Summary
Max and her stepbrother Billy try to leave their secret romantic history behind in San Diego when they’re forced to move to Hawkins just in time for the beginning of senior year. But a tangled web isn’t so easily unwoven.
This is a portrait of a controlling and abusive relationship that will jump back and forth from Max & Billy’s present in Hawkins to flashbacks of past moments in San Diego.
Max is 18 and Billy is 19 in Hawkins, but in San Diego they start out 16 and 17, hence the underage tag. Since she's older here, her storyline intersects more with the older teens in Hawkins (Steve, Nancy, etc) and doesn't include the group of kids as much, who are canon age.
Mind the tags! Dead Dove! This is a character study within a physically, emotionally and sexually abusive relationship that begins when both are underage. Also deals with the trauma and confusion that results from that kind of relationship shaping someone's formative years.
