Run
That word repeated in Amari’s head as fast as her feet hit the ground. She had to leave that town, she had to get away from it. She couldn’t breathe, couldn't see, didn't even know what direction she was running at this point. All she knew is that the last pillar of safety had fallen, Jaxper had lied. Not only had Jaxper lied, he had been reckless and he died because of it. And Amari hadn’t known, why hadn’t he known, why didn’t Jax tell him.
Why wasn’t she brave enough to ask. All she had done was run, all she knew how to do is run. She shouldn’t have run; she just left Hero and Spur behind in that house. Spur.. Amari had left Spur, Spur who just lost her brother, Spur who had just heard all that as well.
Amari fumbled for his comm, he had to message them. To just tell them he’s sorry, he’s sorry for not being strong enough to stay.

Amari’s lungs heaved, he can’t keep running, where even in the desert is he at this point? Near Bonsi, or Copperbend? There were no landmarks to tell her which way anything was.

Why would Spur say stay back? Did a fight break out? Were people in danger? Did Noki do something? Did Amari run and now her family was in trouble? Why was Jaxper with Noki? Why would Jaxper just let her in his house? They had talked about this, about how dangerous Noki was. And he just told her, he told Noki the truth. Why didn’t he tell them, was he ever going to tell them? Was he just going to keep lying, covering it up until.. until he died?? Was that his plan??

He was going to lie until he died wasn’t he. He was going to cover it up and he would die and he would be gone and no one would know.

Spur didn’t know. Spur didn’t know.. Did Spur ask? Did Spur leave? No Spur was yelling, Amari had heard that as she fled the house.. Has something gone wrong? Noki was there so something probably went wrong. Noki was there. Noki was there. Why was Noki there?? That was one thing Amari couldn’t wrap his head around. Why would Noki be there? And why was her horse bloody? Right, Nokis horse was bloody and Jaxper’s front step was bloody. Amari remembered seeing that. Was Noki injured?? Why would Noki go to Jaxper injured?? Were they closer than Jaxper had let on?? Had he been meeting with her in secret?? Were they allies?? Why would he be an ally with someone who had hurt them? Why would he trust someone who hurt them?

Does he not care that they had been hurt? He probably didn’t, he had told Amari he would do whatever it took to get off this island. Was this a part of that?? Why would this be a part of that??
Amari tilted and landed on the ground, he couldn’t run any farther he was exhausted and shaking and couldn’t take it anymore. Slamming his fist into the ground Amari screamed all of his frustration out and into the mesa around him. The mesa.. had Amari made it to copperbend? No. No he could hear water. Water in the mesa?
Haven
Ocie had said Haven was safe. Right? Yeah, Haven was safe and Noki wasn’t allowed in.
Amari pulled herself up and through the arch. She had to breathe, she was okay here. Ocie said it was okay to be here. She soon collapsed into a corner of the ravine and looked at her comm once more. Spur hadn’t replied. That was fine, that had to be fine. Was there anyone else safe awake? Anyone they could talk to.

They had opened his messages on instinct. They couldn’t close it, they couldn’t breathe again. Why had they opened these messages out of all of them? They could go and message Hero. Or Misch. Or anyone else. But Amari knew they had opened this for a reason.. for the one thing circling in her head. She had to know.
