Draco is an Orphan, Book 1

Summary:

Draco Malfoy's parents died in a horrific magic accident when he was 7. Who was stated to be Draco's next guardian? None other than his godfather, Severus Snape. With a different upbringing, how has Draco changed? How will the people around him change?

Notes:

I liked this idea sooo, I did it! The first year is really short cause Draco just minds his business... So sorry if the chapters are split up weirdly. Updates will be scheduled twice a week. Hopefully I'll be ready with second year by then

Chapter 1: Draco has a Nightmare

Chapter Text

Draco Malfoy awoke from a nightmare. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for him, but happened less frequently than before. He stared up at his ceiling, calming himself down. When that didn’t work, he grabbed his deer plush and squeezed it. Still, he couldn’t get the nightmare out of his head.

With a sigh, he slipped out of bed, the stuffed animal trailing behind him. He walked down the dark hallway. Smaller than most were in the Manor, but more comforting. Draco found the right door, creaking the handle down and pushing in.

His godfather, a light sleeper, stirred before sitting up. Noticing his godson approaching, he grabbed his wand and lit the candle kept on the bedside table.

“Draco,” Severus whispered in greeting, “A nightmare?”

The boy nodded in response, climbing on the bed. The man didn’t say anything more, pulling him into a hug.

“Tell me a story.”

“About what?”

“My mom, when she went to school,” Draco decided, laying down.

Severus considered, before starting. “Well, one time, her older sister thought it would be funny to curse her. A curse that would render her mute. Instead of going to the hospital wing, or the head of house, Narcissa adamantly decided to figure it out herself. You got her stubbornness,” Draco smiled, his eyes fluttering closed, “After a week, her sister was thinking of undoing the curse- but Narcissa revealed that she’d undone it three days ago already, speechless. Everyone was rather impressed, after all...”

Draco didn’t hear the rest, falling asleep contently, in his godfather’s arms, deer in his.
