A Family Squabble

Summary:

“You.”

“Know.”

“What.”

“You.”

“Did.”

If Neuvillette’s kin were alive, they probably would have laughed at how he, a dragon sovereign who reclaimed his full authority, shivered at his wife and son’s tone.

Work Text:

After a long day at the Palais Mermonia, Neuvillette started his leisurely stroll back home. Home where his wife and son were, where his heart belonged. He walked faster, already thinking about how Misha would run into his arms and how Furina would greet him with a kiss.

Reaching their apartment, he opened the door and paused. The lights were off and Neuvillette immediately started panicking. Were Furina and Misha safe? He drew on his powers, trying to sense Furina’s vision–

The lights turned on. He sighed in relief when he saw Furina and Misha, safe and unharmed. But then, he noticed their expressions. They stood before him, hands on their hips, anger prevalent on their faces.

Neuvillette does not know what he has done to warrant such a reaction, but he could not bear to see his treasures so stricken. Outside the apartment, rain began to patter against the windows. Other people’s emotions always affected his own mood—Furina’s and Misha’s, a thousand-fold more.

The two strode forward slowly, each footstep echoed a thousand times louder in Neuvillette’s mind. Furina tilted her head up to meet his eyes, glaring at him, and jabbed a finger at his chest. Misha attempted to glare at him as well, light purple eyes squinting at his father.

“You.”

“Know.”

“What.”

“You.”

“Did.”

Furina’s tone was chillingly cold while Misha imitated the accusatory tone of his mother’s perfectly. If Neuvillette’s kin were alive, they probably would have laughed at how he, a dragon sovereign who reclaimed his full authority, shivered at their tone.

Neuvillette does not know what he did. He ran through the whole day in his mind—did he forget to kiss Furina goodbye on his way out this morning? Did Misha not like the lunch Neuvillette cooked for him to bring to school?

It was almost fearful when he asked, “What did I do?”

Furina and Misha were silent as if giving him one last chance to fix his mistake. Then— “You ate the last piece of cake!” His wife and son shrieked together.

Of course. He had indeed eaten the slice of cake. He wasn’t particularly fond of sweets, but someone had to stop this family from diabetics.

He stepped closer, wrapping his arms around his wife and son. They reluctantly hug him back.

“I apologize.” Neuvillette hated seeing the two so distressed. “But Sigewinne was telling me how consuming too much sugar can be bad for the human body.”

Misha burst into giggles as he heard his father’s serious words. “We were just joking, papa.”

“Did you really think we’d get mad at you over cake?” Furina asked, her head nestled into the crook of his neck.

“Papa, silly!” Misha agreed. “Misha will always share with papa.”

Neuvillette smiled at their words. “You have certainly inherited your mother’s sense for dramatics though, Misha.”

“Hey!” Furina poked his shoulder before brushing her lips with his. “You love our dramatics.”

Yes, he did. Neuvillette loved Furina and Misha—their tendency for theatrics, their love for desserts, their innate kindness, and everything in between. Oh, he could not imagine a life any better than this.

Notes:

Neuvillette felt so guilty that he bought the entire sixteen slices a day cake from Hotel Debord for Furina and Misha the next day. (He folds easily when it comes to Furina and Misha.) Hope you all enjoyed this silly little fic:)
