or for this hell to be over.
He forced himself to look down once more; the ground was closer now. Whispers came out of the void; it surounded him; he couldn't understand what it was, why he was hearing it, or what was going on. "Why... leave me... why now?!" "Friends... for eachother," "Ta...breath...it's...scary", "Why?!... STOP!" the voices continued; he knew didn't know who they belonged to.
He grabbed onto his head and curled into himself somehow while still falling; the voices got louder and more painful, stinging at his ears. "Stop... stop... s-shut up... LEAVE ME ALONE!" He screamed; it all went silent, nothing. He didn't feel like falling anymore; he was floating. He looked around, and suddenly a white, glowing figure floated above him.
It reached out to him, and he slowly reached back as he grabbed the hand; everything became blurry; his eye opened once again as he was now seeing a white ceiling; he felt something tightly holding onto him; he couldn't move his body; he looked around the best he could, and he noticed... two arms wrapped around him tightly, black hair laying under his head, not his hair.
"Holy crap, hey guy's he is awake!" He heard a girl's voice in front of him, and he looked up. three figures standing in front of him near the bed: Aubrey, Kel, Basil. "Okay, don't panic, just take a deep breath, buddy, but uhm... you are currently in the hospital laying in a bed while being held by a girl." Kel tried to explain it to him as calmly as possible.
Sunny didn't want to look back at who the girl was; he was afraid he would see IT, again. "That's one way to put it." Basil noted, clearly thinking there was a better way to bring the news, "But yeah, the doctors tried to separate you both, but she held such a death grip on you, and with her state, they didn't risk doing anything for her health, so they brought you both to this hospital room."
Sunny wasn't sure how to react; did he even want to react to that? He was basically in the grasp of a girl he Knew feared; he just wanted to leave; whatever this was, he didn't want to be here.
Mari was sitting under a tree; it was a big tree, and it felt calming. She knew this tree all to well; it was the one in the backyard. It always kept you safe from the sun when it got to hot or when you worked to much, or when you were the most adorable little boy you got the privilege of calling little brother. It was his favorite tree after all.
She looked down with a calm smile. She was hugging a shadow in her arms; it was in the form of a young boy, it's face completely blank. Besides two big, white, glowing eyes and a white, glowing smile, she patted his head, She knew she had to let go, but she just wanted to enjoy this for a few more minutes. She looked at the house; she could see through the window Hikki staring at her with a natural expression.
The house was her domain, the piano room was her room, and Mari made sure to keep Sunny Shadow Boy away from it; he didn't have to suffer from what was inside the house; outside near his tree, he was much safer; it always protected him; Hikki didn't dare get close to the tree; it frightened her. Mari knew the tree was Hikki's weakness; she used it to keep herself safe and as a threat against her.
One day she would overcome Hikki, banish her to the darkest pits of forgetting to never return, the house would be hers to cleanse of any evil, and Shadow Boy and her would be safe to live on, but that would be for another day; today she was relaxing with her little brother. she let's out a sigh and closed her eyes.
Notes:
This chapter is more to dive into the dreams and mindsets of Sunny and Mari, especially after seeing each other. Yes, there is meaning behind this and their "dreams." Can you figure it out? Im interested in hearing your theories.
