“You okay?” Aventurine asked gently, his voice laced with worry. He continued to rub soothing circles on Ratio’s back, feeling the subtle tremors still running through his mate’s body.
Ratio nodded, but his face was still pale, and he looked dazed. “I… I think the food we had for dinner must’ve been expired,” he mumbled, his voice sounding weak.
Aventurine’s brow furrowed, a skeptical smile tugging at his lips. “Honey, I ate the same thing, and I’m fine. Besides, if it were food poisoning, it would’ve hit you a lot sooner than now.”
Ratio winced, conceding the point with a tired nod. “Mmm… you’re probably right. Maybe it’s just a stomach bug.”
Aventurine chuckled softly, an idea dawning on him that he almost didn’t dare to hope for. Could it be that simple? The thought made him feel giddy, and he found himself studying Ratio with a new intensity, his gaze roaming over his mate’s features as he considered the possibility.
