Chapter 1: Escape

Chapter Text

Lloyd didn’t know what to think of the two lines on the pregnancy test in his hand. He’s probably for sure more grossed out about the fact that he’s holding a piss covered stick in his hand. Maybe not the best time for jokes. He knew it was a bad idea to…do the deed as some would say. It was mostly in the moment though, neither him nor Akita had ever done it with anyone else.

Lloyd groaned, he had to hide this. The others might not take it so well, he’s 15 and a ninja of all things. Getting himself nearly killed was in the job description. However, there is a way out of this. Just for now. Akita had given him the berries from the Travellers Tree as a gift. He had planted them and the tree grew in a pot in his room, it had begun sprouting flowers and berries so he should be able to go through with the plan.

Lloyd carefully constructed a plan, the first part was easy, the others thought he had a stomach bug, so he was off from training for a few days. All he had to do was carefully plan out a goodbye letter whilst sneakily packing his things, nab one of Wu’s teapots and teacups, brew some Travellers Tea, and he’d be off into the Never Realm. From there, he can find Akita and Kataru, explain everything, and hopefully not be rejected.

Lloyd felt way better now that he actually had a solid plan, it didn’t seem as scary to him, all he had to do was stick to the plan.

Lloyd finally finished packing bag number one, his backpack that would hold his most essential items. He stuffed a book he stole from Mystake’s office in the bag before zipping it shut. The late oni lady’s shop was untouched, Wu bought it and kept everything as it was in the memory of the old lady. The book was a guide to maternal parenthood for Oni’s. Lloyd thought about it and has grabbed it in case his oni traits showed more, he sure hopes so. Imagine if he popped out a dragon egg instead. Lloyd shivered at the thought. It was unlikely though, since he was more human than not.

He stashed the bag deep inside his closet, thinking about the unborn baby growing inside his previously unwanted uterus. Would they have black or blond hair? Would the brown hair from his parents shine through instead? Would they have green, red, or amber eyes? Would they look like Lloyd or Akita? Would their uncles and aunt want to be a part of their life? Lloyd shook off that last question. The ninjas might end up being mad, but he was certain that they would want to be a part of his little one’s life, especially Cole.

A sudden knock on his door spooked him into sliding his closet door shut. “Lloyd? You in there, buddy?” Kai’s voice echoed through his room as Lloyd quickly slid back into bed.

“Yeah!” He shouted, trying to look as unwell as he could as Kai slid open his door.

“You doing alright?” Kai asked, looking sympathetically at Lloyd.

“Yup! All good here,” Lloyd quickly replied, slightly avoiding Kai’s gaze. “Uh, how’s it going with training?” He questioned, trying to redirect the conversation.

Kai looked at him with a hint of suspicion, but didn’t question Lloyd. “It’s all right,” He answered, looking at Lloyd with a hint of jealousy. “You’re lucky you get to skip out, but once you’re all better, Master Wu isn’t going to go easy,” He said, smirking at Lloyd, who chuckled nervously. “I should get back to the others, Zane’s going toe to toe with Jay in Mario Kart right now, get better and get some rest,” Kai finished speaking, turning around and closed the door, much to Lloyd’s relief.

The next day, Lloyd had a goodbye letter drafted up. It was simply yet informative, they would know that he left willingly once he left. Lloyd sighed as he hid the note underneath some notebooks in his desk’s drawer. He looked at the tree in his room. He had carved a dragon and a wolf on its trunk a few weeks back.

We knew how much he would need, he had copied the recipe from Wu’s tea book a couple of hours ago. He had it written down in his notebook that he stashed under his bed.

He stared at the bowl of eaten chicken noodle soup that sat on his nightstand. Zane made it for him every time he’d gotten sick. He felt bad for lying to all of them, but he was rightfully scared. He was 15

Today was the day. Thankfully, Lloyd was all alone, some mission called the others away from the monastery, only Wu stayed behind, but he should be meditating by now.

Lloyd slipped his dark green backpack on his back, alongside a black duffel bag. He placed his note on his desk, his hands shaking as he let go of it. He pulled the notebook out from under his bed, grabbing the right amount of berries off of his tree, making sure to pack more just in case.

Lloyd carefully made the tea, mashing the berries. He looked behind him. He stared at his door as the portal opened. He looked away, and stepped into the portal. No looking back. He told himself, shivering as his environment changed around him.

Lloyd smiled as he looked around. The realm looked different, lush, green grass grew around, tall pine and oak trees were all around him. He smiled, he was now in the Never Realm. Now all he had to do was find Akita.
