“ Fang, hey! don't fall asleep on me” Boboiboy nudged him for the nth time that hour, looking at him amused before turning back to focus on the road.
Fang blinked then shifted as he yawned quietly, trying to get into a more comfortable position, well, as comfortable as you could get in the passenger seat. Running a hand through his messy purple dyed hair, he took a look at his watch– 15:24.
A sigh.
“Am not falling asleep” came the grumbled reply for the nth time in that same hour. Boboiboy giggled before changing gears.
“Should we stop at a restaurant or something? Biscuits and donuts can hold our hunger back for only so long yanno?” he asked before peeping at the fuel gauge, “We should also stop at the petrol pump, it’s more than half empty now—” he pondered then turned to look at his partner when a reply wasn't heard immediately.
Fang yawned sheepishly yet again, lowkey ignoring Boboiboy's question, before looking outside. It was a long winding road and all you could see around was huge trees and distant hills rolling by. The sky was covered by clouds that loomed for miles. And if he squinted, he could make out white dots on the distant fields —sheep probably— grazing about. All in all, the scenic landscape truly had a soothing effect on you if you were too engrossed in city life.
Too bad Fang had been watching this scenery roll out through the car window for the last three hours and was on the brink of boredom and probable hunger and not sleepiness, damn you Boboiboy to still be fascinated by the serenity of it all. Thus, to be quite frank… the effect was now officially lost on him.
“Do you really think we'll be coming across a restaurant anytime soon Oboi?” he snarked finally.
“I mean, it should show up eventually! The next town is in uhh 20 minutes or something, we're not going to be stuck in this jungle trek forever, don't worry!” Boboiboy rebuked, gently patting his boyfriend’s thigh in mock sympathy.
A huff for an answer.
No people, Fang was most definitely not pouting. He was just miffed and a bit irritable. Swatting at the offending hand, he unlocked his phone to check his whatsApp messages, his messages that he wrote to his brother when they left early morning from the venue, his messages that were still to be sent.
Ugh! Another problem added to his long growing list of problems: his network or the apparent lack of it!
Damnit! Why did his family have to own a plot of land in the middle of nowhere? Why did his idiotic cousin suddenly wish to get engaged in the said piece of land?? And WHY did this idiot keep it a secret, only to reveal it a few days before the date, when absolutely NO train rides were available?? And why did his own elder brother not book his train tickets for him while he did it for the other half of the entire family dynasty!??
Fang wanted to rip his hair out in frustration! Which was totally justified now that you knew the entire mess of his situation. You know how it is in Asian families, it doesn't matter if the event is already over, the buzz of it- the madness of it clings to you days later until you pass it on to the next generation.
“I think the food at the end of the function was pretty tasty” Boboiboy, bless his perfect ‘sassy puppy trapped in a mortal body’ soul, as if reading his mind, decided to offhandedly comment.
“No, it wasn't! The curry had too much oil and the meat buns in the starters had too much salt!” Fang replied out of spite, groping the backseat to look for their last opened Oreo packet. It was Boboiboy's fault for reminding him of food, maybe that would stop him from exploding in anger or falling prey to sleepiness.
“Liar! I saw you taking seconds at the buffet” a curve to the left that Boboiboy smoothly executed and Fang who finally felt the package briefly reach his fingers, also felt it roll to the other side, behind his seat, unreachable. Ugh!
“You best believe I deserved those second servings after I drove both of our asses at the crack-ass of dawn to some hidden castle in the middle of Narnia for 6 hours, only for the decorations to be incomplete and the oldies nagging the idiot groom for it!” He ranted as he inwardly considered climbing to the backseat to get his damn Oreo back. A pat on his thigh told him that No it should not be considered. Or maybe it was just Boboiboy’s way of getting his attention.
“Oh come on! you weren't the only one who was forced to help out with the decorations, all your other cousins and relatives were doing it, me too! Besides, wasn't it nice to meet the entire family after a long time—” Boboiboy said as he turned to the left to let the clearly impatient car blowing its horn out to go in front.
A huff under his breath, ‘Impatience is a trait that ruined many great men’ Boboiboy thought, not noticing his own man sitting besides him and his rapidly straying impulses.
‘Ok so it wasn't a warning for him to not jump seats while his darling was driving, good!
Oreos beware!’
And with that Fang, with none of the grace he possessed at the moment, completely ignoring Boboiboy's question - again, climbed to the back to reach for the half empty Oreo packet, accidentally sending a knee to Boboiboy’s hand causing the car to wobble.
With a squeak of “Fang! What the hell!?” and the series of “so sorry!" That followed it, Fang finally settled back on his seat to eat the Oreos that he almost risked his and his boyfriend’s life for.
Only to find them soft and soggy…
Dammit!
Shoving the soft Oreo to Boboiboy's mouth which earned him a incredulous look from his beloved, he once again opened his whatsApp, this time, to be finally greeted with his sent messages and a reply from his adored yet cursed brother!
-Kai ‘ge I won't be staying for breakfast, told maa already
-Left just now and took ur earpods too
-Cuz you and xian ‘jie lost mine
-Don't miss it, cuz i won't ret urn it (ㆁωㆁ)
You rascal!-
You better give it back the next time you see me-
Safe journey to your bobo AND your luggages -
Meanwhile I hope you choke on your donuts-
Yup! sounds just like him. Good to know he's up and awake and alive and still has a stick up his—
“Oh, did your net come back? Abang Kaizo replied?” Boboiboy asked, trying to peeking at his phone before turning his eyes back to the road.
“He did! Looks like the goddess of the internet finally took mercy on my poor starved soul!” He dramatically swayed on his seat, making his partner roll his eyes in fondness. Clearly the people who called his Fangie as a stoic and stuck up person had never seen him in his relaxed and carefree spirits before. But then, who else has ever gotten close enough to Fang like BoBoiBoy to see this side of him (excluding the kokotaim group)?
“What did he say?”
“He wishes safe journey to the idiot among many other things”
“Oh that's kind of him, see! He's not as mean as you make him out to be” a smooth swerve to the right, the beginning of a small town finally showing up.
“What do you mean? He just told me to choke on my beloved donuts? If that's not mean then what is!?”
“Eh?! But I thought he told you ‘safe journey’!? Who's that for then!?”
“… that's for you. He called you an idiot. A ‘bobo’ to be specific… wait did you just refer to me as an Idiot!?”
“ ...I should have just left you to fall asleep…” Boboiboy nervously chuckled, roaming his eyes around for a decent restaurant or even a petrol pump by the road. It's the food, he theorized, or the apparent lack of it in Fang that was making him moody. Fang clinked his mouth in exasperation as if reading his mind and Oboi felt himself swear inwardly.
“It's too late! You woke me up and all my sleepiness has evaporated! Now justify yourself before I throw you out the car!”
Damn Soulmatism should choose another time to show up!
“Ok then, In my defense!” Boboiboy started, finally spotting a petrol pump and driving into it, waiting behind still two more vehicles, “Your brother was texting you so I thought he was calling you an idiot!” Yep it was valid enough. And oh! It's their turn.
Fang waited for Boboiboy to finish doing the details at the booth. The petrol started to load in, a wait of 5 minutes then they were back on the road.
And then he replied “ Your Atok calls me an angel when texting you, and no, don't try to deny it. I've seen it with my own two eyes, so your point here doesn't make much sense!” Physically jabbing him lightly in the ribs as he made his point.
“Everyone in my family thinks you're an angel Fang, at this point it's become a sort of nickname for you”
“You talk as if there's many members in your family, it's just your grandpa, dad and uncle mecha!” Fang got a light squeeze on his thigh in mock retaliation which made him chuckle.
“You forgot Ochobot~” Boboiboy sing-songed. There was a somewhat decent restaurant up ahead but it seemed to be closed. Ah well, the search continues.
Fang huffed good naturedly, back on his phone, probably texting his brother back now that his net was somewhat stable.
“As cute as seeing you two hug each other out and calling each other ‘brothers forever’ is, he's not really your brother yanno but even if I include your ‘brother from another mother’ into your family tree, it's still four people.” Fang replied, smirking before putting his phone down to look at his boyfriend.
“Ochobot is my brother!” BoBoiBoy exclaimed, swiftly cutting to the right, ignoring the exaggerated comment of “that's not even his real name!” that Fang whined, “Besides, if you have a problem with the number of people in my family, then why not join it? …Officially?” The road was now straight but the no. Of shops and houses had dwindled down to a smaller number. Less things to focus on and more keen to listen to his partner’s answer.
“Is that a marriage proposal I hear in the subtext? Hmm I'd give it a … 5/10!” Fang said lastly in a sarcastic tone but Boboiboy knew that he considered it anything but. Still he couldn't help but chuckle, lightly tapping Fang's thighs before changing the gears.
“Only 5? As if you could do any better!”
“I can do better than you! Way better but if the marriage proposal is ever put on the table then you should be the one to bring it up”
“What?! Why? What gender roles are we pushing here?” Boboiboy whined.
Fang shrugged “I was the one who confessed first and asked you out thus bringing us to this stage of our relationship, so I'm just being kind to let you do the honors of bringing us to the next step” he stated, as if it made complete sense and Boboiboy wanted to hug and strangle him at the same time.
“That …doesn't make sense at all!”
"It does! Anyway you better bring a ring to the equation as well, 24 carats diamond on it!"
"I might as well just rip out my heart physically and give it to you at this rate!"
"I already have your heart though and you have mine, do you think I'd be here otherwise?"
"Well then take care of it! Do you think my heart can survive buying such an expensive things??"
"Well it's only a matter of a ring and your last name in exchange for a lifetime companion, I think it's a pretty good deal!"
"My last nam— I'm taking on your last name?"
"Of course! You liked my family didn't you? You might as well join it too!"
"Join your family and be taunted by your oldies for even breathing?! You might as well join mine Fang" Boboiboy whined, passing through the toll gate.
Fang laughed at this, probably at his stupid expression at his stupid retort too. The loud, carefree laugh of his, as if he had just cracked the best joke of the year and Boboiboy found himself joining in, just because he could.
Good thing they had left town so he didn't have to worry about hitting into another vehicle out of nowh—
….they left the town…and were back on the long winding single track roads…
“ Fang”
“ Hm?”
“You don't mind if we postpone our lunch to dinner, do you?”
“...”
“I didn't notice it much but …we just passed the last town, next stop is our own city so—”
"You were incharge of finding a restaurant for us!"
"I was busy talking with you!"
"See! We didn't have such a problem when I was the one driving!"
"Well that's because I was asleep for half of the trip!!"
"Why you—"
A loud horn from behind broke their bickering and brought Boboiboys attention back in the road. After the car passed and it was just their car on the road again, Boboiboy opened his mouth to argue again only for Fang to say:
“I'm going back to sleep”
“Ehh?? Wait! Fang don't fall asleep on me!”
