The grey, old Eggman base was broken apart. Cracked on some places and on others nature had taken its course, plants growing through. It had no electricity left, as well as no egg net.
Yet the building was still standing. Eggman sure knew how to build secret bases back then.
A big hall in the middle of the chaos, partially with no roof, and few small figures standing on the metalic ground.
What is going on over there?
A blue hedgehog extended an arm protectively over his two shaken and hurt friends, a yellow fox and a pink hedgehog. But his gaze wasn’t on them.
Instead, he stood face-to-face with the villain.
This wasn’t the usual villain you’d expect.
No evil genius, no destructive robot, no monster empowered by Chaos, and no speed to rival his own. An armed mobian with two dark violet eyes, filled with an insane joy.
Those two eyes reflected the twisted satisfaction of someone who took pleasure in causing harm to others, no matter how shockingly cruel they were,
someone who laughed at the thousand innocent lives taken away, the evil chaos and pure destruction that was left behind.
The villain laughed hysterically, holding his stomach.
Tails and Amy watched with wide eyes, hurt and gripped by pure animalistic fear.
But what about Sonic?
Sonic wasn’t going to rush forward and fight like he usually did.
He wasn’t about to play this out until the enemy fell.
NO.
Amy and Tails were hurt.
This stops now.
"You will not hurt my friends anymore. Understand?"
Sonic said in a firm and almost... cold voice.
The villain’s mad laugther started to cool off, a few chuckles escaped him, before it completely died down. Replaced by a nervous shaking and then... not a single word out of the villian.
Only the quiet remains of the previous laugther were still echoing in the hall.
The enemy fell heavily on the knees, now visibly shaking and crying, with a absolute terrified expression, but the mobian still faced Sonic. Everything around fell into a deep and crushing silence.
Amy could even hear her and Tails' breathing. She suddenly felt a chill going down her spine, confusion and fear rising up very quickly.
What was going on? Why was the villain so terrified? Of Sonic? But he’s a hero! He wouldn’t scare someone like that. Never!
Slowly and almost without any noise, Amy shifted to get a better look at him.
huh?
Sonic didn't even seem angry at all.
That's when she saw.
Oh, Gaia.
The warm green eyes she knew are gone. Replaced by an icy, piercing stare that looks right through her soul leaving icy wounds behind.
Hurts...
It is a look devoid of any warmth or emotion, an icy indifference.
It Hurts...
Amy felt the ice burn through her bones and muscels, freezing her in place.
It hurts. It hurts so much.
She feels like crying, but she just... just can't.
This... is not a Mobian’s look. It isn’t human.
It is that of a powerful god.
Amy starts shaking uncontrollably.
This is not her Sonic.
Cold, so ruthlessly cold...
It is so Painfull...
Who is this?..
Suffering...
Is this ....deat..h...
Amy couldn't think.
Amy couldn’t breathe.
And then the coldness suddenly let her go. Sonic turned back to her, and his green eyes widening with shock and concern.
The warmth was back.
He quickly hurried over to her.
“Amy? Amy! Oh, Chaos... I’m so sorry! You got this, just breathe with me, okay?”
Sonic said, trying his best not to panic. He took Amy’s hands in his. They were ice-cold.
Shoot.
He started blowing warm air on her hands. Bit by bit, they warmed up, and stopped feeling so numb.
“So…nic?” Amy managed, her voice hoarse.
Sonic looked at her, distressed. She was sitting on the ground, exhausted, her eyes weary with a touch of... fear.
Shoot.
“It’s okay, Ames. See, it’s warmer. You’re okay… Let me help you up. Let’s go get to Tails"
The blue hedgehog helped her stand. She was still shivering, but slightly less than before. This was no good—he wished he had something to warm her up. A coat?
Anything. Anything would be good right now. But alas...
He hadn’t meant for Amy to see that.
Would she be okay? How could he make it up to her? Would she still want to be friends with him after this?
Selfish thoughts, Sonic! Right now, Amy needs hot chocolate, and Tails needs medical attention.
Tails was still sitting on the ground, monitoring his device and calling the Tornado to their location. His fur was all scratched and dirty.
That's no good either.
The blue blur helped Tails up as well, and the trio headed back, ignoring the villain, who kneeled on the floor and was still shaking in fear.
The sun had already set when the friends arrived at Tails' house -a big yellow building that looked like Tails.
Inside, it was pretty well organized, with a few green plants here and there and some scattered screwdrivers. Overall, it felt homey and comfortable for them.
The first thing they did was bandage Tails up, then make sure everyone got hot chocolate, prepared with
Sonic's super-fast —recipe.
And Amy was... well, she...
Tails was concerned for Amy:
she looked kind of...
...sad and pale.
Had the villain hurt her worse than he thought? Was she sick?
He couldn't shake the worry off, and Sonic seemed concerned too.
They had to fight quite a lot before Sonic appeared, maybe the battle has exhausted her too much and she just needed some well deserved sleep?
Tails hadn't even seen what happened to the villain who hurt them, and Sonic hadn't let him look afterwards, so there must have been something serious going on while he was busy trying to fix his broken communicator. All he remebers was the hysterical laughter suddenly stopping.
Oh well.
Sonic said that he would take care of Amy, so Tails was sent to bed instead.
As Sonic had said, "You need sleep to recover quicker from that attack, Lil' bro! And no building crazy machines until it heals, okay?"
He couldn't fly or build.
He would have argued about it...
but the concern was kinda understandable.
His left arm and left tail were hurt, but he could still walk.
a little.
to the bed, at least...
two more meters...
He fell asleep instantly after Sonic wished him goodnight and covered him with his blanket.
Amy, on the other hand, was sitting on a chair in the living room.
She was.... not feeling too good. More like ... drained. Very drained.
As if the world she knew had fallen apart. In front of her eyes. Literally.
But the pink hedgehog was already feeling a bit better than before, thanks to Sonic.
Cold... icy... death.
Amy shook her head. She couldn't understand.
Sonic was always so kind...
but...
maybe Sonic isn't the person Amy thought he was.
This cold aura... it had cleared up and was blown away by the wind.
Only leaving freezing ice traces behind.
But it was still terr... terrifying.
Amy felt fear grip her heart. This raw strength...
She had never seen something like that. And preferably, never again.
Sonic was way more powerful and more dangerous than anyone she ever imagined meeting. Was she safe with him?
Sonic interrupted her thoughts by knocking on the living room door.
"Hello, Ames! Can I come in?" he asked, opening the door slightly.
Amy hesitantly nodded. Sonic sat down in one of the chairs, not too far away from Amy, with his usual confident smile, but the way he spoke revealed a deep level of uncertainty and torment.
He also tapped his foot on the ground again.
"Amy, how are you feeling? Do you maybe need a warmer?" Sonic asked carefully.
Amy looked into his eyes.
... cold—No.
Those where Green eyes, full of care, softness, love for his friends and WARMTH.
She opened her mouth to speak, but her voice gave out.
Sonic looked at her with understanding.
"No need to speak, it's okay. I'II be right back in a Sonic second!"
He ran off to the kitchen and returned in a few seconds with hot, sweat tea and a warmer.
Amy took it and hugged the warmer.
Warmth... she was already starting to feel better. She wanted to thank Sonic, but the blue blur ran off again and came back with a blanket--a green one with a Christmas tree on it.
She looked up at Sonic as he carefully placed the blanket around her shoulders. It was nice an warm.
She sipped her tea. Sonic simply watched her with a heartwarming smile.
He really did care for her..
That villain had hurt them, so Sonic felt the need to protect her and Tails. It was in her friend's nature to jump into action, but also to protect the ones he loved.
She felt admiration,
not the crush feeling she'd had for a while.
She felt like..
She felt like she understood.
She understood her hero—her friend a bit better.
He would do anything to protect them. She would do anything to protect and help him, too.
