Work Text:

In this world, where aliens from the galaxy invaded the earth, took away countless of lives, human beings were lost. With only selected humans remaining. There were two categories for reproduction. The typical process where it involves two human parents and the scientific process whereas the aliens create a human being, be it more effective as they gather the finest genetics to create the perfect mortal. It is an industry, a give and take. If not the difference in handling. The contrast between a loving family and a lonely laboratory with scientists. Of course, that is not always the case, but it more or less is aimed to create the same output.

A machine to sing: that is all they ever thought about the worthless human race. Just like Mizi, a worthless coward that couldn't do anything at all. It didn't start out like this—but in actuality, it had always been and it will always be this way. This was the life they've lived. This is the only life that they know.

Mizi has perservered in this life: waltzing in her own little world, safe and almost entirely ignorant of the terrors that lie outside of her school life once she received the grace of graduation. She was enrolled in a musical academy called "Anakt Garden", focused on improving her singing skills. After all, this was what the academy was made for—to train students into becoming full-fledged singers to compete in an unruly competition. One with underlying theme she had desperately hoped she was aware of sooner.

Mizi was lucky enough to receive a caring parent. She was given gifts and even celebrated her birthday. Although her parent spared her from the school and competition, she had foolishly begged her to let her join. She had thrown her safety away on a whim. Countless children would have killed to take her place, yet she had willingly left.

Humans once believed in god; that the whole universe revolved around earth. If something was not able to be solved by human strength, was solved by the will of God. Then, humanity left the earth. Religion was lost. People stopped believing in God.

Mizi participated in an opening activity with her peers; to humm a melody for the instructor to hear. Over the symphony of voices, a distinct voice stood out from the rest. A beautiful melody, indeed, but despite singing the same one as the rest, her delivery was unique.

After shuffling around the crowded room, she caught a peak. A short-framed girl with short black hair and piercing lavender eyes. Despite her doll-like appearance with her fair skin and big eyes, she looked devoid of life. She felt like a soul drained of its humanity. Mizi decided that she wanted uncover the complexities of this strange girl.

'She's an unusual one.'

She thought to herself, unaware that she was mindlessly staring at her. Despite her blunt words, she meant no disdain. It was intriguing to her.

_____

A month had passed and she learned that the girl's name was Sua. Observing the girl from afar, she discovered that Sua was fond of stargazing. Other than that, she had an elusive personality, rarely speaking with people unless it was necessary. Although it didn't seem like her reputation bothered her at all. She looked like the type who doesn't care about what other people think.

Sua is unmatched with Mizi; she only dreams of being able to have the same mindset. Truth be told, she seriously wanted to become her friend—if possible. She wanted Sua to break that shell and let her in.

Later in the day, she heard a familiar tune again. Mizi watched her from afar, the ravenette with a bright tone of voice, humming the melody from before but now with seemingly improptu lyrics.

"Oh, my Clematis. Hope bloomed from darkness nigh."

The mysterious girl held her note on the last word. As the other girl approached her, noticing the opening and realizing her chance, she added her own spin, surprising the ravenette by singing along.

"Oh, my Clematis."

Sua turned to look at the taller girl with pink hair and glasses who suddenly turned her solo into a duet, while Mizi continued.

"Stay forever by my side."

_____

Ever since then, the two were inseparable. Finding comfort in each other through the perils of the cruel place they were brought into. Unbeknownst to them, it was both of their downfalls. Hopelessly reliant on each other. They were two sides of the same coin. Mizi was the complete opposite of Sua. She started out in a lovely environment, becoming acquainted with people and growing fond of her alien parent, but for Sua, she was neglected—emotionally and physically, and but in some way, maybe that is what drew them to each other. Sua protected her, she was everything for Mizi. They had other companions such as Till and Ivan, but they were friends. Nothing in comparison to the divine being she shared her life with. As Mizi was the embodiment of innocence for Sua. The same case as Mizi, she was a shield for Sua. From the silent threat and doom that awaited them all.

'But if belief in god is human,'

They only had each other. No one else compared.

'If all I can do as a human is believe..'

They were each other's saviors. The reason for sanity.

'My god, my universe.'

Mizi's hazel eyes sparkled as they shone on stage, locked on Sua's violet ones; duetting for the competition. They were singing the same song they had written when they met, the soft composition of their voices perfectly encapsulating the perfect harmony. Aliens cheered as their contestants performed, racking up their scores. Mizi believed that they could both win. Since they're both been good, they would tie.

Sweat wasn't the only thing dripping on their bodies as the gunshot rung through their ears as her pupil's contracted, watching her partner suddenly fall to the ground with a thud and a pool of blood.

The girl's ignorance was a blessing and distraction for Sua. The girl had known the true nature of this competition, and she let it happen with the intention of sacrificing herself for her dear, becoming a trauma for her; for the girl who just discovered that this whole event was a death match.

"Oh my Clematis ..Hope bloomed from darkness nigh.."

Her knees buckled as she fell to the ground, the proximity of the gunshot splattering Sua's blood on Mizi, coating half of her face. She finished the duet with a bitter victory.

"Oh my Clematis.. Please stay by my side.."
