Work Text:
Ango looked at his ring as Chuuya and Dazai stood next to each other, smiling.
A few years after the two reunited, they got engaged. Now this was the summer the happy couple would get married.
The halls were decorated in ivory with gold hints, intricate designs that Chuuya poured his soul into while planning. Everything about their wedding was utterly perfect, especially the food; instead of canned crabs, they served crabs captured from the seas of Coastal Tides. Fancy wine from Chuuya's bar was an option as well.
Oda, who was Dazai's best man, stood next to him as reception started. As soon as he spotted Ango, he ran up to his table and sat next to him.
"You made it in time for once. Dazai was just bragging about his future honeymoon."
Ango ignored the semi-snarky comment. He knew Oda wasn't wrong for adding it in, because it was true. Working for the government ripped his time management to shreds, leaving barely enough time for his husband.
It's not like he was the only one in the wrong; Oda was very busy himself. From being a part-time carer at the orphanage to being a teacher at the local school, he too had no time for quality time.
They both sighed, slightly jealous of the happy newlyweds who actually had time for each other. It was almost an obligation to stay in town; the school was shortstaffed, and Ango came here because of his job in the first place.
After the wedding, Oda took his jacket once he stepped foot into their shared house.
"Maybe we should take some time off too, I think it would be nice leaving for a short trip outside this place."
"We have responsibilities, Odasaku. There isn't time for us to do much."
"Just think about it, please? The trip won't have to be long; it could be a day or two."
Ango's glasses blocked the bright orange sun from his face as Oda drove to the beach. His slippers hit the sand, letting its grains dig into the rubbery material. He immediately went for the lounge chair, opening his laptop to work.
Oda then came over and nudged him with a cold glass of a fruit smoothie. The cool citrussy hints of orange glided smoothly down his throat as he let his eye wander to his husband out in the ocean; clearly, it was tempting to join, but he had to focus on work right now.
Or maybe not.
Ango closed his laptop gently and left it on the chair as he felt the hot sand burn his feet when he took his slippers off, but the fresh seawater cooled him down. The two splashed each other gently with water, not to tease each other or ruin the other's hair, but bathing each other or helping them cool down in a way.
Oda may have been right; maybe Coastal Tides was more than just a town Ango was forced to work in. Maybe it was his home; maybe it was his husband's home too. Maybe when Chuuya and Dazai come back from their honeymoon, this town will still be their home.
His speculation was right, as he admired the scene of the tiny toddler named Atsushi holding Dazai's hand as they padded through the beach together.
