Chapter Text
The six heroes stood around the walls of the room they had chosen to meet in. It was a nice house in an empty field, apparently the owners wouldn’t mind if it was borrowed for a few hours so long as they didn’t break anything. They made awkward eye contact as they all stood and waited for the one who had called this meeting.
Flash and Green Lantern were the first to hit it off. Realising they both were chronically online and going on about some trend they had seen and ‘should totally do together bro!’, whatever that meant. The two had become fast friends and soon sat beside each other at the table in the centre of the room. Green Lantern half draped over Flash’s shoulder as he tried to point out something on his phone. Both laughing as the device blared something about ‘calling the weed.’
Wonder Woman and Superman ended up being the next to start talking. He apparently was very interested in the stories of her homeland and how they were so similar to the mythos shared to this day. Wonder Woman was happy to regale the kryptonian on her people’s many deeds and stories. Gesturing with her hands animatedly as she described her time training in long range weaponry under Artemis, the actual god.
Martian Manhunter stood off to the side exchanging pleasantries with Aquaman. The two had apparently hit it off on discussing their struggles with acclimating to human customs and were now comparing the different holidays their people celebrated. Both stood up stiffly, backs to the ornate wallpaper as they exchanged brief words and nods.
“No dude I’m telling you, he’s not human. He’s like, a demon or something.” Everyone stopped their conversations to turn to Hal, who was waving his arms wide as he leant dangerously far back in his chair. Flash shook his head so fast it blurred before pointing his finger at the glowing green man.
“No way he’s a demon, or he wouldn’t spread his name. He’s a cryptid for something.” Green Lantern made a face at that and shrugged his shoulders. Clearly not believing but not starting a fight over it.
“And who might you be talking about?” Wonder Woman’s voice startled the two men who hadn’t noticed the sudden interest everyone held in their chat. Flash jumped and spun so fast it was like he was just suddenly facing another direction. Green Lantern's chair tipped back and fell but the man himself just floated in place.
“Ah well, Batman isn’t here so we thought we might discuss what we know about him. And GL said it was weird we were meeting here at night and yeah… forums say he’s Gotham come to life but we aren’t in Gotham so I dunno.” As Flash talked his voice became smaller and quieter, clearly embarrassed at having to share their little gossip session with the group. The visible parts of his face were nearly the same shade of red as his suit. Green Lantern suddenly snapped his fingers and pointed them at Flash.
“Oh dude, he’s totally a vampire.” He spun in the air until he was lying on his stomach and grinned. Flash had a look of concentration on his face as he attempted to think of an opposition.
“Maybe we shouldn’t argue about our fellow Hero’s possible race. Pretty insensitive considering most of us aren’t human.” Superman, the voice of reason, spoke.
“Oh no dude I’m totally human, just got a magic ring.”
“Oh yeah me too kind of, no ring just a massive city wide explosion.”
Superman turned to look at the other two people in the room. Martian manhunter shot him the most incredulous expression and he quickly turned his gaze towards the sea king.
“I am in fact Atlantean, so not human.”
Superman was just about to ask Flash what ‘city wide explosion’ he meant when the front door swung open. All six heroes turned to see the bat himself. It was strange seeing him standing with his back against the bright moon, like he was a spot of darkness that absorbed all light. White lensed eyes scanned the room slowly for what felt like hours until Superman managed to shake off his shock and speak up.
“Batman, I’m glad you could make it. Please join us.” He smiled politely from where he was sat, Wonder Woman also wearing the same expression. Martian Manhunter had a blank face whilst Aquaman and Flash looked intrigued. Green Lantern had attached himself to Flash’s shoulder and was gripping the suit so hard it was amazing it hadn’t ripped yet. Batman said nothing, continuing to survey the room for a few more uncomfortable minutes.
“What’re you waiting for Batsy, an invitation?” Green Lantern had the biggest grin on his face as Batman’s blank lenses turned to stare at him. He held the man’s stare for a few moments before stepping through the doorway and into the house. Then he stumbled. His arm gripped the doorway for a moment as Superman heard a pained breath leave him. Before anyone could say anything he had righted himself and walked into the room, taking the empty seat beside Superman and started his meeting. The idea of creating an organisation for heroes, a Justice league.
Throughout the entire thing, Green Lantern had a slightly apologetic look on his face. When Flash handed over his phone, notes app open, they started passing notes like school children.
‘You ok man?’
‘Yeah fine just, remember when I said he might be a vampire?’
‘Dude not that again, I don't want another disappointed look from Supes.’
‘Well what other entity experiences physical pain when they walk into a room, but weren’t specifically invited. For argument's sake.’
‘I hate that I can’t argue with that.’
‘Then don’t, help me gather evidence.’
The meeting soon ended, and the gathering of heroes agreed to work together for the future. Batman apparently already had a base all set out for them. In a mountain of all places. Flash and Green Lantern shot each other one last look as they were leaving. They would get down to the bottom of this, Vampire or not.
