Shots were flying through the air and all Han could hear was the sound of blasters firing. He couldn't think about anything other than not getting shot long enough to dive for cover.
It shouldn't have gotten as bad as it did. The operation wasn't even smuggling. It was a legit job for a legit company. But then pirates had arrived.
And Han had gotten separated from Chewie. Their attackers had come out of absolutely nowhere so quickly that there had been no thinking, just getting out of the way.
He dove behind a crate and took a second to breathe. He had to figure out what to do. but he was alone with only his single blaster and there were so many pirates. And he didn't know where his partner had gone.
He grabbed his blaster off his belt and fired over the top of the crate. If he shot enough it would keep them from coming closer.
Then he heard the yell of an injured Wookie.
Someone had managed to shoot Chewie.

After it was all over Han managed to get his injured partner back to the Falcon. It hadn't been easy since Chewie could barely keep himself upright and so he was leaning most of his weight on Han.
And Han had to patch him up. All while thinking about how terrified he had been of possibly losing Chewie. More than he had for any other person. Which made him think too much about how he really felt about his best friend. The fact that what he felt was more than just friendship. And how he didn't want to lose the most important person in his life thanks to some unfortunate feelings.
But as it turned out for Han, Chewie was just as in love as him.
