Summary:

In the midst of a heated dodgeball tournament, Chat Noir discovers Ladybug’s secret identity in the most unexpected way

Chapter Text

The sun shone brightly over the park as the students of Françoise Dupont High gathered for the annual dodgeball tournament. Teams were formed, and excitement filled the air. Among the players, Marinette Dupain-Cheng couldn’t shake the nervous energy buzzing in her chest. Today wasn’t just any game; it was a chance to prove her skills—and her feelings to Chat Noir.

“Ready, team?” Alya’s voice broke through her thoughts, and Marinette nodded, adjusting her headband. The stakes felt higher than ever, especially with Chat Noir on the opposing team.

As the whistle blew, the game erupted in chaos. Balls flew, players dove, and laughter echoed. Marinette was surprisingly agile, dodging and weaving with practiced ease. Each time she caught a glimpse of Chat Noir
..Adrien...his signature cat-like grace, the playful smirk—her heart raced. She knew he was still Adrien, but she couldn't help but keep thinking of him as Chat Noir...now that she knew.

“Nice moves, Ladybug!” he called out, referencing her playful dodge. Marinette couldn’t help but beam at the compliment, though she couldn’t shake the odd feeling of being watched.

The game intensified. With each hit and catch, the lines between their alter egos and their real selves blurred. Marinette could sense that something was off; the tension in the air thickened as the match approached its climax.

Then, disaster struck. A surprise attack from the rival team sent a flurry of balls toward her. Marinette ducked, but a stray ball hit her in the side, knocking her off balance. She stumbled and fell, her head spinning.

Before she could fully process what had happened, Chat Noir was by her side, concern etched on his face. “Marinette! Are you okay?”

The use of her name jolted her. “Wait, how did you—”

But before she could finish, a blinding light flashed across the field. A sudden Akuma attack disrupted the game, and chaos reigned as students scattered. Without thinking, Marinette sprang into action. “Chat! We need to transform!”

He nodded, determination flashing in his eyes. They both ducked behind a nearby tree, and in an instant, they were in their hero forms.

As Ladybug and Chat Noir, they faced the Akuma, working in perfect sync. But amid the battle, Marinette’s mind was racing. How had Chat Noir recognized her? It was impossible.

Once the Akuma was defeated, they returned to the sidelines to regroup. As the adrenaline faded, Ladybug felt the weight of the moment. “Chat, are you sure you’re okay? You seemed worried back there.”

“I was,” he admitted, glancing around to ensure they were alone. “You fell hard. I didn’t know what I’d do if you got hurt.”

His words wrapped around her heart. “I’m fine! Really! But, you were calling me by my name earlier...”

Chat’s expression shifted, confusion and realization battling on his face. “I thought you were just being modest. But… you’re not just good at dodgeball, are you?”

Ladybug felt a shiver run down her spine. “What do you mean?”

“I mean,” he said slowly, “you move just like Ladybug.”

Suddenly, the pieces clicked in his mind. The way she fought, the way she dodged—everything fell into place. “Marinette?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Marinette’s breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t meant for him to find out like this. “Chat, I—”

Before she could explain, he stepped closer, urgency in his gaze. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was scared,” she admitted, her heart pounding. “I didn’t want it to change anything between us.”

He paused, the tension hanging thick in the air. “Change? Marinette, this doesn’t change anything. It makes it… better.”

With her heart racing, she looked up into his eyes, realizing the depth of their connection. “So, you’re okay with it?”

“Okay?” he echoed, a teasing grin breaking through. “I’m ecstatic! I get to fight alongside the most amazing girl I know.”

Relief washed over her as they stood there, the chaos of the tournament forgotten. With their identities revealed, the weight of their secrets was lifted, opening a new chapter in their partnership.

“Let’s finish this tournament,” Chat Noir said, his playful grin returning. “Together.”

“Together,” she echoed, smiling back. Hand in hand, they stepped back into the fray, their bond stronger than ever.
