Stede sets out all his and Ed’s favourite snacks on the coffee table, ready for his husband to return home. Ed’s had a hard week at work, coming back late each night exhausted, so Stede’s decided they’re going to have a movie night.
With the wine chilling in the fridge, snacks all laid out, and ‘The Breakfast Club’ set up on the tv, all he has to do now is wait for his lovely husband to return home.
It’s nearly 7pm by the time he finally hears Ed’s car pull up, soon followed by the sound of the front door slamming.
“Babe?” Ed calls out.
“In here, darling.”
Ed walks in, hair messy and a dejected look on his face. He immediately falls into Stede’s arms, a broken sob falling out of him, one that Stede guesses has been threatening to escape for a long time.
“It’s okay darling I’ve got you.” Stede comforts him, gently rubbing his husband’s back.
Ed lets it all go, crying even more until there’s nothing left. Stede comforts him through it, hoping that he can offer his love some solace.
When Ed finally stops crying he notices all his favourite snacks lined up on the coffee table and the film queued up on the tv.
“You did this for me?” Ed sniffles.
“I thought you deserved some relaxation darling, after such a hard week at work.”
“Thank you.” Ed sniffles again.
“Of course love, why don’t you go get changed and I’ll get the wine.”
“Sounds perfect.” Ed replies, giving Stede a kiss. “Thank you.” He whispers before heading upstairs.
When Ed returns, Stede’s happy to see he’s looking a little brighter than a few minutes ago, dressed in a hoodie and sweats ready for a cosy night in. He eagerly takes the offered glass of wine, enjoying a generous sip.
“You got all my favourites.” Ed says excitedly, going for a handful of popcorn that Stede had mixed with peanut m&ms.
“You deserve it dear, shall I press play?”
Stede turns his head just as Ed is launching himself at him for a kiss, accidentally sending the bowl of popcorn flying in the process.
“Ed what are you doing?” Stede laughs. “Oh what a mess.”
“I don’t care about the mess right now, I just need you.”
Stede feels giddy from Ed’s words even though they’re married, there’s something about being needed. So as Ed claims his lips he goes willingly, everything else forgotten.
