Work Text:
It was one of those nights where Moiraine missed Siuan terribly. Even with Lan's presence beside her, she still felt lonely.
Lan placed a huge hand on her shoulder in support. She smiled at him, grateful that with the bond, they didn't need to speak to know what the other was thinking.
"You'll see her soon," Lan said. "I promise."
They both knew that it could've ended up being a broken promise, but they took comfort from the words anyway.
Words, Moiraine thought. Then she remembered something.
She reached into the inside of her cloak, pulling out a piece of paper that had grown soft from folding and unfolding. She carefully unfolded it, smoothing it out. Siuan's 19-year-old handwriting, a little loopier than it was now, covered the paper. It smelled of the rose scent she always used, and faintly of Siuan. At the top, Siuan had written, For My Pufferfish.
She read the words silently, the words, as always, bringing tears to her eyes.
Moiraine, my love, you have my heart,
It belonged to you from the very start.
Your love, so strong, so pure, so free,
Is the very best gift you have given to me.
Your laugh can drive my sadness away,
Your smile can brighten my darkest days.
Moiraine, my love, these words are true,
I've never loved anyone more than you.
'I love you more, I loved you first,'
The love in your voice makes my heart want to burst.
All of you is just so sweet,
Every part of you from your head to your feet.
And your loving touch makes my body sing,
Light, I love you more than anything.
Moiraine my love, these words are true,
I've never loved anyone as I love you.
I love the way that you're so wise,
I could lose myself for hours in your beautiful eyes.
You're the kindest person that I know,
I love you more than words could show.
I'm not great at poetry, but I still tried,
As I knew however bad it was, you'd still be filled with pride.
Moiraine my love, this poem is for you,
And I know you'll deny it, but all of it is true.
And nothing can ever separate us two,
You belong to me, as I to you.
"I love you, Siuan," she whispered, folding the piece of paper and holding it to her chest. "I miss you so much."
She sniffed, wiping her nose with the back of her hand. Lan wordlessly reached out and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly.
"I'll make sure you'll get to see her," Lan said fiercely. "I'll do anything. I'll make sure of it."
She nodded, still too emotional to speak. She hoped they'd be able to reunite soon.
For now, though, that little piece of paper would be enough.
