Work Text:
The camp was set with the comfortable tent suited for three.
The fire was going with the food simmering on it, the smells heavenly, as this setting certainly was perfection to the hilt.
The calm evening, not top warm nor too cold, the darkening skies with the stars out, the nature around them getting ready for the nightly sleep.
Yes indeed, Ahsoka, Sabine and the Tooka, Murley, were out camping and in style too.
It was a peace offering from Ahsoka more than anything else. To spend some R and R out in nature. With her and Sabine having started mending fences and this opportunity to spend some time alone and to talk about things, well, there were high hopes for the trip for sure from them both.
The chow was finally ready, the three having settled by the campfire cozily.
Murley having gotten his treats first but of course, chowing down it all with gusto before settling down in the most perfect spot. The tooka purring contently with a full belly while observing the night butterflies just above the camp doing their ritualistic dance.
“Here! Eat it while it’s hot.”
Ahsoka offered the plate filled with chow to Sabine. A stew of sorts. something Ahsoka had prepared plenty times before while the two had camped out during the Rebellion.
“Thanks, smells, well, smells like it did before.”
Sabine smirked. It wasn’t the best of foods, true. But then again, it felt right, nostalgic even to have it now. And besides, when camping food always tasted good no matter what it was made of.
“Yeah, it should.” Ahsoka chuckled. “It’s the same ole recipe as before.”
Ahsoka tasted if herself, nodding gingerly. Sabine following her example. But something was different though.
“There is something of a taste I’m not familiar though.”
Ahsoka simply grinned at Sabine. The secret ingredient indeed!
“It’s the secret ingredient you’re tasting.”
“Oh? Since when?”
“Well, call it a bonus I tried at some point during my travels and decided it suited the stew.”
Ahsoka then pulled out the small flask and poured some of it to the two mugs she had ready for them to drink from. It wasn’t much, just a taster.
Sabine grinned as well. The secret ingredient she had not excepted for Ahsoka to have. But Sabine wasn’t complaining either as it added to the flavour rather nicely. Both in the stew and sipping it separately.
“Cheers!”
They fell into a comfortable silence while eating and having some of the secret ingredient while dwelling in the past for a moment as they did. Thoughts of the Rebellion, the memories of events and people past entering their thoughts. As this was all, familiar to them both.
“So, this is a great spot. How did you find this place?” Sabine asked finally, while eating the last bits from her plate after having seconds.
“I, well, heh, I crash landed here a few years back and thankfully it was this lovely spot I ended up in.” Ahsoka admitted, thinking back to the time she had been travelling alone before joining up forces with Huyang.
“Yeah? Well, guess we really have some catching up to do.” Sabine admitted then.
As the two having floated apart over well, guess those could be called misunderstandings of sorts. Both now knowing they really should have tried to talk things through out back then to better understand where the other was coming from.
After all, it was all about minor things in the end in the grand scheme of things as they knew now.
“We do indeed.” Ahsoka sighed and looked at Sabine. “That was the idea behind this little trip. For us two to, well, air things out as it were.”
“Yeah, I kinda figured.”
“So, you wanna talk now or just enjoy the moment for now?”
“I guess, I just, well, maybe talk a tad later. Right now, I am too full and guess a little tired too, as it is pretty here and the fresh air and all is getting to me.”
It was true. As they had had quite the long trip over to the planet. Then setting up camp and all, so it was natural to be a little tired.
“We’re in no hurry Sabine. We can spend as much time here as we need to.”
Sabine only nodded, seeing the smile on Ahsoka’s face. How relaxed Ahsoka finally was, which certainly was something reassuring to Sabine as well. Not to mention Murley deep in sleep between them, snoring away. Well, it was a picture perfect moment for sure.
And they had time, having already started on the road back to each other before coming to this place. But, there was a long way to go still and they were both willing to make the effort.
“Yeah, tomorrow then. As tonight, well, I too brought something with me.”
Sabine pulled out her own flask as well. Great minds and all, thinking alike it seemed.
“Is that…???”
“Yup, fresh from the brewery too.”
They both laughed out loud.
As this, brewery wasn’t exactly a legal one. Then again, who could blame people for trying to make a living and it was pretty popular especially among the former Rebels. The concoctions usually pretty heavy with alcohol. Much more so than the secret ingredient of Ahsoka’s. But the taste was great and the buzz certainly worth the while.
And it brought back a few good memories as well. Their former family around a Rebel camp back in the day, enjoying the brew while telling scary stories and singing songs around the warming fires.
“Gimme!”
Sabine did.
The two then clinking mugs again as they sat there, basking in the warm fire, enjoying the brew and each other’s company. Just, the three of them. Time for talking would come later.
Now, they could celebrate their reunion, the rekindling of whatever was happening between them.
