Carnival Game

Summary:

Carnival worker Eddie's evening just got a whole lot more interesting

Work Text:

🎡🏀🧺

Steve is on a first date at a carnival trying to win a prize for a girl he doesn't really like, and the guy running the booth keeps tossing him basketballs to throw, even though Steve is pretty sure he only paid for 3.

Steve glances at the booth guy's nametag- Eddie- and then up at his face, noticing his dark eyes on his biceps as he shoots another basket. Steve presses his lips together, fighting a smirk, feeling pleased with the attention.

His date, on the other hand, isn't paying attention, let alone impressed by his talent. His jokes weren't even landing with her, but they definitely were working on Eddie. He was laughing, eyes twinkling with every quip Steve made- he even reached out and shoved Steve's arm playfully.

Steve kept trying though. Even though his date was currently checking out another guy across the way. Even though she was chewing her gum loudly and checking out the fifth different guy of the night, not that Steve was counting, he was still going to put in an effort.

So he kept joking. He started talking about going pro in carnival basketball, and made up a whole backstory and life for himself. He ended up doubled over in laughter with Eddie, gasping and wiping his eyes as he described all 6 of his children that he would be raising after finding them in the lost & found.

Steve and Eddie were leaning over the booth, inches apart, their fingers brushing against each other as their laughter died down.

"So you won your choice of the giant prize, big boy, which one you want for your date?" Eddie asked, nodding up to the stuffed animals above them.

Steve laughed and looked around; his date was gone, "Which one is your favorite? I'll take that one.'

"This one" Eddie grinned, grabbing a huge purple cat. "Sorry about your date." He added with a half-frown, handing Steve the cat.

Steve took the cat and smiled as he looked into its giant, glittery eyes, giving it a squeeze before handing the stuffed animal back to Eddie with a wink. "I'm not. What time are you off?"
