There was a cat sitting in the corner of the kitchen. It was staring at me. Black fur, and yellow eyes. Whose cat was it? I didn’t know, and it unnerved me.
I was never much for cats. Neither was the rest of my family. On its neck was a purple collar.
“Your name is Thunder?”
The cat meowed when I said its name. I walked over to it, and placed my hand on its head. So, so soft. My hands felt right at home petting the furry creature. Thunder purred as I stroked their soft fur.
“Who’s your owner Thunder?”
I hummed and picked up Thunder. Everyone was out of the house right now. Thunder and I wandered around, looking for clues.
“Come on, don’t you know something?”
Thunder meowed again, I guess not. Maybe they were as useless as I was. No cat fur, no litter boxes. After what felt like ages I sat down on the couch with Thunder in my lap. Hours passed and I was soon asleep.
The door opened and I stirred awake. My uncle was walking in, carrying a few bags of groceries. Thunder began meowing loudly at him. I looked at them and then at my uncle.
“There you are Thunder, I was going to lure you back inside with treats, but I guess Vee got you to come back huh?”
So that cat belonged to him. Thunder meowed as he tossed a treat. What a strange cat, for a strange man.
”You have a cat Dervish?”
He nodded and began stroking Thunder’s fur.
“She’s a stray I’ve been feeding. I think she likes me now.”
Thunder meowed loudly. She definitely liked him. I handed her over to Dervish and sat back down.
“Well, she sounds pretty thunderous to me.”
