The livings take sex for granted. They know it’s a possibility, almost a certainty. Their world is made of sensations, smells, promises of fulfilment.
Kieren has barely known sex, declined in quick appropriations and in feverish hands. His eyes closed, trying to hold back the gasps. He tested it too little, too fast, with the anxiety of being discovered and the fear that sex - in the way he liked it - was wrong. He has scraped off the crust of an experience that is way more deep and complex.
And, yet, that it’s taken for granted.
