Chapter Text
Gus had been forgotten since the day he was born. Well, as far back as he could even remember. Even before Gregory's death, he had been the kid sitting in the corner, barely cared for, which fit well, considering that he was the middle child. The thing was, that Gus didn't mind, in fact, he almost enjoyed it. But, he knew he wouldn't be completely forgotten, his family history would never let him move on, and he knew that. Dead aunts and uncles didn't help…along with the fact that his grandmother kept getting every family member, alive or dead, into some sort of news or story.
Sometimes Gus wished he lived in a normal family, with… less dead people, people who didn't die horrible deaths. The ‘curse’ was a whole other problem though, of course, he didn't believe in it and his sister didn't either. They both knew that the ‘curse’ was an excuse to get away with things. It was just a whole show to cover up the family's faults. He was honestly surprised that some people in his own family even believed it in the first place. It was almost like saying the moon is cheese, or the Earth is flat. His dad on the other hand was more neutral about the ‘curse', not a firm believer but he had his views, one he almost repeated every day “Any kid with an imagination in this house is a dead kid.” When Gus was little he thought it was stupid but as he got older he realized that his dad wasn't entirely wrong. Calvin had dreams of flying but…he died, Gregory was very creative for his age but…he died, Barbara had a dream of becoming a star again but…she died, and Molly had a vivid imagination when it came to animals…but she also died.
But one thing was for certain, Gus had some sort of morbid curiosity, even after his dad's warnings and his grandmother telling the stories of his relatives. It was just that he had a hunch that the words were twisted along the way, and if a ‘curse’ was falsely spread then the stories could've been too. Gus wanted to hold his own investigation, no he needed to.
And that's exactly what he was going to do…
