Casual

Summary:

The stranger extended a hand, “Madame?”

Melania starred, a bit flustered. “Please, Melania is fine,” She said, as they shook hands.

“Kamala Harris, California Attorney General.” the woman in blue announced with a smile in her voice.

Notes:

Mostly cannon complaint apart from the fact Kamala Harris is single.

Chapter 1: Is it casual now?

Chapter Text

[Pre-2020 election]

Melania leaned against the wall, swirling the champagne in her wine glass. The party felt like it was drawing on far too long. Rich businessmen and politicians (though who cared to tell the difference, the venn diagram of the two was pretty much a circle) chatted and mingled about insider trading.

She sighed as she thought about how her life could’ve possibly gotten to this. When she’d married Trump, she expected to be buying a new beach house by the end of the decade. Yet here she was, first lady of the white house. She definitely married him too young.

Melania looked at her husband across the room. His straw colored hair was styled to hide the fact that he was balding. He was talking to Joe Biden with light in his eyes. God she needed more alcohol.

Melania chugged what was left of the champagne. As she lowered her glass she noticed a stunning woman approaching her.

She wore a pristine blue business suit and matching cerulean tie. Her hair fell in elegant brown waves around her face.

The stranger extended a hand, “Madame?”

Melania starred, a bit flustered. “Please, Melania is fine,” She said, as they shook hands.

“Kamala Harris, California Attorney General.” the woman in blue announced with a smile in her voice.

Kamala gave a playful sigh. “So, eventful night m’lady.”

Melania smiled at the joke.

Then out of the corner of her eye she saw Trump leading Biden out of the ballroom. A mixture of annoyance and frustration filled her. You know what? Two can play at that game. Besides, she deserved to have some fun.

“You want to get out of here?” Melania offered. “Who would I be to deny the first lady?” Kamala responded with a hint of mischievousness in her voice.

“And so he brought the turkey into my room! Jokes on him, it ended up shitting on his bed,” Melania said, eating a spoonful of ice cream.

Kamala laughed. “Well if it isn't the consequences of my own actions,” she said, mimicking Trump’s gravelly voice.

They’d ended up in Melania’s kitchen eating all the fancy ice cream they could find. Sitting on the floor, sharing stories about stupid politicians, made Melania feel a kind of joy she hadn’t felt in years. The joy of a true connection.

“C’mon” Melania said, setting the ice cream aside. “Let’s take this somewhere more comfortable.”

They walked hand in hand to the couch. Cuddled under a blanket, Melania put on Home Alone 2. With the close proximity, she noticed a new scent.

“Is that rose scented perfume?” Melania asked, her head resting on Kamala’s shoulder.

Kamala smiled. “Yeah. I wear it because it reminds me of my mom. It’s also a pretty good talking point. Roses are known for their beauty and their thorns.”

“I think you're more beauty than thorns.” As they sat, tangled up in each other, Melania felt more whole and loved than she’d felt in a long time.

Melania awoke to the sound of movement. Her eyes glanced at the clock. 2:54 am. She saw Kamala picking her suit jacket up off the coffee table. Melania’s heart ached at the thought of being alone again.

She got up off the couch.

“Wait–” Melania said.

“Until next time m’lady,” Kamala said as she kissed the back of Melania’s hand.

And without another word she was gone.
